In this case series, we demonstrate how open-source software has been widely adopted as the primary health information system in many low- and middleincome countries, and for government-developed applications in high-income settings. We discuss the concept of Digital Global Goods and how the general approach of releasing software developed through public funding under open-source licences could improve the delivery of healthcare in all settings through increased transparency and collaboration as well as financial efficiency. There is broad agreement regarding fundamental digital health competencies that clinical health professionals should possess. However, there is still no clear way to observe and assess their application, during the actual work practices undertaken in clinical settings. The present paper tackles this competencypractice gap. It describes a novel health workforce research process to evolve competency statements into entrustable professional activities (EPAs) for using digital health and informatics in a clinical profession. It illustrates the use of the EPA-DH-CP framework in the context of physiotherapy. This framework offers a systematic approach for any clinical profession to develop EPAs that set out their expectation of how practitioners will demonstrate relevant digital health competencies. It can inform pre-clinical education and continuing professional development in digital health, and implementation of changes in scopes and standards of digital health clinical practice. We provide an outline of the Dolores chatbot designed to gather data and provide information to people living with chronic pain. Dolores is equipped with selective language levels to provide language appropriate responses for all ages. In the residential aged care sector medication management has been identified as a major area of concern contributing to poor outcomes and quality of life for residents. Monitoring medication management in residential aged care in Australia has been highly reliant on small, internal audits. The introduction of electronic medication administration systems provides new opportunities to establish improved methods for ongoing, timely and efficient monitoring of a range of medication indicators, made more meaningful by linking medication data with resident characteristics and outcomes. Benchmarking contemporary medication indicators provides a further opportunity for improvement and is most effective when indicator data are adjusted to take account of confounding factors, such as residents' characteristics and health conditions. Roundtables provide a structure for sharing and discussing indicator data in a trusted and supportive environment and encourage the identification of strategies which may be effective in improving medication management. Collaboration across disciplinary boundaries is vital to address the complex challenges and opportunities in Digital Health. We present findings and experiences of applying the principles of Team Science to a digital health research project called 'The Wearable Clinic'. Challenges faced were a lack of shared understanding of key terminology and concepts, and differences in publication cultures between disciplines. We also encountered more profound discrepancies, relating to definitions of "success" in a research project. The amount of research on the gathering and handling of healthcare data keeps growing. To support multi-center research, numerous institutions have sought to create a common data model (CDM). However, data quality issues continue to be a major obstacle in the development of CDM. To address these limitations, a data quality assessment system was created based on the representative data model OMOP CDM v5.3.1. Additionally, 2,433 advanced evaluation rules were created and incorporated into the system by mapping the rules of existing OMOP CDM quality assessment systems. The data quality of six hospitals was verified using the developed system and an overall error rate of 0.197% was confirmed. Observational Medical Outcome Partners - Common Data Model (OMOP-CDM) is an international standard model for standardizing electronic medical record data. However, unstructured data such as medical image data which is beyond the scope of standardization by the current OMOP-CDM is difficult to be used in multi-institutional collaborative research. Therefore, we developed the Radiology-CDM (R-CDM) which standardizes medical imaging data. As a proof of concept, 737,500 Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) data from two tertiary hospitals in South Korea is standardized in the form of R-CDM. The relationship between chronic disease and retinal thickness was analyzed by using the R-CDM. Central macular thickness and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness were significantly thinner in the patients with hypertension compared to the control cohort. Common syntax and data semantics are core components of healthcare interoperability standards. However, interoperable data exchange processes are also needed to enable the integration of existing systems between organizations. While solutions for healthcare delivery processes are available and have been widely adopted, support for processes targeting bio-medical research is limited. Our Data Sharing Framework creates a platform to implement research processes like cohort size estimation, reviews and approvals of research proposals, consent checks, record linkage, pseudonymization and data sharing across organizations. The described framework implements a distributed business process engine for executing BPMN 2.0 processes with synchronization and data exchange using FHIR R4 resources. To evaluate the feasibility of applying the Observational Medical Outcome Partnership (OMOP) Common Data Model (CDM) to databases of traditional East Asian medicine (TEAM), we composed a TEAM dataset and transformed it to the OMOP CDM. We found that some important TEAM information entities could not be transformed to the OMOP CDM (version 6.0) data fields. Higher education institutions in low- and middle-income countries are increasingly offering post-graduate degree programmes in health informatics. An analysis of accredited Master of Science in Health Informatics (MSc HI) programmes in the East African Community (EAC), a common higher education and labor zone, revealed wide variability in covered courses and competencies. In this paper, we describe the process undertaken to harmonize and establish common benchmarks for MSc HI for the EAC, in collaboration with the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA). After a multi-step process involving desk-reviews, benchmarking workshop with stakeholders, and quality assurance of benchmarks by IUCEA, the MSc HI benchmarks were finalized. These benchmarks outline the MSc HI degree programme goal, objectives, admission criteria, graduation requirements, and expected Learning Outcomes (ELOs). The ELOs are further translated into courses covering all identified skills and competencies. The benchmarks should facilitate mobility of students, faculty and labor, and improve program quality. Digital health information systems are quickly replacing paper systems worldwide. This study examined scholarly work reflecting how ethical considerations for health information systems (HISs) have evolved over time, with particular interest in the contributions from low- and middle-income country (LMIC) institutions. We systematically searched four research databases for terms related to HISs, ethics, and LMICs; and identified 601 relevant articles published from 1975 through 2019. The included publications were produced by 1,000 authors from more than 700 institutions. However, only 30 publications were co-authored by researchers from both an LMIC and a high-income country (HIC). Most publications pertained to data security. There is an acute need to address a wider array of HIS ethics topics, including those that may be unique to LMIC resource constraints. We recommend more collaborations between LMIC and HIC institutions to address the full range of HIS ethical concerns in LMICs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Electronic health records should efficiently store the information required for clinical decision-making and contain progress notes that reference this information. However, beyond the inclusion of subjective data, objective data, assessment, and plan framework, the content required to make progress notes useful for readers with diverse specialties has not been clarified. Moreover, the documentation burden that including additional content places on medical doctors (MDs) has not been determined. We conducted a questionnaire with 74 MDs, nurses, and other clinical professionals to determine whether they found progress notes with varying specific contents useful. In addition, the degree of the burden of writing progress notes that contain specific content was measured when 25 MDs were instructed to add specific content. Our results reveal that progress notes are more useful for clinical reasoning for readers other than MDs when more specific information is included; this can be achieved without increasing the documentation burden. The heterogeneity of electronic health records model is a major problem: it is necessary to gather data from various models for clinical research, but also for clinical decision support. The Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership - Common Data Model (OMOP-CDM) has emerged as a standard model for structuring health records populated from various other sources. This model is proposed as a relational database schema. However, in the field of decision support, formal ontologies are commonly used. In this paper, we propose a translation of OMOP-CDM into an ontology, and we explore the utility of the semantic web for structuring EHR in a clinical decision support perspective, and the use of the SPARQL language for querying health records. Data sharing and interoperability between jail systems and community health providers are critical for successful re-entry of incarcerated individuals into the mainstream community. Using a case study approach, we present an account of interoperability efforts between jail and community health systems in the County of Orange (California, USA), including the overall infrastructure comprising of the jail management system, jail health system, and the communuty health system. Purpose: This study aims to understand the present condition and issues in the nursing in wards to assist postoperative patients with gynecological cancer to find work after the discharge. Methods: Study design: Qualitative study. Participating institution: One hospital. Study participants: one ward nurse, one outpatient nurse, and one discharge support nurse introduced by the nurse administrator of the participating hospital. The participants were given an explanation of the study outline, and showed consent to participate in the study. We conducted interviews in a meeting room using an interview guide. The interview time was set to be within 40 minutes, considering the burden on the participants. This study was approved by the ethics review committee of the university the authors belong to. There is no conflict of interest to declare. Analysis: qualitative inductive analysis. Results: From the statements of the nurses, we extracted the following 9 categories: [Support for the individual patient], [Public relations activities inside and outside the hospital], [Lack of collaboration], [Shortage of hospital staff and a lack of sharing of information], [Patients do not want others to know they are suffering from the disease], [Lack of understanding in society for working patients with gynecological cancers], [Poor awareness of nurses about employment support], [Encouraging patients to improve their abilities] and [Engaging comprehensively with the patients through opportunities to discuss in teams]. Discussion: Nurses provided employment support based on their role in the ward they belong to. A previous study investigating cancer and employment of patients, identified the wish for the person that patients and families can consult with about employment to be a nurse [1]. Employment support by nurses is one of the needs that patients wish to have. Being able to provide and explain information to patients who need such information may be effective for patients to continue both treatment and employment. However, there were difficulties in being able to provide the employment support. For example, all three of the ward, outpatient, and discharge support nurses here were aware of the lack of collaboration among nurses, occupational health, and community health nurses. Considering this, it may be assumed that there is a shortage of hospital staff and a lack of sharing of information about where to report and who to consult with. A factor that makes team medicine difficult is the difficulty of sharing information, resulting in not being able to collect necessary information, and having to obtain information independently [2]. In the participating hospital nurses may not be able to play their roles fully due to the lack of information. As an issue for the future, it is necessary for nurses to become involved in patients, comprehensively by conducting discussion in teams so that information can be shared among medical professionals, patients, and other parties concerned. Another difficulty in providing employment support includes the situation that society does not fully understand the situation of patients with gynecological cancer who do not want it to be known that they suffer from the disease and who want to work. With the cultural background in Japan making patients wish to hide gynecological diseases unlike the case of other diseases. In particular, the patients were seeking opportunities for individual consultation and interaction with other patients who had similar experiences. A previous study has suggested utilizing self-help groups where patients exchange information, and that such groups may help patients obtain information about employment, deal with work-related problems by themselves, and continue employment [3]. As future issues, it is necessary for medical institutions to strengthen peer support, establish an information desk where patients can consult, and be provided with support that may improve the ability of patients to take part in activities to find or continue employment. Aim: This study aims to identify the characteristics of factors related to assertiveness of preceptors of novice nurses. Methods: An anonymous self-rating questionnaire survey was administered to 1292 preceptors working in participating city and university hospitals across Japan. The survey had question items from the Japanese version of the Rathus Assertiveness Schedule (J-RAS, 30 items), and included demographic details, evaluation of the novice nurses, instruction framework, self-evaluation of the preceptors, workplace environment, and a burnout inventory (Japanese version of the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey, 22 items). Bivariate analyses were conducted using assertiveness as the objective variable, and other surveyed items as explanatory variables. Selecting variables with p values smaller than 0.2 obtained in the bivariate analysis as explanatory variables, a multiple linear regression analysis was performed. For the analyses, we used a statistics analysis software package, SPSS Statistic 22. Approval to conduct the study was obtained from the Ethics Committee of University A. Results: Excluding nurse administrators, responses from 836 participants 79.4%) were analyzed. Results of the multiple regression analysis showed that the factor most strongly related to the improvement of assertiveness of preceptors were ‘making rapid decisions’. The characteristics of the factor were having ‘longer clinical experience’, thinking that ‘novice nurses are mentally weak’, ‘with poor skills’, the preceptors ‘themselves to be as valuable as others’, and ‘having confidence in their nursing in the present workplace’, and with the ‘Total burnout score significantly low’. Discussion: The characteristics of preceptors who evaluated themselves to be able to ‘make rapid decisions’, which is most strongly related to the improvement in the assertiveness of the preceptors, include longer clinical experience, seeing novice nurses as they are, and the preceptors evaluating themselves positively. Background: With the needs of patients and families who wish for quality, assuring, and safe medical care, and the diversity of medical tasks due to advances in and the complexity of medical care, medical practices has currently been changing from conventional models to team medical care in Japan. Because nurses are engaged in a wide range of tasks in medical settings, from medical checkup and treatment to the assistance of patients in the medical treatment they engage in, they are expected to collaborate with patients, physicians, and other medical staff as the “key person for team medical care” [1]. The roles that nurses are required to play in promoting team medical care are also extremely various, and it is important for team medical care to improve the awareness and skills of individual nurses to enable and effect collaboration. Previous studies reported that there are difficulties in collaboration between nurses and staff in other medical professions due to barriers including the differences in values specific to different medical professionals and the hierarchy comprising physicians [2, 3]. The authors previous study found that physicians give instructions only to nurses they trust and consider reliable, and do not share information with nurses they consider less reliable [4]. In this study, we define team collaboration as the cooperation between nurses and physicians in wards as the key persons, and aim to develop an original scale to evaluate ward team collaboration by examining the elements of the concept hypothesized as factors related to team collaboration by reviewing qualitative studies on team collaboration by the present authors and as reported in previous studies. Methods: We examined hypothesized elements of the concept from a previous study related to team collaboration reported by the authors [4] as well as from the clinical experience of the authors, and from existing scales and qualitative studies, created an item pool of 153 items, and developed an original scale to evaluate ward team collaboration by conducting brainstorming repeatedly with 20 to 25 nursing administration researchers. This paper explores the development and implementation of a clinical communication workshop (CCW) program for undergraduate nursing students at a multi-campus School of Nursing and Midwifery in an Australian university located in the culturally diverse region of Western Sydney. The Clinical Communication Workshops were conducted over three days each quarter in non-teaching periods of the semester. Although the workshops were available to all nursing students, they were specifically designed to improve skills in spoken and written English as an additional language (EAL) for students from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds. Developing skills in the confident and effective use of communication in English for nursing has been identified as critical to student success in their studies and on clinical placements. Nursing academics designed and delivered the CCW program in collaboration with academic literacy support staff qualified in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). First, the paper reviews the initial development of the CCW intervention based on findings from an exploratory study of students who were referred for support to develop communication skills for clinical placements. Second, there is reflection on the development of this cross-disciplinary collaboration to co-construct innovative and interactive workshops which enhanced the communication skills of students for conversations in healthcare and nurse-patient interactions using colloquialisms, nursing terminology and documentation in handover. Reflection on the findings from the CCW intervention and program development indicate that interdisciplinary collaboration can be effectively used to improve the confidence and competence of students in communication skills for nursing. Development of these skills is vital to patient-centred care and ensuring patient safety in healthcare environments. Third, a change management tool used retrospectively was applied to reflect on the cross-disciplinary collaboration and processes of embedding the language and literacy support into the School as a continuing clinical communication program. This research aims to provide insight into the GP experience with patientgenerated health data (PGHD) in a virtual care visit. Despite the prevalence of wearables, including smartwatches, the acceptability of generated data in primary care is understudied. The result of this study from mixed-method analysis showed the basic capabilities of PGHD to enhance clinical decision-making and positive impact on collaboration with the patient. High quality, long term follow-up care for cancer patients needs to be coordinated, comprehensive and tailored to the diverse needs of patients. Following a rapid review, a lack of study on interprofessional documentation (IPD) was identified, especially in professions other than physicians and nurses. Exploring the link in actual practice between interprofessional collaboration on health care teams and patient-centered care, this paper has a twofold purpose. First, we propose and develop the notion of joint emplotment to conceptualize the collaborative sensemaking work (Weick, Sutcliffe, & Obstfeld, 2005) observed in the acute care context, in particular in rapid-paced daily interprofessional team meetings. Joint emplotment refers to the means by which teams construct and negotiate shared understandings; that is, how they collectively make sense of the information and issues that are discussed during team meetings by narratively weaving them together to plan their future actions. Second, we empirically demonstrate the usefulness of this notion for understanding a core element of patient-centered care, namely how different perspectives of the patient's situation are made relevant and meaningful in team talk. We draw on illustrative data from a longitudinal naturalistic study of communication practices in daily interprofessional team meetings in acute care to show how perspective get established and negotiated in joint emplotment, and why this is important for patient-centeredness. Patient safety and reducing avoidable harm is a global Patient safety and reducing avoidable harm is a global challenge in healthcare. Over recent decades there has been a concerted effort through global, international and national actions to improve patient safety and to provide evidence through research to inform how these challenges can be addressed. In Scotland, the world leading Patient Safety Programme is a unique national initiative to improve the safety and reliability of health and social care and reduce harm. As part of patient safety approaches, one Scottish health board implemented a 'Collaborative' model approach to improve patient safety and reduce harm. This qualitative study was conducted with the purpose of gaining meaningful insight into the 'collaborative' to inform and shape further implementation of the safety improvement plan. Qualitative data were obtained through a range of planned interactive and focused discussions with a total of 36 staff participants. This included representation from the multidisciplinary team involved in the specialist areas of the collaborative who participated in either focused discussion groups or interviews. The high volume of qualitative data generated were transcribed and analysed by two experienced researchers using a systematic approach to thematic analysis. Three key themes (staff ownership; clarity of purpose, supporting infrastructur e) and 13 sub-themes emerged from the data which confirmed the key essential characteristics required for effectiveness of this 'collaborative' model for patient safety. This included effective leadership, allocated resources, communication and cross pollination of ideas, set timescale for outcomes, protected staff time, training and education, motivation and culture change. In December 2012 a norovirus infection outbreak occurred in the Orthopedic Surgery Ward of Hospital A in Japan. This study aims to establish details of coping behaviors used by nurses and physicians of the facility, and examine the issues involved in infection control as well as the ways employed to deal with the infections. Participants in this study were twenty-two nurses and four physicians who were working in the facility at the time the infection outbreak occurred, and who were still working there when the interviews were conducted. Interviews were conducted from January to April 2015, and the data from the interviews were analyzed using the "Trend Search 2008" text mining software. As a result of the analysis it was found that the nurses primarily communicated information by passing messages to the nurses who took over the duty at shift changes, but did not pass on the information to other staff or to the ward as a whole. The nurses clearly remembered that the ward was closed and it was a difficult experience, but did not remember details of the patients they were in charge of. The physicians clearly remembered individual patients they were in charge of, but they were not aware of the situation and state throughout the ward. The findings suggest that this difference is due to the differences in the occupational nature and sense of values of the staff involved. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to identify factors related to burnout among home visit nurses in Japan. A questionnaire survey of 1,423 home visit nurses. Items on the questionnaire were Individual factors, work environment, work-life balance, career commitment, communication skills, and burnout(MBIGS) score. Multiple regression analysis was performed using three subscales of burnout as objective variables. There were 559 valid responses (39.3%). A multiple regression analysis (stepwise) showed that the following factors were related to burnout. It was found that low career commitment, lack of work-life balance due to insufficient arrangements for an attractive working environment (difficulty in taking vacations), and poor communication skills are related to a higher likelihood of burnout among home visit nurses. It was also found that home visit nurses who feel the means of transportation to be a burden, who are 'poor at management including the schedule management (arrangement)', and who 'feel it a burden to visit terminally ill patients' have a higher likelihood of burnout. At the same time, home visit nurses who 'feel rewards at the nursing at patient homes' and who have the confidence to 'encourage patients (family) to use their abilities' have a lower likelihood of burnout. Collaborative learning approach is an effective teaching method to receive optimal achievement in knowledge and skills. The study was conducted as a descriptive design to determine Nurses' Perception of Their Work Environment and Intent to Leave. The population of the study was consisted of nurses working in public, university and private hospitals which have 500 beds and over in Ankara/Turkey. The sample was consisted of 312 nurses (with 90% power). Independent sample t test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Pearson correlation coefficient were used for data analysis. 89.7% of nurses were women, 65.5% of them has BSN, 64.1% of married and 51.9% less than 30 years of age. 62.2% of them working as nurse for 10 years or less, 61.5% of them working in this hospital for 5 years and less and 58.4% of them working in this wards at least 3 years. 92.3% of them work as service nurse, 64.7% of them cared for more than six patients per one shift. 86.6% of the nurses stated their salary was unsatisfactory and 59.3% of them thought that they should leave the job in the last one year. Nurses' PESNWİ total score was =2.3±0.4. There was significant relation found between PES-NWİ total score and income level, intention to leave and total working years of nurses. Additionally nurses stated stress because of workload (82.7%), dissatisfaction with salary (80.4%) and workload (73.1%) as factors for leaving the work. Nurses' work environment perception was found neither positive nor negative. Income level, total working years and intention to leave affect the nurses' work environment perception. The aims of this present study were to determine the learning needs of nurses and midwives prior to changes impacting on practice and later explore the effectiveness of CPD activities to prepare staff for these changes in practice. The initial phase used a mixed methods design and involved an online questionnaire (n=700) with eight follow up focused discussion groups (n-50). Descriptive and qualitative analysis were conducted. Formal and informal CPD activities were offered to address the knowledge, skills and experience needs identified. The follow-up qualitative phase involved six focused discussion groups (n=35). Clear benefits of CPD were reported across all staff groups. This included increased knowledge and skills, increased motivation and confidence, decreased stress at work, improved job satisfaction and working relationships with colleagues and the others. Findings also included the role of employers, CPD and individuals in supporting and updating practitioners with the relevant knowledge, skills and experiences necessary for them to provide safe and effective care in their everyday practice. The objective of this study was to reveal the challenges and solution strategies for public health nurses in promoting empowerment among community organization activities. The study was conducted a focus group interview. The interview participants were five public health nurses with experience in positions of oversight over other public health nurses. The challenges formed seven categories. Community organization activities are halted. They work very little with community organization activities. Young public health nurses lack the ability to empower residents. The public health nurses' activity system makes it difficult to run community organization activities. The solution was to practice activities that evolve from district diagnoses to district activities. It was also necessary to build activity systems that made it easy for organizations to develop community organization activities. Collaborative learning approach is an effective teaching method to receive optimal achievement in knowledge and skills. Since nursing is a profession that emphasizes multidisciplinary collaboration, collaborative learning approach has been commonly adopted in current nursing education to maximize students' learning and develop their collaborative attributes. It is important that learning attitudes shall be positive to reach benefits of collaborative learning. This study was to examine how learning attitudes of nursing undergraduate students in respond to collaborative learning approach. The preparation of nurses caring for patients with chronic conditions such as cancer remains a topical subject. Nursing curricula emphasizes the breadth of knowledge and caring skills required by nurses to suit all the key long term patient morbidities. Since the incidence of cancer is increasing and is a global problem nurses will come cross patients with cancer as a main or subsidiary condition and thus need an awareness of the care and needs of these patients. Currently, there is limited information on the preparation of pre-registered nursing students and little is known about the experiences of these students, especially during their initial exposure to cancer patients. A British study conducted in 2006 [2] produced several key themes: cancer appears as a wide reaching disease appearing in a variety of clinical areas, students felt scared of discussing cancer and they indicated personal experiences and support structures influenced their outlook on cancer and nursing these patients. This same study repeated ten years on indicates the student demographic is very different as is the attitude towards and of cancer care. The sample is also different (n=134 in 2003-2004 and n=73 in 2016-2017) however the differences may point to generational differences, general education or greater awareness or exposure to cancer as a chronic condition. Experiences of caring for cancer patients increased from 66% in 2003-4 to 75.34% in 2016-17. Similarly dramatic differences were observed in reported aspects such as confidence to care for cancer patients increased form 34% to 96%, learning most about cancer from caring for cancer patients (from 47% to 68%) and feeling supported by mentors to care for cancer patients (from 39% to 83%). The survey points to some noticeable differences in the reported attitudes and knowledge of cancer in the survey. Planned interviews may elucidate the issues and feelings but are yet to be completed. This paper reports on an action research study that aimed to investigate whether an online discussion board could provide feedback to a lecturer to cater for specific learning needs and improve student engagement and outcome in a first year undergraduate nursing unit delivered externally. And whether a reflective practice approach to content delivery based on student feedback could improve learning outcomes and student satisfaction. An online forum was used to identify students' learning needs, encourage collaboration, discussion of learning materials and create a learning community that is supportive of each other to enhance learning. A reflective practice approach was used to reflect upon student feedback and teaching practice that allowed modifying teaching materials and practice throughout the semester. At the end of week 10, students provided feedback on their learning experience that formed part of the qualitative data along with the researcher's reflective journal which were analyzed using thematic analysis. Descriptive statistics were used to compare student engagement with the School of Health average for the semester and grades between two semesters of the same unit. It was found that on average the student engagement with the unit was more than the average for the school of health and there was a marked improvement on student grade. Three themes emerge from the student feedback (sense of belonging, sense of satisfaction and sense of ownership). The themes that emerge from the researcher reflections were: lack of engagement/anxiety, developing trust and enjoyment with engagement. It was concluded that an online discussion forum could provide an educator the opportunity to identify students' learning needs and modify the educational materials and delivery according to the expressed needs. The paper discusses effective forms of in-class and out-of-class work from the students' and teacher's perspectives. The research is based on the author's 9 years personal experience of teaching literature at the Faculty of Foreign Languages (Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University, Russia). Methods of research include personal observation, quantitative and qualitative analyses as well as chi-square test employed to interpret questionnaire survey of students' needs and opinions on effective forms of organizing in-class and out-of-class work aimed at enhancing literary competence. Based on our previous studies of foreign literature dealing with person centered psychotherapy (PCP) in specific groups of clients and based on our own experience from working with clients with intellectual impairment, we were interested in the conditions of providing psychotherapy to clients with intellectual impairment within the person centered approach (PCA). The paradigms forming the system of care for intellectually impaired adults in the Czech Republic have brought us to several questions. The question of differences in the concept, process and the therapist - client relationship in psychotherapy for clients with intellectual impairment has become the most important one for our research. Thus, the main goal of our research was the effort to find out and describe in what way and in what areas the presence of an intellectually impaired client impacts the psychotherapeutic session, in particular within the PCA context. Over two years, we have been gathering and evaluating data relating to the basic conditions of therapeutic sessions with a group of intellectually impaired persons. In order to unify the variables affecting the respondent sample as well as the process of examining and the research itself, we have chosen the following conditions. The group of clients and respondents at the same time was composed of 10 adults with intellectual impairment of light to medium degree. All of the clients were living in families and using the day care services. In order to simplify the organization of therapeutic sessions, we chose one particular day care. The control sample included data from sessions with two intellectually impaired clients attending individual form of psychotherapy. The data collected contained information of organizational, process and content nature, if concerning the specification of processes going on in the group or between the therapist and client in individual therapy. A part of the data processed also contained the records of reflexions and self-reflections of the therapist and records of supervisions provided to the on-going therapeutic sessions. The data gathered were processed gradually using the method of grounded theory. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between teachers' basic needs satisfaction, self-efficacy and burnout. Questionnaires measuring satisfaction of the need for autonomy, competence and relatedness, teacher self-efficacy, emotional exhaustion, personal accomplishment and depersonalization were completed by 220 Transylvanian Hungarian and Hungarian (Hungary) high school teachers. Results show significant correlations between perceived need satisfaction and all three aspects of teacher burnout. Demographic factors (e.g. gender, school profile) were in significant relationship with satisfaction of the need for autonomy and need for competence and also depersonalization. Satisfaction of the basic needs predicted burnout components. Implications for further research and teacher burnout prevention and intervention are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Clinical education is an important part of nursing education as theoretical parts. The design of this education depends on the course objectives as well as nursing education' objectives. To be able to organize effective and efficient clinical education nursing schools needs to collaborate with health care institutions from beginning to the end of the programme. This collaboration should include organization of basic necessities of clinical education such as timetable, organization of appropriate clinical wards, physical environment, selection of health care professional for working with students, etc. When organization and collaborations between this two institutions failed then quality of clinical education decrease. Difficulties in less chance to work with professionals, not able to have enough materials, not able to reach out for help, facing the patients' safety issues, etc. In order to ensure mutual cooperation, planning of clinical education should start from the beginning to the end of the programme. The article investigates the formation of social innovation through idea development conversations between professionals from different organizations. The study was based on a three-year project set up to create social innovations aimed at solving social problem in Finnish public healthcare domain. It introduces the concepts underlining theoretical model that describes the relationship between idea development and ideas based on a body of research that can drive organizational change. It discusses the concept of genre that mediates relationship between conversations and talk and the conversational attention in idea development conversations. Analysis of the conversations produce insight concerning micro-level processes such as organizations' strategic directions.

We present evidence on the current state of utilizing co-design approaches involving older adults in developing electronic healthcare tools (EHTs). Research gaps were identified in defining the stages, involvement processes, and levels of participation using existing theoretical frameworks. A Systems Medicine Approach to Stratification of Cancer Recurrence (SMART-CARE) establishes mass spectrometry-based systems medicine technologies and data analysis pipelines employing expertise of the multiple partners from Heidelberg biomedical campus. The article presents a study which describes a dialectic tension during pharmacists' interactions with physicians. The study was conducted through 28 in-depth interviews with student pharmacists and pharmacy preceptors in northeastern U.S. Results reveal that pharmacists expressed concerns on the need to respect physicians' authority and the demonstration of their value.

Several studies in recent years have demonstrated the relationship between the structure of interactions between people and the impact that this has on the achievement of goals. However, in the field of health systems this is an issue still to be studied. Chronic care programs in developed countries seek greater integration and communication between health professionals to improve health outcomes. But more empirical evidence is needed to assess the degree of integration and how the information influences those who are involved in these programs. This paper analyzes the way in which health workers interact at the primary and secondary care interface, based on integrated care design in a program of chronic care in New Zealand. The frequency, quality and perceived value of the ties between general practitioners, practices nurses, medical specialists and specialist nurses are used as explanatory variables in graphical models which take a social network analysis approach. The article discusses the interpersonal effects of Psychological Capital (PsyCap) and its organizational implications. The author describes the four main components of PsyCap as being hope, self-efficacy, resilience and optimism and then analyzes, using status characteristics theory, the possible effect they may have on third parties such as coworkers. The study concludes that PsyCap does in fact have a measurable effect on third parties in the workplace and that the findings create new areas of inquiry for future research.
