The article discusses a study which examined the preparation and properties of self-cleaning polyethylene terephthalate (PET) fabric with binary structure. It mentions that conventional method to improve the durability of fabrics involves cross linking of the coating layer and establishing covalent bonding between the coating and substrate. It informs that in the study polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), silica nanoparticles and fluorinated alkyl silane (FAS) materials with superhydrophobic coating fabrics are used. The study found that a cross linked elastomeric thin coating possessing a nanocomposite structure with a rough and low free-energy surface can endow fabrics with a highly durable superhydrophobic surface.
