The principal purpose of the study is to identify the differences in components in the Municipal Waste (MW) based on income levels and different particle sizes; MW survey goal is to propose future strategies for sustainable solid waste management. We performed physical characterization on wet waste generated in Tangier's city, following the MODECOM; Method of household waste recommended by the French Environmental Agency ADEME. The sampling protocol aims to separate three different size fractions, varying from 150 to 25 mm, and 13 categories of MW. Total waste weights of 400 kg were collected from containers of four habitat types spatially distributed at three different socioeconomic levels. The results indicate that the putrescible fraction represents the big part, about 53 percent, followed by the recoverable/recyclable fraction (Plastic, glass, paper/cardboard, and metals), about 23 percent. The installation of composting plants for the organic matter, and sorting centers for recycling activities are the most efficient segment of solid waste management solutions in the region. This research mainly focuses on the cutlery recycling center of the second canteen of zhuhai college of Beijing institute of technology. The cutlery accumulation problem resulted from the large flow of people and the operators' failure to take standard operation during the peak period. Moving towards a circular economy requires well-functioning recycling systems but also the implementation of effective product-life cycle extension schemes such as reuse, repair or refurbishment. A web-based analysis of the websites dedicated to informing the citizen about the private delivery of recyclables to the local recyclables collection centre (recycling centre) was conducted. All cities in Germany with a population of more than 100,000 inhabitants were considered (80 cities in total). Clarity of information regarding the types of materials which can be delivered by the private household to the recycling centre was assessed. Furthermore, it was analysed whether the website pro-actively encouraged higher forms of circular economy practices such as re-use and repair practices, which according to the waste management hierarchy are options of priority compared to recycling because they keep the materials at higher value in the economy. Most websites, namely 96%, contained detailed information about the materials which can be delivered by the citizen to the recycling centre. Around 10% of websites also informed in at least one language other than German, a valuable service to individuals with a background of migration. However, most websites missed the opportunity to point out the existence of alternatives to discarding valuable items as waste at the recycling centre. 43% of websites provided information about alternatives to discarding still functional products, such as links to services to donate such items to charity organisations. 19% of websites included information about RepairCafes or other local repair initiatives, thus pro-actively informing the visitor of the website about this option. The results of the study show that the German recycling centre websites fulfil their main purpose of informing the citizen whether a specific item can be delivered to the site, but the websites largely miss the opportunity to pro-actively encourage circular economy practices which sit at higher levels of the waste management hierarchy [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Scheduled waste in West Malaysia is handled by Concession Company and is stored and then is incinerated. It is known that incineration process may result in naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM) to be concentrated. In this study we have measured three samples consist of by-product from the operation process such as slag, filter cake and fly ash. Other various environmental media such as air, surface water, groundwater and soil within and around the plant have also been analysed for their radioactivity levels. The concentration of Ra-226, Ac-228 and K-40 in slag are 0.062 Bq/g, 0.016 Bq/g and 0.19 Bq/g respectively. The total activity (Raeq) in slag is 99.5 Bq/kg. The concentration in fly ash is 0.032 Bq/g, 0.16 Bq/g and 0.34 Bq/g for Ra-226, Ac-228 and K-40 respectively resulting in Raeq of 287.0 Bq/kg. For filter cake, the concentration is 0.13 Bq/g, 0.031 Bq/g and 0.33 Bq/g for Ra-226, Ac-228 and K-40 respectively resulting in Raeq of 199.7 Bq/kg. The external radiation level ranges from 0.08 μSv/h (Administrative building) to 0.35 μSv/h (TENORM storage area). The concentration level of radon and thoron progeny varies from 0.0001 to 0.0016 WL and 0.0006 WL to 0.002 WL respectively. For soil samples, the activity ranges from 0.11 Bq/g to 0.29 Bq/g, 0.06 Bq/g to 0.18 Bq/g and 0.065 Bq/g to 0.38 Bq/g for Ra-226, Ac-228 and K-40 respectively. While activity in water, except for a trace of K-40, it is non-detectable. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
