This research paper is focused on conflict management in the workplace. Today, conflict management is assumed one of the most important communication and social skills. Effective conflict management is required when dealing with a variety of workplace and team situations. The phenomenon of conflict, concerning its emotional implications, commonly affects employees in both, direct and indirect manners, as well as on the group dynamics of the entire team, or even the company, and it can shape the atmosphere, productivity, engagement, and personal health of employees. The theory states that one of the most important things that current managers and leaders in businesses should be doing is effective conflict management. We analyzed the structure of conflict management styles according to the Thomas-Kilmann theory on the research sample of 106 respondents from the Slovak business environment on different positions in the company hierarchy. This theory identified five crucial styles of conflict resolution: competing, collaborating, compromising, avoiding, and accommodating. The descriptive analysis was applied to describe the research sample and two hypotheses regarding gender and age were tested. Women significantly represent the accommodating style of conflict management. However, age was not confirmed as a significant variable in the use of conflict management styles in the workplace. The efficient conflict management affects relations among the team members, individual and team satisfaction, and also leadership on the group and organizational levels. Finally, knowledge of conflict management is needed to help understand and improve workplace relationships. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
