Machine learning is a software tool that allows information present in databases to be converted into intelligent decisions based on data and not on experience or feelings. This work presents a review of the algorithms used in the classification of student performance present in the database of the national technical university, specifically in the software engineering career. Information classification analysis using machine learning algorithm has become a modern and powerful instrument, which could help academic institutions improve retention and performance rate of courses by students and with this obtain a more general view of student performance before starting the course based on information from other courses and general student variables in order to reduce the risk of failure. The main objective of this work is to describe the variables used by the National Technical University and the application of different automated learning algorithms in order to obtain the metrics that allow demonstrating the best algorithm among those studied. Finally, the article concludes with a classification algorithm that provides an accuracy of around 80% to 82% that can be replicated in other university institutions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This book presents the five national prizewinning papers in the twenty-third copyright law symposium conducted by the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP). Titles of the papers are "The USSR Joins the Universal Copyright Convention" (first prize), "Copyright Misuse: Thirty Years Waiting for the Other Shoe" (second prize), "The Fine Artist's Right to the Reproduction of His Original Work" (third prize), "Simultaneous Copyright and Patent Protection" (fourth prize), and "Federal Preemption in the Field of Intellectual Creations--An End to the Common Law Copyright" (fifth prize). Appendixes list the judges for all twenty-three competitions, the papers that appeared in the preceding twenty-two competitions, and the law schools that contributed papers to the previous symposia. This is one of several papers presented at a Federal Trade Commission Symposium on Media Concentration. A statement by the Authors Guild, it examines the merger-takeover trend in book publishing. The Authors Guild feels that the merger trend in book publishing has passed beyond the warning line drawn by the antimerger clause of the Clayton Act, Section 7; threatens competition in the literary market place and the survival of a structure composed of numerous independent publishing companies; threatens the individual author's bargaining power, income, and opportunities to be published; and endangers the uninhibited marketplace of ideas guaranteed by the First Amendment. The supplemental memorandum explores the proposed acquisition of the Book-of-the-Month-Club by the Time, Inc./Little, Brown publishing complex. Workers in distributed organizations must rely on virtual work arrangements, the lack of physical cues, common ground and face-to-face interaction has the potential to hinder communication and inhibit knowledge sharing. In turn, large multinational organizations often rely on transactive memory systems as a means of sharing knowledge and helping employees to accomplish day-today tasks. Prior research demonstrates that new information communication technology facilitates the development of transactive memory systems, but the connection between transactive memory and virtual work arrangements is less studied. This article explores how dimensions of virtual work impact transactive memory systems, with a specific focus on the use of information communication technology. Data were collected from a large multinational organization that provides technology consulting. Findings from this study demonstrate a clear relationship between the formation of transactive memory systems and the degree of geographic dispersion of employees. Moreover, the formation of transactive memory systems is negatively impacted by the diversity of job functions represented on a given team. The use of internal communication technology plays positive role in influencing organizational memory when teams are geographically and functionally diverse. The results from this research provide insight into how organizations can better utilize transactive memory systems in virtual work arrangements in order to improve effectiveness.
