Abstract

A report from the first Historians' Congress of Latvia, held in Riga, Latvia on September 16 and 17, 2011 is presented. The goal of this meeting was to determine research priorities for historical scientists working in Latvia, as well as presenting projects on Latvian history, and identifying the importance of history for Latvian national identity. The need for digitization of historical sources is discussed, as are the lingering effects of Soviet occupation, and the need for increased funds.
