Abstract

Magnetically guided liposomes (158±32 nm diameter) loaded with cytostatic drug rubomycin were produced using optimized procedure of hydration of thin phospholipid film. Magnetite nanoparticles (7.3±1.2 nm diameter) serving as the magnetic phase of the liposomes were produced using the polyol method. The liposomes were stable, with a shelf life of several weeks. Abstract

We suggest that an additional spiral density wave can exist in the inner parts of the cool accretion disk, where gas-dynamical perturbations are negligible. This spiral wave is due to the retrograde precession of the streamlines in the binary system. The results of a three-dimensional gas-dynamical simulation have shown that a considerable increase in the accretion rate (by an order of magnitude) is associated with the formation of the “precessional” spiral wave. Abstract

2D modeling of gas flow structure in a binary system using the modified model on a fine grid has been carried out for the parameters of the classical symbiotic star Z And. The calculations have confirmed the mechanism of quiescent to active state change as a consequence of the transition from the disk accretion to the accretion from the flow proposed in our previous works. The simulations of the flow structure for the active state of the system have been also carried out. The thermonuclear runaway on the accretor has been modeled by the pressure jump on the accretor’s surface. It has been shown that the introduction of the pressure jump leads to the formation of the structure of two shocks and the contact discontinuity in the space between components of the system. The modeled changes of parameters caused by the formation of these shocks are found to be in agreement with the observed brightness changes. © 2005 American Institute of Physics [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The existence of a spiral-vortex structure is revealed by a numerical simulation of the dynamics of an accretion disk in close binary stars. This structure is a density wave containing a one-armed spiral and an anticyclonic vortex with the center at a corotation radius, where the azimuthal phase velocity of the wave coincides with the angular rotation velocity of the disk. The formation of the structure is caused by an over-reflection instability rather than the tidal influence of a companion star. Similar instability generates the observed one-armed “mini-spiral” in the innermost central part of the Galaxy located inside 1.5 pc. The over-reflection instability results in a turbulence of the accretion disk. A value of turbulent viscosity coefficient is in accordance with both, the value of a numerical viscosity in presented calculations, and the results of observations. The period of the density wave rotation is in agreement with the typical periods of light curve variations observed in cataclysmic binary stars. © 2004 American Institute of Physics [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
