- Abstract
The objective of this dissertation is to analyze the perpetuation of the Golden Age sexual discourse in contemporary Spanish plays that reimagine the figure of Don Juan. In order to conduct this transhistorical study, the plays selected written during the Golden Age are El Burlador de Sevilla, by Tirso de Molina, and No Hay Cosa Como Callar, by Pedro Calderon de la Barca. The contemporary plays are Johnny Tenorio, by Carlos Morton, D.J., by Jeronimo Lopez Mozo, and d.juan@simetrico.es, by Jesus Campos Garcia. The theoretical frame used to study the perpetuation of sexual normativity follows the Bordieuan theories of different capitals; especifically, Catherine Hakim's concept of erotic capital is a key element used to understand the complex dynamics of sexual discourses through both historical periods.
