- Abstract
This study investigated the feasibility of composting organic wastes from hotels in Ha Long City, Vietnam. Organic waste (compostables) was separated from waste streams at three hotels over a one-week period. The separated wastes were then composted at a pilot plant that was established for the project. After sixty days of composting and maturing, about 60 kg of fine compost was produced from the input of 702 kg of compostables. Testing of physical and chemical characteristics of the compost product showed that tested properties except for levels of pathogenic micro-organisms and foreign matters met standards in Australia, North America, and Europe. Based on these findings, recommendations are made on waste separation at source, seasonal effects, and the implementation of composting in Ha Long City. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
