Online education should foster a growth mindset to promote active mobile learning in graduate education. This proposal describes how the author has used a growth mindset to deliver his online graduate educational technology course in a midwestern public university in the United States in an eight-week course in fall 2023. The author with over 20 years experiences of online instruction will share how he has used several deliberate and structured practices to properly foster a growth mindset to engage and challenge learners to maximize mobile instruction and learning in graduate students in education. Students with learning disabilities/difficulties in mathematics often apply ineffective procedures to solve word problems. Given that current mathematics curriculum standards emphasize conceptual understanding in problem solving as well as higher-order thinking and reasoning, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of a model-based problem-solving (MBPS) intervention program on elementary students' word problem-solving performance through analyzing the error patterns. Results indicate that after the MBPS intervention, participants significantly improved their problem-solving performance and made less errors on solving problems across a range of problem situations. Implications of the study will be discussed in the context of National Council of Teachers of Mathematics' calling for teaching big ideas to help students develop a deep understanding of mathematics knowledge. This study investigated the relationship between non-cognitive factors (mathematics anxiety, Emotional Intelligence, and mathematics self-concept) and mathematics performance in students with and without Mathematics Learning Disability (MLD). Participants were 340 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students from a public elementary school. Results showed that students with MLD had significantly lower mathematics performance compared to their peers. Mathematics anxiety was found to have a negative impact on mathematics performance among students without MLD. While low Emotional Intelligence scores were significant predictors of lower math performance for students with and without MLD. Additionally, mathematics self-concept mediated the relationship between mathematics anxiety and mathematics performance. Preservice teachers (PSTs) are expected to possess a relational understanding (i.e., knowing how to do and why) of mathematics for ambitious instruction. This study aimed to shed some light on the possibilities of supporting PSTs' development of relational understanding of fractions through engaging them in writing collective argumentation. Drawing data from a larger project; we explored the development of a PST's understanding of fractions through the engagement of collective argumentation. The results indicated that the PST's relational understanding of fractions developed from both structural and content perspectives. Some educational implications for teacher education are discussed. This study aimed to build a model to detect the factors to enhance student engagement and learning development in mobile learning during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Data from a total of 400 junior-high-school students were collected in China in the fall semester of 2020, and a large proportion of students preferred accessing their study with cellphones (67.0%) than with computers (11.8%), laptops (11.3%) or pads (10.0%). Exploratory factor analysis and structural equation modeling (SEM) were used for data analysis. The fitness of the items for each scale of the student engagement and learning development indicated a sufficient fit (X[superscript 2][subscript (19)] = 41.252, GIF = 0.974, AGFI = 0.951, CFI = 0.986, RMSEA = 0.054, NNFI = 0.979, IFI = 0.986). The results of SEM analysis show that emotional engagement is the most important factor (r[superscript 2] = 0.859) in the model, and student engagement has a significant positive impact on learning development in mobile learning. The findings of this study provide a good reference for enhancing student engagement or fostering students' learning development in mobile learning. [For the full proceedings, see ED639391.]

The purpose of this study was to investigate the sources of Chinese learning anxiety among Chinese learners in Vietnam and the strategies and methods used to cope with anxiety. Based on the findings, we suggest effective strategies to relieve learners' learning anxiety caused by different anxiety-inducing situations. The results of this study showed that (1) seven factors, namely learners' own anxiety, teachers, peers, the characteristics of the Chinese language itself, fear of making mistakes, test anxiety and the learning environment, were the main causes of Chinese learners' anxiety. (2) When Chinese learners face anxiety, they try to cope with it through independent learning and seeking assistance from teachers. In addition, because Chinese is a challenging language, they also constantly adjust their feelings to face the learning tasks, strengthen their motivation to overcome anxiety, and increase their self-confidence in learning Chinese through repeated practice. This study examines the relationship between English language proficiency outcomes and the use of a Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) tool that is designed to strengthen the academic English and oral proficiency skills of young English Learners (ELs). We compare scores on a standardized English language proficiency assessment for 2,034 ELs from kindergarten through Grade 5 in the US who either used the CALL tool during the 2020-2021 academic school year (n=1,478) or did not (n=556). Descriptive analyses show larger scores for students who used the program than those who did not, and this was seen across student demographic subgroups. Statistical analyses reveal that this difference is significant even when accounting for student demographics and enrolled school and that greater program use is related to higher proficiency scores. The largest effects are seen for oral proficiency scores. The study raises implications for use of CALL tools in contexts where English is the language of education.
