Health misinformation research has dramatically increased since the start of the COVID‐19 pandemic, although not all of this work has taken advantage of the rich theoretical and methodological background information science as a discipline has to contribute. This panel presentation will feature information scientists conducting health misinformation research from and in various settings, to showcase the value and range of information science approaches to health misinformation research. Each panelist will describe their work in the area of understanding and/or addressing health misinformation in institutions such as libraries and schools, health systems and interventions such as vaccination or public health promotion, or the general public in their online or offline information environments. Presentations will also highlight the ways researchers are applying information science theory, methods, and/or approaches to health misinformation topics, as well as lessons panelists have learned through this work. The panel will conclude with an interactive audience discussion that will center on the ways in which information science can help understand and address health misinformation challenges around the world. Existing models of the work of analytics teams and how they impact health organizations do not describe the activities, nor their relationship to the organization, in sufficient detail for optimal decision making. This poster reports on an ongoing study of the work of healthcare and population health analytics teams to rectify this gap. We are interviewing members of analytics teams in healthcare and population health organizations to gather data on the processes, deliverables, downstream and upstream stakeholders, and artifacts that the teams rely on to conduct and manage their work. The primary analysis uses a grounded theory approach, with a secondary activity theory analysis of relationships between the analytics team, identified cognitive artifacts, and intended outcomes. In this poster, we intend to present the methods, participants, and some preliminary observations. We hope that this presentation will solicit feedback that leads to improvements in the study. Modern research data management in biomedicine requires data literacy skills. The NFDI4Health consortium, the national research data infrastructure for personal health data, addresses this need with several different training concepts for clinical and epidemiological scientists. Both the institutional anchorage of the training and the thematic focus vary and can be assembled from a modular system as required. The aim is to enable multipliers to adapt and use the training modules through open educational resources. In addition, a competency profile for data stewards is under development to support the choice of required training in research institutions. The Learning Health Systems (LHS) framework demonstrates the potential for iterative interrogation of health data in real time and implementation of insights into practice. Yet, the lack of appropriately skilled workforce results in an inability to leverage existing data to design innovative solutions. We developed a tailored professional development program to foster a skilled workforce. The short course is wholly online, for interdisciplinary professionals working in the digital health arena. To transform healthcare systems, the workforce needs an understanding of LHS principles, data driven approaches, and the need for diversly skilled learning communities that can tackle these complex problems together. The Certified Health Informatician Australasian (CHIA) is an assessment of a candidate's capabilities measured using a core set of health informatics competencies. The aim of this paper is to describe the outcomes of the first eight years since the program's launch. This paper contributes to the competency framework and certification discourse, and knowledge of the increasing importance and recognition of health informaticians through certification. Workforce development needs to align with the healthcare data ecosystem emerging from digital transformation in healthcare. Careers for health informaticists are emerging as translational agents between clinicians and data scientists. Digital tools and mechanisms in healthcare, through electronic health records (EHR), devices, capabilities including artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), interoperability and health information exchange (HIE) allow clinicians and stakeholders to capture, store, access and use health data and information in ways unseen in years past, creating a new digital health ecosystem. This transformation is evolving both technologies and the strategies to influence health outcomes. Careers in health informatics are now part of this data ecosystem, and it is important to examine the current status and its implications for job seekers and for workforce development. Multidisciplinary graduate education programs are hard to assess because of interdependent competencies. Students in these programs come with diverse disciplinary undergraduate degrees, and it is critical to identify knowledge gaps among these diverse learner groups to provide support to fill these gaps. Health Informatics (HI) is a multidisciplinary field in which health, technology, and social science knowledge are foundational to building HI competencies. In 2017, the American Medical Informatics Association identified ten functional domains in which HI competencies are divided. Using pre/post-semester knowledge assessment surveys of graduate students (n=60) between August 2021 to May 2022 in one of the largest graduate HI programs in the United States, we identified courses (n=9) across the curriculum that help build HI-specific competencies. Using statistical analysis, we identified three skills pathways by correlating knowledge gained with course learning objectives and used this to modify the curriculum over four semesters. These skills pathways are connected through one or two courses, where students can choose electives or, in some instances, course modules or assignments that link the skills pathways. Moreover, there is a statistically significant difference in how students gain these skills depending on their prior training, even though they take the same set of courses. Gender and other demographics did not show statistical differences in skills gained. Additionally, we found that research assistantships and internships/practicums provide additional skills not covered in our HI curriculum. The aim of this European interprofessional Health Informatics (HI) Summer School was (i) to make advanced healthcare students familiar with what HI can offer in terms of knowledge development for patient care and (ii) to give them an idea about the underlying technical and legal mechanisms. According to the students' evaluation, interprofessional education was very well received, problembased learning focussing on cases was rated positively and the learning goals were met. However, it was criticised that the online material provided was rather detailed and comprehensive and could have been a bit overcharging for beginners. These drawbacks were obviously compensated by the positive experience of working in international and interprofessional groups and a generally welcoming environment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The pandemic necessitated the rapid design, development and implementation of technologies to allow remote monitoring of COVID-19 patients at home. This study aimed to explore the environmental barriers and facilitators to the successful development and implementation of virtual care technologies in this fast-paced context. We interviewed eight staff at a virtual hospital in Australia. We found key facilitators to be a learning organizational culture and strong leadership support. Barriers included interoperability issues, legislative constraints and unrealistic clinician expectations. Also, we found that a combination of hot-desking and the lack of single sign on in the virtual care environment, was reported to create additional work for staff. Overall, despite this unique context, our findings are consistent with prior work examining design and implementation of healthcare technologies. The adequate management of patients' genomic information is essential for any health institution pursuing the Precision Medicine model. Here we approach a bioinformatic architecture that allows the Institution to store its whole genetic test data in a scalable database, and also the integration of that genetic data with the Electronic Health Record through a Clinical Decision Support System. The system complements patient care by suggesting referral to genetic counseling for patients who are potentially at risk of hereditary breast/ovarian cancer, and allowing for proper follow-up of patients with pathogenic variants in BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes. The implemented solution uses the FHIR standard and genetic nomenclatures from the Human Genome Variation Society and the HUGO Gene Nomenclature Committee. The architecture is flexible enough to allow any other health institution to integrate -to their information ecosystem- the whole solution or some of the modules according to its degree of digitization progress. Mobilizing Computable Biomedical Knowledge (MCBK) means establishing repositories of data and publications from open‐access sources that will support early reviews and faster validation of programs or software to improve healthcare. Supporting Learning Health Systems (LHSs) in the US and worldwide, developers, researchers, and healthcare practitioners aim for a learning system where knowledge‐generated processes in medical and clinical practices support continued care improvements. Thus, data and information need to be shared, and where possible, openly accessed and tested. Librarians and knowledge managers are the professionals who can lead these LHS efforts. Applying situated learning theory (Lave, 1991) in Alternative Event (AE), participants will interact in various ways aimed to promote leadership in LHS and CBK by information professionals and librarians. Building on knowledge from Michigan University School of Medicine's LHS leaders Charles Friedman and Rachel Richesson, there will be quick presentations on important aspects of MCBK and open access journals with activities. Participants review open access guidelines and samples from Learning Health Systems Journal Wiley Publication, and debate research quality for the use of data, machine learning, and/or computer software. The fight against the COVID‐19 pandemic is as much an information war as it is a medical war. Members from South Asia and the Asia Pacific countries share their experiences and challenges faced with collaborative responses for the ASIS&T Special Chapter funded project on "Dealing with COVID‐19 and saving people's lives in South Asia (SA) areas & beyond—A Health Informatics Promotion Project" awarded to the South Asia Chapter in 2021. The panel discusses the challenges faced within the context of geopolitical, socio‐economic, religious, and cultural conditions prevalent within their countries. In the first 40 minutes, panel members narrate their own experiences by sharing their personal stories about this collaborative project and share the challenges of content creation and promotion from within the context of their respective countries. The next 30 minutes will be facilitated by the panel chair inviting a discussion between panel members and the audience to engage and come up with innovative ideas, discuss challenges in creating multilingual content and suggestions for improving the project outcome as well as shed light on initiating future health informatics project in similar regions. Knowledge management literature has thoroughly discussed the aims and objectives of managing knowledge, recognized critical success factors of knowledge processes, analyzed knowledge creation, transfer and sharing, and even some indications of the effects of knowledge management have been evidenced. However, despite skills, competences, and employees' knowledge and experience are among the recognized success factors, discussions on competence needs of effective knowledge management are lacking. To contribute to this knowledge gap, this article studies knowledge management competences with an aim to elaborate this critical component of organizational performance and renewal. The special focus of the article is on the management of health and social care and the article brings together two distinct disciplines, knowledge management and health informatics, to suggest a novel way to approach KM capabilities and competences in the given context. Based on the literature and empirical data gathered with two surveys targeted to health informatics and knowledge management practitioners in health and social care the article concludes that: 1) It is difficult to separate the discussion on competence needs from the discussions concerning the information content and tools of data management. The latter aspects dominate the debate and determine and limit in many ways the discussions on knowledge management, its nature, content, and people participating to these discussions, and 2) knowledge management in health and social care focuses extensively on issues of data management and decision-making support. There is a proliferation of medical mobile apps: Google Play alone has thousands of apps in the “Medical” category. Many such apps perform critical tasks (e.g., are used with a medical device or in lieu of a device); handle sensitive patient related information; perform diagnosis; or treat diseases. However, there are wide gaps between an app’s claims and users’ expectations as well as between app implementations and regulatory frameworks’ mandates. We perform the first study, based on analyzing more than 4,000 Android apps, that characterizes medical apps. We begin by introducing an automated classification scheme that integrates textual information extracted from multiple sources to establish the purpose and target audience for an app, based on fine-grained traits and high-level categories; we found that the most common functionalities involved connecting to medical devices (e.g., hearing aids, glucometers), offering tele-health services, or patient management. We then dive deeper into app nature and characterize according to the function and domain of the app. We reveal actionable findings found in various facets of medical applications, regulatory frameworks and user privacy and safety. The COVID‐19 pandemic necessitated the understanding of the infodemic for making informed decisions. Limiting the spread of health misinformation and disinformation was the primary goal of the health informatics project. The project became the recipient of the ASIS&T "Chapter Innovation of the Year Award 2021". A repertoire of online and offline initiatives was carried out with 9 well‐researched videos for promoting health informatics. Since August 2021, thousands of academics, librarians, teachers, parents, and students from 16 countries and regions were invited to be science communicators to create and disseminate accurate health information in their areas through an international digital story writing competition. In this paper, we will discuss the strategies of responding to the information crisis, including employing interventions that protect against the infodemic and mitigate its harmful effects, to strengthen the resilience of individuals and communities in dealing with it in an information‐resilient society. Higher education institutions in low- and middle-income countries are increasingly offering post-graduate degree programmes in health informatics. An analysis of accredited Master of Science in Health Informatics (MSc HI) programmes in the East African Community (EAC), a common higher education and labor zone, revealed wide variability in covered courses and competencies. In this paper, we describe the process undertaken to harmonize and establish common benchmarks for MSc HI for the EAC, in collaboration with the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA). After a multi-step process involving desk-reviews, benchmarking workshop with stakeholders, and quality assurance of benchmarks by IUCEA, the MSc HI benchmarks were finalized. These benchmarks outline the MSc HI degree programme goal, objectives, admission criteria, graduation requirements, and expected Learning Outcomes (ELOs). The ELOs are further translated into courses covering all identified skills and competencies. The benchmarks should facilitate mobility of students, faculty and labor, and improve program quality. In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, mobile applications have been widely used and promoted to help prevent the spread of the pandemic. Many countries have proposed these applications with the aim of improving contact tracing and thus helping "flatten the curve" of infection case numbers. However, even though there were many campaigns to promote the use of these apps, their adoption was relatively low, which significantly affected their success. The success of COVID-19 contact tracing apps, in terms of its massive use and effectiveness, seems to have been deeply affected by issues associated with privacy and anonymity and the perception that its potential users have about the cost/benefit. In this paper, we analyze some applications for monitoring and contact tracing of infectious diseases to identify the most common approaches and features. We then proceed to discuss the challenges and risks that may influence the success of this type of applications, and we present some recommendations that can contribute to improve their acceptance. Considering the proposed recommendations, we describe the main features and the development of an app that includes additional functionalities alongside the contact tracing feature, in order to increase user perceived value from the use of the application. ICTs are pivotal in the existing social order and especially during the COVID‐19 global pandemic. This panel focuses on the use of ICTs by different actors, including individuals, nonprofit organizations, and governments around the globe in responding to this COVID crisis. We tackle three essential questions about ICTs and the global crisis. First, what role do ICTs play in a global crisis? Second, how do ICTs affect social order when tensions between control, autonomy, and power shift? Third, what are the theoretical and practical implications of ICT use during a global health crisis? Each of the panelists will discuss their ongoing research in social informatics or health informatics as relates to the panel theme and central questions in order to provide a holistic view of the role of ICTs during this global pandemic. This paper analyzes how mobile health applications contribute to the empowerment of health service users. The theoretical foundation includes m‐health, user empowerment, and value co‐creation. Quantitative and qualitative methods were used to investigate the Kangaroo application (Canguru, in Portuguese), which targets Brazilian pregnant women and seeks to make women empowered for a healthy pregnancy. The free app is a healthcare social network designed by a health‐tech startup and a reference Brazilian hospital. It has already supported 350,000 pregnant women, and more than 200 health professionals. The data collection effort comprised application log analysis of 6 months of records of 99,709 users, mobile‐based survey with 429 women and 16 interviews. The results showed that the functionalities of the personal and social dimensions mapped in the application explain 85.5% of the user empowerment. The app social features impacted 2.4 more than the personal functionalities. The quantitative analysis concluded that there was no moderating effect of styles of value co‐creation practices on the relationship between empowerment and its dimensions. In this study, we expand the four types of health data innovation typologies that can be observed in the healthcare domain, proposing the fifth type, the "blockchain data platform". The contributions of the study are in two folds: First, introducing the resource orchestration theory to the innovation management literature. This resource-based view is a major theoretical perspective in manage studies; and Second, identifying the existing data innovation typologies (conventional inhouse model, health data integration model, health platform model and health innovation ecosystem model) as centralized and semi-centralized while proposing a decentralized paradigm and system design for transforming healthcare data into innovations enabled by the blockchain, namely, the blockchain innovation platform. Healthcare informatics involves different areas and activities like data collection, data analysis, and knowledge sharing among health care professionals. Healthcare Informatics scholars have been contending that the advancement in the discipline can enable healthcare professionals to provide better care to patients and the public. The current study goal is to identify the effectiveness of health informatics in improving clinical nursing practice from recent literature. We followed the systematic literature review by reviewing research papers published in the period between 2009 until 2019. The extracted data showed that there are four main themes of the nursing practices that are affected positively by the implementation of healthcare informatics. Namely, they are promoting quality of healthcare, improving electronic documentation of nursing practice, improving technological competencies and leadership practices, and improving clinical decision making. Social question and answer (Q&A) platforms offer a new way for identifying information needs of people with certain diseases. Taking Quora as an example, we examine which health topics are of interest to autistic people and how these topics evolve over time. Experimental results reveal increasingly heavy and diverse attention to the condition, from diagnosis and treatment of autism itself to extended issues like social challenges, parenting, and education issues. We find that users tend to post clinical concerns about autism on Quora although traditionally such social Q&A platforms encourage more social and awareness‐level questions. New concerns have appeared recently about autism's relations to other diseases like attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD). Chronic pain is a stigmatized condition, and many patients report that it is difficult to get information from healthcare providers. As a result, some patients go online to exchange health information on social platforms, but the type and quality of this information is unknown. In this mixed‐methods study, comments on a chronic pain platform were inductively analyzed and a typology of medical advice was developed. Subsequently, the alignment of this advice with evidence in the medical literature was assessed by systematically searching for relevant systematic reviews or meta‐analyses. Five types of advice were present: over‐the‐counter remedies, prescription drugs, illicit substances, seeing a different healthcare provider, and lifestyle changes. No evidence was available for 33.9% of the advice, but 33% had at least low support in the literature. 7.8% was harmful. Contributions from this study include a general typology of medical advice online, a methodological approach for assessing the quality of such advice, and several recommendations for future research. Migration of health workers has been a major issue of concern for most developing countries including Ghana. Extant literature has revealed that several attempts have been made from various disciplines to counter this menace in some developing countries. In this paper, the field of Information Systems (IS) tries to uncover how technology can also be used to mitigate brain drain in the health sector of developing countries, using Ghana as a case. This study adopts the theory of affordance, Maslow's theory of motivation, and Herzberg's Two-Factor theory to support the development of a conceptual framework. An exploratory research approach using a qualitative research method was adopted. Theoretically, this paper contributes to the IS literature on migration. Practically, the paper presents a basis for more technological adoption within the health sector of Ghana and other developing countries that experience medical brain drain as a challenge. Despite the widespread adoption of electronic health records (EHRs) in the U.S. over the past decade, significant improvements, especially in patient safety, have yet to be realized. This finding, along with health informatics workforce data and an identified gap in the offerings of an educational program, led to a proposed professional doctorate in health informatics. Developed via stakeholder focus groups, the program was approved by the public university system, the state-level educational authority, and the regional accreditation body, with final approval in July 2018. Unique features of the program include a prolonged practice project demonstrating a return on investment, as well as online and face-to-face delivery components. This program aims to develop evidence-based professionals who improve the health of people and populations through the application of health informatics. In 2018, the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) created a national working group composed of key health informatics (HI) professionals, researchers and educators tasked with the development of a draft competency framework for Saudi HI professionals. Over an eight-month period, the research group collected data obtained from literature sources (both academic and grey), international competency standards, participant surveys, focus groups, and expert panel reviews. Through multiple rounds of discussions and graphic visualisation of the information collected using Microsoft PowerPoint and flip charts, the data were summarised and a visual representation of the proposed SHICF was developed. The result of this effort was the development of the first Saudi Health Informatics Competency Framework (SHICF). This paper provides a comparative assessment between the Saudi HI competency framework development and that of other internationally recognised HI competency development frameworks. This paper addresses the task of answering consumer health questions about medications. To better understand the challenge and needs in terms of methods and resources, we first introduce a gold standard corpus for Medication Question Answering created using real consumer questions. The gold standard1 consists of six hundred and seventy-four question-answer pairs with annotations of the question focus and type and the answer source. We first present the manual annotation and answering process. In the second part of this paper, we test the performance of recurrent and convolutional neural networks in question type identification and focus recognition. Finally, we discuss the research insights from both the dataset creation process and our experiments. This study provides new resources and experiments on answering consumers’ medication questions and discusses the limitations and directions for future research efforts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the development of information systems (IS) often non-functional requirements (NFR) are not considered as important as functional requirements. However, they remain essential to ensure software quality, as they are more critical than individual functional requirements. This research synthesizes the results of a systematic mapping research about NFR implemented in IS of the health area, where 488 primary studies were identified, of which 39 were included in data extraction. Among the most cited NFR, we highlight security and privacy, usability, reliability, and availability. The most commonly used requirement elicitation technique was the interview. EHRs have become a means for interprofessional practice in healthcare. Following a rapid review, a lack of study on interprofessional documentation (IPD) was identified, especially in professions other than physicians and nurses. GDPR influences the way people define and use personal data. This study aims to discuss how the relationship between data subjects and data controllers in the healthcare context would be influenced under GDPR. We adopt the Key Mediating Variable, as a conceptual model, to reveal potential changes in the hospital‐patient relationship, specifically in terms of trust and commitment, as influenced by GDPR in the following five precursors: relationship termination costs, benefits, shared values of data, communication, and opportunistic behavior. The past five years have featured increased multidisciplinary interest in how health happens in public libraries. This panel will explore ethical and emerging issues associated with conducting research on this topic. After lightning talks from five panelists, the audience will engage in interactive, small group discussions focused on how we can form and sustain meaningful research relationships with public libraries and public librarians, for health‐related and for other research. Through this discussion, we will outline new research directions on how health happens in public libraries and challenge ourselves to do more to understand this and other processes in public libraries. An accurate and timely assessment of mental health of individuals is an important building block toward healthy well‐functioning societies. Traditional methods for assessing mental health and wellbeing are surveys administered by health‐care professionals. Such surveys are labor intensive, costly, and typically intermittent. With the growth in mobile sensing, health informatics, and data science, this work argues a case for using mobile phone meta‐data and data analytics to automatically infer an individual's mental health. Specifically, based on a clinically utilized health measure as ground truth (MHI‐5) and ten‐week phone usage metadata corpus for 45 participants we report that automated machine learning algorithms utilizing phone based features can achieve reasonable accuracy (around 80%) at automatically classifying the level of mental health of an individual. Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) has become a central concern for many healthcare providers (FDA, 2016). It is well known that adverse reactions to drugs are a reason for several health problems. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) estimation, ADRs are the 4th leading cause of death. The prevalence of ADRs demands a simple ADR reporting process. The ADR reporting process involves many stakeholders such as the FDA, the patient, and the health professional. The research uncovered a significant lack of communication among the stakeholders, thus the research goal is to improve this lack of communication. This research paper is an extension of a previous research in progress; Toward Improving Adverse Drug Reactions Reporting From Twitter (Alghamdi S, & Mujallid O, 2016); that provided the research problem, method, methodology, and designs the artifacts. In this paper, we introduce a novel application of social robotics in healthcare: high fidelity, facially expressive, robotic patient simulators (RPSs), and explore their usage within a clinical experimental context. Current commercially-available RPSs, the most commonly used humanoid robots worldwide, are substantially limited in their usability and fidelity due to the fact that they lack one of the most important clinical interaction and diagnostic tools: an expressive face. Using autonomous facial synthesis techniques, we synthesized pain both on a humanoid robot and comparable virtual avatar. We conducted an experiment with 51 clinicians and 51 laypersons (n = 102), to explore differences in pain perception across the two groups, and also to explore the effects of embodiment (robot or avatar) on pain perception. Our results suggest that clinicians have lower overall accuracy in detecting synthesized pain in comparison to lay participants. We also found that all participants are overall less accurate detecting pain from a humanoid robot in comparison to a comparable virtual avatar, lending support to other recent findings in the HRI community. The conception of measures to prevent illnesses acquired by patients when they are hospitalized, called Hospital Acquired Complications (HACs), are a challenge these days. Prevention can be achieved through the creation of standard policies and procedures to be followed by hospital agents, as well as by algorithmic analyzes of available hospitalization data, to anticipate cases of HACs. This work extends the preprocessing phase of an application of the machine-learning model for predicting the occurrence of HACs using temporal clinical data. The original work achieved good results in the analysis phase, but they argue that it would be necessary to increase the volume of data with which the results were made so that those results could be generalized. They used the MIMIC II database (Multiparameter Intelligent Monitoring in Intensive Care) and this work aims to convert the application developed to make use of the MIMIC III (Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care) database, which has a much larger data volume. However, this article focuses only on the preprocessing phase. The conversion was successful and the application now retrieves data from the MIMC III according to the needs of the prediction model. Topics covered include the demographic characteristics of Egyptian patients using or not using MMAs, the MMAs commonly used by Egyptian patients and the barriers faced by Egyptian patients when using MMAs.

Over the past two decades, HCIS has grown from a conceptual and academic research area to a major growing market segment that spans primary scientific and medical research to point-of-care precision medical treatment. Each year, trade and medical organizations like HIMSS, AMIA, and AHIMA, and clinical organizations in fields like cardiology, laboratory medicine, ophthalmology, pathology and radiology attract hundreds of thousands of attendees to discuss and display innovative HCIS projects and products. What was once a field dominated by the US and Europe is now being matched by similar programs in India, China, and throughout Latin America. For this panel we have assembled a well-seasoned group of speakers, educators, researchers, and practitioners to advance our collective ability to teach "state of the art" courses in this critically important area. This paper reports the findings of a pilot study investigating nurses' knowledge, perceptions, and attitudes towards using electronic medical records. The pilot study involved 230 nurses at single clinic in Jeddah City in Saudi Arabia and forms part of a more extensive study looking at in excess of 2,000 nurses views on, and level of acceptance of EMR in hospitals across Riyadh and Jeddah City, based on key criteria such as nurses age and education, computer literacy, stage in their career, and opportunities for and experiences of using EMR. Initial findings from the pilot show that there is no significant relation between years of prior computer experience and the knowledge or attitude toward EMR; that there are widely differing views across the study population with regards to how effective they perceive EMR to be; and that there are a range of preferred approaches to learning more about EMR. Electronic Health Information (EHI) is a very high demanding resource for every researcher in different health related areas. However, privacy acts prevent direct access to this information without patient's consent. Therefore, different solutions have been proposed such as de-identification, on-site analysis, and limited remote access, to preserve the data owner's privacy. Each of those approaches has different drawbacks and/or limitations. For instance, de-identification will reduce data utility because of low precision of the final released data, and also it has a risk of data re-identification. On-site analysis has some physical limitations and time consuming procedures like background checks. Remote access increases security risks, and when data has to be pulled from multiple data resources, it requires patient consent for data disclosure. In this paper, we have proposed a set of privacy-preserving methods for popular health statistical analysis. Using this set of secure protocols, health researchers, as data users, are able to receive the results of their queries from the data owners, while each data custodian can keep their sensitive data private. This work-in-progress project tests the effects of context on the variation in information quality judgments. Particular consideration was given to social Q&A users' high-quality information selection practices in health. A total of 46,815 answers, collected from Yahoo!Answers, were analyzed, adopting the Hierarchical Generalized Linear Modeling (HGLM) technique to investigate variations in the likelihood of the selection. Current approaches for capacity building in Health Informatics (HI) in developing countries mostly focus on training, and often rely on support from foreign entities. In this paper, we describe a comprehensive and multidimensional capacity-building framework by Lansang & Dennis, and its application for HI capacity building as implemented in a higher-education institution in Kenya. This framework incorporates training, learning-by-doing, partnerships, and centers of excellence. At Moi University (Kenya), the training dimensions include an accredited Masters in HI Program, PhD in HI, and HI short courses. Learning-by-doing occurs through work within MOH facilities at the AMPATH care and treatment program serving 3 million people. Moi University has formed strategic HI partnerships with Regenstrief Institute, Inc. (USA), University of Bergen (Norway), and Makerere University (Uganda), among others. The University has also created an Institute of Biomedical Informatics to serve as an HI Center of Excellence in the region. This Institute has divisions in Training, Research, Service and Administration. In this paper we present some of the key challenges involved in building a P5 framework based on the Cloud and Big Data prospective including privacy, anonymity and genetic awareness and education.. Information seeking often occurs in groups and communities, and these communities differ in ways that impact their usefulness to their members. This study uses grounded theory and information horizons mapping to explore information seeking and sharing in two place-based communities in Florida, addressing factors associated with participants' evaluations of their local communities of support. These factors provide insight into parents' expectations of their information worlds and expectations related to information behaviors of actors within their local information environments. The study finds similar stakeholder groups similar expressions of the belief that some communities were "better" than others for raising children with Down syndrome in both areas, but varying evaluations of their own communities based on personal experiences. Participants agreed on the following factors as important indicators of a strong local community of support: existence and activities of local parent networks and organizations, access to quality education and health care, full inclusion in regular education when desired, social inclusion of their children into the community at large, and employability for adults with Down syndrome. Childhood obesity is a phenomenon that is of great concern in many communities. Decreased levels of physical activity and increased levels of sedentary behavior are two of the major contributors to the increasing rates of obesity among children and adolescents. Nowadays a majority of children's leisure time is spent engaged in screen-based activities. This is likely due to the advent of new technologies such as video games, smartphones and digital tablets that engage children and adolescents. However, converting these passive screen activities to active activities has been achieved through the development of exergames, video games that integrate physical activity into the game play. Exergames provide some potential for promoting increased level of physical activity. New wearable activity monitoring technologies, such as pedometers, that track everyday activity provide another technology solution for promoting active lifestyles.
