In this paper, a detail electromagnetic and thermal calculation of a 15kW-660VAC synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM) SRM frame size 132mm- efficiency class IE2 are presented. The design of the machines was carried out in based on the use of finite element modeling of the magnetic field. Static and dynamic simulation of the main characteristics of the synchronous reluctance electric motor powered by electric network and frequency inverter, is carried out in analytical program. This paper reviews state-of-the-art loss-minimizing control strategies for synchronous reluctance motors. Methods can be categorized as loss-model controllers (LMCs) and search controllers (SCs). For LMCs, different loss models and the corresponding optimal solutions are summarized. The effects of the core losses and magnetic saturation on the optimal stator current are investigated; magnetic saturation is a more important factor than the core losses. For SCs, different search algorithms are presented and compared. The SCs are evaluated based on their convergence speed, parameter sensitivity, accuracy, and the torque ripple caused by the search process. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

To reduce the cost of speed sensor of the bearingless synchronous reluctance motor and improve its practicability, a novel rotor speed estimation scheme using fluctuating high frequency voltage signal injection method is proposed. Based on motor space-saliency effect, the rotor speed can be observed simultaneously by injecting fluctuating high frequency voltage signal into torque winding. The simulation system is built by Matlab simulation software, Simulation results demonstrates that proposed method is capable of precisely estimating rotor position/speed, the bearingless synchronous reluctance motor can achieve stable sensorless suspension operation, and has good dynamic and static performance. A bearingless synchronous reluctance motor (BSRM) is a multivariable, strong-coupled, complicated nonlinear system. The decoupling control of electromagnetic torque and radial suspension forces and between the two radial forces in x-and y-axes is the key technology of the stable operation for the BSRM. In the paper, the principle of radial suspension forces for the BSRM is expounded, and then the mathematical models of radial suspension force subsystem and torque subsystem are set up. A control system based on differential geometry theory is designed. The control system is simulated with Matlab/Simulink software. Simulation results show that the rotor can be suspended steadily, the control strategy can realize decoupling control among torque and radial suspension forces, and the control system has good dynamic and static performance. A high performance 55kW (peak) ferrite-based permanent magnet-assisted synchronous reluctance motor has been designed for an electric vehicle application. The design steps are outlined. Ferrite magnets have been chosen over conventional NdFeB due to cost issues. It is shown by finite element analysis that even under peak load conditions the ferrite magnets are safe from irreversible demagnetization. Key performance indicators for the motor are listed for the entire speed range. It is shown that a design of a high power density machine is possible even in the absence of NdFeB magnet. This paper deals with the modeling of the magnetic saturation in synchronous reluctance motors (SyRMs). The saturation is modeled by means of analytical expressions, which can be easily embedded in dynamic equivalent-circuit models. A modified power function — proposed in this paper — can take into account the cross saturation between the orthogonal windings, it is physically consistent, and the number of its parameters is small. The function can be used in real-time control applications and in computer simulations. The model fits well to the experimentally measured inductances of a 6.7-kW SyRM. As an application example, the proposed saturation model was implemented in a full-order observer of a motion-sensorless drive, and experimental results are shown. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

In this paper the electromagnetic torque and the square of the stator flux magnitude control using second order sliding mode controller (2-SMC) of a synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM), is proposed. In order to warranty the stator flux and electromagnetic torque to track its reference signal exactingly, the electromagnetic torque sliding mode variable and stator flux sliding mode variable were selected separately. Designed super twisting controller permits to decrease chattering that is inherent in first order sliding mode control and to improve accuracy. Also the upper band of parameters uncertainties, are calculated to serve the stability of the total system. Also, an online adaptive loss minimization controller (ALMC) for SynRM drives is introduced. The ALMC provides a novel pattern of change in stator flux magnitude to reach a minimum motor input power at any operating state.
