Sustainable Supply Chain Management concerns with simultaneously improving social, economic and environmental performance through supply chain management practices. Sustainable practices in supply chains include reducing waste and emissions, using renewable energy, sourcing materials from sustainable sources, and promoting fair labor practices. Once practiced, this will lead to sustainable supply chains. Rembang Regency is the area with the largest capture fisheries production and production value in Central Java, Indonesia. Currently Rembang Regency capture fisheries face various challenges on the economic performance of its fishermen, environment issue at its both fish auction site and fishing water as well as its fishermen social performance, therefore it is important to improve its capture fisheries supply chain management to achieve their supply chain sustainability. In depth interview was carried out with some fishermen and stakeholders in order to identify the root cause of their sustainable supply chain. The analysis result indicates that capture fisheries stakeholders have to make some changes in order to achieve the triple bottom line of their sustainable supply chain. Economic Performance should be improved from the auction payment lead time procedures. Whilst the environment performance should be improved through the improvements to the handling of the catch before it is brought to the auction site. Furthermore, waste management at capture waters locations needs to be a concern of the local fisheries service policy. Social performance improvement should be done by improving its local auction procedure policies. Active participation from the stakeholders is one of the major improvement success factor. Environmental friendliness, energy efficiency and sustainability are very important issues in all aspects of human lives. This is particularly true for shipping, including all its modes like long-distance, short-sea and inland shipping, where environmental regulations have become very strict in the last decade. On the one hand, fishing vessels are slightly out of these regulations, but on the other hand greening the fishing fleets is highly promoted by the European Union funding bodies as well as by the local authorities, while at the same time fishing vessels are rather aged with low energyefficient fossil fuel-based power systems. This paper illustrates aims, activities and current outcomes of a network of scientists and fishery cooperatives oriented to improve environmental friendliness of fishing vessels in the Adriatic Sea. In that process, an extensive fuel consumption measurement campaign involving 10 fishing vessels (9 purse seiners and 1 trawler) is being conducted and is offering an insight into emissions of these vessels and their relation to the operative profile and benefit for the society expressed in amounts and type of the caught fish. Russia is one of the top five countries for the extraction of aquatic bioresources. Although the contribution of fishing to the gross value added is insignificant, no more than 0.3% of the national level, for residents of the coastal regions of the country, the effective use of aquatic bioresources determines the level and quality of their life, guaranteeing earnings, supporting the traditional way of life. A comparative analysis of technical efficiency in 14 Russian coastal regions was carried out in order to identify the most effective fishing practices for the first time. The selected regions account for 94 % of the total harvesting of aquatic bioresources and 98 % of the shipped product (volume of work performed by fishery) of the country. The study used the data envelopment analysis (DEA) method. The choice of this method is due to the fact that it does not require the parametric specification of the production function and allows to use indicators with different units of measurement. Production value of catch by each region in 2016 is selected as the output variable; while depreciation of fixed assets and quantity of fishery workers used by each region in 2016 are chosen as the two input variables. The average level of technical efficiency of fishing in the country was 0.6, so there is a reserve in improving the use of resources by 40%. In seven regions the level of technical efficiency is below average and in four regions it is above average. The analysis showed that two regions use resources the most efficiently: the Kamchatka Region, the Magadan Region. There is no correlation found between the level of technical efficiency and the capture level. To achieve the maximum level of fishing efficiency, the following directions are recommended. The number of employees should be reduced in six regions. In all inefficient regions it is necessary to increase the cost of shipped product. The EU countries' fisheries policy aims to contribute to the protection of piscatorial resources and the dynamic development of the fishing industry (CFP). For its successful implementation, it is also necessary to have appropriate authorized executive bodies of this sphere in every state. The objective of this study is to analyze the legislation of the southern EU countries, which are the leaders in fishing, with reference to the list of the authorities, dealing with this issue in the EU countries, their competencies; identify positive and negative points in their powers; suggest recommendations for improving the situation in this area. Fisheries in the EU countries are one of the complex economy sectors where public management is needed. In this area, such an institution is represented by executive authorities and the functions performed by them, which are provided by public works (services). The purpose of the study is to analyze the legislation of the northern EU countries, leading in fishery, regarding the list of fishing authorities in these EU countries, their competencies, identify positive and negative points in their powers and suggest recommendations for improvement of the situations in this area. The analysis was conducted using the research methodology, built on the following approaches: 1) comparison (comparing the number of executive bodies created in the field of fisheries, as well as their powers enshrined in the relevant regulatory legal acts; 2) assessments (effective identification of the executive authorities activities in the fisheries field); 3) modeling (author's recommendations for improving the executive authorities in the field of fisheries and their competence). Environmental fluctuations like temperature, food abundance etc. cause major changes in fish productivity and can lead to rapid fluctuations in fishing opportunities. Such fluctuations are not foreseen or taken into account by most management advisory frameworks for short-lived species such as sprat, which generally assume environmental stability and constant productivity. The paper summarizes the results obtained so far in the project "IntelliGent Oceanographically-based short-term fishery FORecastIng applicaTions" (GOFORIT), which will identify links between the ecology of short-lived fish species and climate and oceanographic conditions at time scales relevant to annual stock assessment and advisory cycles, and use this new knowledge in forecasts. We have identified new relationships between ecosystem status (temperature, phytoplankton and zooplankton) and some parameters like: recruitment, spawning stock biomass, stock biomass, L-infinity, mean length, mean weight, growth parameter (k), lipids, protein etc. The highest positive correlations (this means that as one variable increases/decreases in value, the second variable also increase/decrease in value), based on Pearson's r (r = [0.8,1]) was: between phytoplankton and biomass, between spawning stock biomass and stock biomass, between temperature and protein contents, between zooplankton and recruitment. The highest negative correlations (this means that as one variable increases in value, the second variable decreases in value), based on Pearson's r (r = [-1,-0.6]) was: between lipids and protein content, between phytoplankton and spawning stock biomass, between temperature and stock biomass, between temperature and growth parameter (k), between temperature and recruitment, between temperature and zooplankton, between zooplankton and lipids content. Based on the significance coefficient (p <= 0.05), we can conclude that there is a statistically significant correlation (which means that increases or decreases in one variable do significantly relate to increases or decreases in the second variable) between: biomass and catches, L-infinity and mean weight, spawning stock biomass and stock biomass, spawning stock biomass and recruitment, spawning stock biomass and catches, temperature and protein, lipids and protein, temperature and stock biomass, temperature and growth parameter (k), temperature and recruitment. The energy efficiency evaluation of trawlers becomes more and more relevant as the trend of the government laws follows the path of restrictions to new constructions to encourage improvement to existing vessels, often equipped with outdated technologies. The two conditions a trawler need to meet during its operations, namely the sailing and the trawling phases, require in principle very different performances. Despite the higher speed reached when cruising from ports to fishing grounds, this type of ships experiences increased resistance as well as heavy loaded propellers during the trawling operations at low speed. In the light of the specific tasks of such a kind of vessel, a preliminary assessment of the energy efficiency of the ship-system is of crucial interest to optimize both the operating costs and the impact on the sea environment. In this context, hydrodynamic performances and the propulsion system have direct consequences on the fuel consumption, hence on the operational costs of the vessel. In the proposed model, the engine fuel consumption is evaluated by suitable statistic regression to account for the prime mover performance into the propulsion chain. Ship resistance in calm water and added resistance due to rough sea conditions are computed by a Boundary Element Method. Both are then integrated into the global efficiency assessment method. An application of energy efficiency assessment and optimization of a hard-chine 18 meters trawler is presented. The final results are shown as part of a wider decision support system to optimize the overall performance of the vessel operation in different environmental conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
