Digital service innovations have entered all areas of our daily life. They reach out to us via social platforms, mobiles and wearables, smart home applications, and other IoT devices. Oftentimes using personalized AI algorithms, such services aim at preselecting relevant information for us, supporting our decision-making, and making everyday lives easier. However, AI and digital platforms do not come without disadvantages, and they have recently been subject to negative headlines, lawsuits and legislative amendments. The accusation is that digital platforms and services can trigger mental stress, psychological disorders or force people into relationships of dependency. In order to objectivate the debate, this paper introduces a framework to examine and classify digital services in terms of their contribution or contrariness to human wellbeing. Based on the findings of humanistic and positive psychology, the framework gives guidance for the responsible innovation of digital services with the users' needs and wellbeing in mind.
