Indonesian society spends more than two hours in average per day using smartphone. Covid-19 pandemic increases its duration. Continued smartphone use may affect health. It is related to blue light radiation exposure produced by smartphone Light Emitting Diode (LED) screens. Although it looks like white light, the light released by LED has a wavelength that belongs to the category of blue light. Two common proposals for reducing the exposure are diminish unnecessary high-intensity light at night and attenuate the short wavelength spectrum components. However, still many users who are unaware that their smartphone has a blue light filter feature. This paper studies built-in blue light filter uses for reducing LED based smartphone screen light intensity. Visually, when the filter is activated, the screen will appear yellowish. Screen light intensities were measured using lux meter, either when filter enabled or disabled. From reduction calculation results, the filter gives up to 39% reduction, depends on screen and filter technology. Resumed from studies, blue light filtering can be beneficial in terms of increase sleep quality, maintain good academic performance and keep eye health. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
