This paper presents a case study on how 5 years old children learned basics of programming by playing with algorithms. Class, group, and mobile game play activities were used to teach algorithm by analysing the problem, designing and implementing the algorithm, and reflecting and evaluating the process. 25 children who attended the case study were observed and assessed at the end of each module. The results of the study showed that children at the age of 5 learned sequencing, conditional and loop statements successfully. However, more guidance was needed for the loop statement. Our in-class observations showed that all children enjoyed playing algorithms on iPad. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
