The article presents information on the symposium, "Contemporary Issues for Black Artists," held in Tryon, North Carolina on September 7, 1985. Panel moderator Laura Lieberman cited that the idea for a black aesthetic is an example of a racist attitude, while Beverly Buchanan shared that her first award as an artist was a gold star for coloring people brown during a school art contest. Wadsworth Jarrell said that marketing one's art in different establishments becomes an issue when the artist is African-American.
