The paper presents new diagnostic method applied to assess aging degree for paper-oil insulation used in professional electrical power device, primarily including medium and high power transformers. The described method is based on modified diagnostics using the recovery voltage effect occurring in dielectrics (RVM ? Recovery Voltage Methods). Modification of the RVM method applied so far, which is now used only to assess moistening degree for paper-oil insulation in power transformers, consists in a new parametric analysis of recovery voltage time characteristics. Simulation and experimental tests carried out in laboratory conditions for adequately prepared insulation samples have proven that the time-constant of recovery voltage decay (?R_MIN) is the most susceptible parameter as regards quantitative change in the function of aging of the examined insulation. This conclusion is also confirmed by statistical studies, in which a multi-parameter variance analysis method has been applied. An original equivalent circuit diagram of the insulation has been used to simulate aging degree of paper-oil insulation samples in numerical tests. Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) simulation tools are typically developed using conventional procedural programming languages. On the other hand, modern high-level and equation-based programming languages, such as Modelica, are currently available. Modelica allows formulating models that are easy to develop, maintain and understand by expressing what needs to be computed without stating how it should be computed. This paper presents a Modelica-based simulator for electromagnetic transients. It is demonstrated that this approach offers significant advantages for developing sophisticated models. The difficulty in acquiring fault label data is a major obstacle to the application of data-driven fault isolation in DC microgrids. To remove this barrier, this paper introduces an approach of generating synthetic data with the line currents measured during normal operation as the substitute for fault label data in training an ensemble model, which is aimed to isolate line short-circuit faults in DC microgrids. Based on a high-frequency model of DC microgrids, we prove that the line currents during the closing of unloaded DC lines have similar high-frequency features as those during a line short-circuit fault. On this basis, the synthetic data are obtained through performing discrete wavelet packet transform on the line currents measured during the circuit breaker operation. With normal operating data and synthetic data, an ensemble model is trained as the fault classifier. In the verification tests of different fault scenarios in a three-terminal DC microgrid model, the detection rates of the proposed ensemble model are over 90% while the false positive rates are below 0.5%. This paper introduces a novel frequency domain technique to globally evaluate the accuracy of electro-magnetic transient simulations. It is shown that simulation accuracy at low frequencies can sometimes be poorer than at high frequency. A modified approach which quantifies accuracy from a driving point as a function of frequency is also introduced that uses the Bilinear Transformation and Norton equivalents, to produce a “simulation accuracy spectrum”. This approach can be applied to large systems without explicitly forming state space equations. It also permits the accuracy analysis of networks with distributed components such as frequency dependent transmission lines. Two examples are used to verify the proposed technique, a small network with a frequency dependent transmission line modeled by the universal line model; and the IEEE 39 bus system connected with an LCC-HVdc system. Modular multilevel converters have become the technology of choice in high voltage direct current systems. They are composed of a large number of submodules, which poses significant computational challenges to electromagnetic transient simulations. To address this issue, scholars proposed several approaches that are a trade-off between simulation accuracy and computational burden, which mainly achieve numerical efficiency by adopting reduced and simplified models of the converter arm submodules. This paper proposes a different simulation paradigm based on sub-circuit isomorphism. It is suited for the analysis of intrinsically modular electronic circuits, as it exploits the common behavior of structurally identical submodules by clustering them together. This method does not require any simplification of the submodule electrical model and minimizes the number of equations to be solved at each time step of the time domain analysis, thereby significantly reducing the computational effort. Thus, this method is suitable for thorough simulations of ac/dc networks, which may require the implementation of detailed transistor-level representations of the converter submodules. This paper studies the estimation problem for a class of nonlinear tunnel diode circuits with parameter perturbation. The dynamics of the nonlinear circuit is approximated by the Takagi–Sugeno fuzzy model with linear fractional parametric uncertainties. Considering the fuzzy filter with gain uncertainties, a filtering error system can be gotten naturally. The concentration of this paper lies in deriving the design conditions for the desired resilient filter such that the filtering error system preserves asymptotic stability as well as the $\boldsymbol {\mathcal {L}}_{\boldsymbol {\infty }}$ -norm of the transfer function from the external disturbance input to the filtering error output is below a specified bound. The filter design conditions for guaranteeing the prescribed peak-to-peak performance of the filtering error system are provided by a set of linear matrix inequalities. Several models were successfully developed to reproduce the dynamic behavior of ZnO surge arrester, but the accuracy and reliability of these models are only evaluated for residual voltage calculations. This paper presents a model developed with the specific goal of achieving reliable and accurate modeling of the energy absorbed by a ZnO surge arrester during impulsive transients. To develop and test the model, an experimental database was built, composed of responses of ZnO varistors to current impulses. The database contains the response of varistors of different classes and manufacturers, subjected to current impulses with different waveforms and amplitudes. Then, using system identification techniques, a mathematical model was proposed and validated. The proposed model was successfully tested on the same circumstances that traditional models are used and its performance was compared with the most relevant existing ZnO model. This paper addresses theoretical aspects of arithmetic circuit verification based on algebraic rewriting. Its goal is to advance the understanding of algebraic techniques for arithmetic circuit verification in the context of symbolic computer algebra. The paper offers a new insight into the arithmetic circuit verification problem, by viewing the computation performed by the circuit as the flow of digital data. In the proposed bit-flow model, the circuit is modeled as a network of logic components satisfying a bit-flow conservation law. We prove that the value of the flow of data in the circuit is invariant throughout the circuit and use this to prove soundness and completeness of the rewriting technique, independently from the computer algebra arguments. The efficiency of the method is illustrated with impressive results for large integer multipliers. The verification system and benchmarks are offered in an open source software environment. This paper presents a memristive device model capable of accurately matching a wide range of characterization data collected from a tantalum oxide memristor. Memristor models commonly use a set of equations and fitting parameters to match the complex dynamic conductivity pattern observed in these devices. Along with the proposed model, a procedure is also described that can be used to optimize each fitting parameter in the model relative to an I–V curve. Therefore, model parameters are self-updated based on this procedure when a new cyclic I–V sweep is provided for model optimization. This model will automatically provide the best possible match to the characterization data without any additional optimization from the user. In this paper, multiple cyclic I–V characterizations are modeled from ten different tantalum oxide devices (on the same wafer). Additionally, studies were completed to demonstrate the amount of variation present between devices on a wafer, as well as the amount of variation present within a single device. Brushless doubly fed induction machine (BDFIM) which is able to operate in both induction mode and synchronous mode, has received increasing attention of researchers, in the last three decades. It could be considered as an emerging competitor for older structures, due to the substantial features such as brushless structure and requiring a fractionally rated frequency converter. The iron loss which constitutes a significant portion of total power losses is higher in BDFIM in contrast with standard induction machine. Even though it is essential to consider the iron loss effect on dynamic behavior of BDFIM, there is still no comprehensive study in the literature. The aim of this paper is to propose a dynamic model of BFIM in general reference frame in which the iron loss is taken into account. This model which is credible for all BDFIM operation modes including synchronous one, facilitates the performance analysis of BDFIM and implementation of the various control techniques. The supplementary simulations and experiments confirm that the proposed model is an appropriate candidate for BDFIM drives. Because of the complex structure of BDFIM, determination of the iron loss isn't straightforward. In this paper, a practical approach is introduced to calculate the iron loss of BDFIM in terms of frequency variations. This paper is concerned with control-oriented modeling of a class of wireless power transfer systems with a phase-shift-controlled inverter. Two methods are investigated: the analytical modeling method, which is based on physical laws, and the refined instrumental variable method, which is based on sampled data. It shows that the former provides physical insights into the system, and that the resulting models will be accurate if the true circuit component parameters are a priori known. Otherwise, the model accuracy may decline. By contrast, the latter provides a cheap solution for accurate modeling, based only on a set of sampled input–output data, and the resulting model can capture very well the dynamic behavior of the system within a defined operating range. In real applications, it is always hard to know the actual circuit component parameters, since they may drift from the nominal values, due to some reasons such as the aging of circuit components and the variation of coil placement, making the analytical modeling method not very accurate. Therefore, to preserve the virtues of both methods, it is suggested to use them as a combination, that is, using the analytical modeling method to determine the model structure while using the data-driven modeling method to estimate the model parameters. Partial shading condition drastically reduces the maximum power output of photovoltaic array. Partial shading occurs due to several factors, such as flying birds, trees, and passing clouds. Many ways can be mitigated partial shading problems in photovoltaic (PV) array. One among the way is reconfiguration techniques, namely reconfigure the location of PV modules in PV array based on irradiance levels in order to distribute shading effects and increasing maximum power. This paper proposed an optimal SuDoKu reconfiguration pattern for $9\times 9$ total-cross-tied (TCT) PV array to improve maximum power under partial shading conditions. In this approach, the physical location of PV modules in TCT array are rearranged based on optimal SuDoKu style without altering the electrical connections, so that the shading effects can distribute over the array. Further, the performance of proposed pattern investigated with existing SuDoKu pattern under different shading conditions by comparing the global maximum power point, mismatch losses, fill-factor, and efficiency using MATLAB-Simulink. Based on the results of this paper, it concluded that the proposed optimal SuDoKu reconfiguration arrangement is reducing the wiring arrangement and increasing the shading distribution over the array as compared to SuDoKu arrangement. An increasing need for fast and reliable models has led to a continuous development of Fourier-based (FB) analytical modeling. This paper presents an overview of the techniques that are currently available in FB modeling for electric machines. By coupling that overview to the most relevant literature related to the subject, an interesting starting point is provided for anyone who wants to use or improve FB models. The following seven aspects of FB models are discussed in detail: 1) the magnetic potential (scalar or vector potential); 2) the coordinate system and the solution of the partial-differential equations for each magnetic potential and for each coordinate system; 3) the way in which time dependence is accounted for; 4) the implementation of the source terms; 5) the possibilities to account for slotted structures; 6) the modeling of eccentricity; and 7) the post-processing computation of physical quantities, such as flux density, electromotive force, torque, losses, and eddy currents in conductive objects. Furthermore, this paper gives the closed form solution of the Laplace, Poisson, and Helmholtz equations in each coordinate system. This paper deals with stabilization of an ideal transformer model (ITM) circuit, used as an interfacing algorithm for hardware-in-the-loop simulations. The ITM allows for the distribution of simulation model computations over multiple processors or can be used in power hardware-in-the-loop simulations. When specific impedance conditions of the partitioned circuit are not met, this interfacing algorithm becomes unstable. This paper first presents a new theoretical approach for representing the ITM interfacing algorithm that is based on delay differential equations. With a stability analysis of the obtained time-delay system, a stabilization method is proposed, which increases the stability boundaries of the ITM algorithm. This paper introduces a novel modeling approach that allows to obtain fast simulations of pulsewidth-modulated dc–dc switched-mode power supplies (SMPS). The proposed methodology combines the use of precise switched models during transient evolutions and averaged models during steady-state or slowly varying conditions. In that way, the resulting mixed modeling approach enables to obtain the detailed switching behavior of SMPS in the context of long-term simulations. The commutation between models is automatically performed in runtime by an algorithm that detects the transient or slowly varying condition according to the evolution of some model variables. When the precise switched model is used, the mentioned algorithm also adjusts the averaged model parameters so that its results are accurate irrespective of the operating point. This paper also describes the implementation of the methodology in the Modelica language and reports simulation experiments showing that the results are as accurate as those obtained using precise switched models, but several times faster. Objective: To develop quantitative methods for the clinical interpretation of the ballistocardiogram (BCG). Methods: A closed-loop mathematical model of the cardiovascular system is proposed to theoretically simulate the mechanisms generating the BCG signal, which is then compared with the signal acquired via accelerometry on a suspended bed. Results: Simulated arterial pressure waveforms and ventricular functions are in good qualitative and quantitative agreement with those reported in the clinical literature. Simulated BCG signals exhibit the typical I, J, K, L, M, and N peaks and show good qualitative and quantitative agreement with experimental measurements. Simulated BCG signals associated with reduced contractility and increased stiffness of the left ventricle exhibit different changes that are characteristic of the specific pathological condition. Conclusion: The proposed closed-loop model captures the predominant features of BCG signals and can predict pathological changes on the basis of fundamental mechanisms in cardiovascular physiology. Significance: This paper provides a quantitative framework for the clinical interpretation of BCG signals and the optimization of BCG sensing devices. This paper presents a unified physics-based insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) compact model for circuit simulation that predicts the performance of both Si and SiC, n- and p-channel devices. The model can predict the detailed switching waveforms of these technologies based on its charge-based formulation. Further, this compact IGBT model is presented alongside a unique datasheet-driven parameter extraction process. The parameter extraction process enables users to quickly extract model parameters from data typically published without the need of taking physical measurements. The model has been validated with both Si and SiC devices for static and dynamic characteristics. The SiC IGBTs used for validation are a 12.5-kV n-channel device and a 13-kV p-channel device, while the Si IGBT chosen was IXDH30N120 from IXYS Corp. (Milpitas, CA, USA). This is the only IGBT model that predicts the performance of both n- and p-channel, Si and SiC devices, providing more freedom for the development of complex power electronics circuit designs. The convergence of the model has been verified by implementing a complex circuit consisting of both a dc–dc converter and a dc–ac inverter. The results presented here show that the unified model can be used to describe the behavior of a wide range of Si and SiC IGBT circuits. In this paper, a current controller for a parallel operation of inverters is described. When inverters operate in parallel, it is a well-known fact that the inverter current is composed of the average current (AVC) and the zero-sequence circulating current (henceforth ZSCC), which inevitably flows between inverters under the parallel operation. Considering this, previous studies concentrated on reducing ZSCC. However, in this paper, it is found that the inverter current has another component, a differential current, in addition to the two components of AVC and ZSCC. Based on these three decomposed current components, three equivalent circuits are derived from n-paralleled inverters. To minimize the differential current and improve the regulation performance of the total output phase current, a decomposed current control scheme is proposed from equivalent circuit models. The proposed algorithm is applied to a system consisting of three paralleled two-level inverters with small shared inductance whose dc links are connected in common. Additionally, synchronous pulsewidth modulation is employed as the PWM method for each inverter. The proposed current controller is compared with two conventional current controllers, one where each inverter controls its own currents and the other where only AVC is controlled. Through experiments, it is shown that these conventional controllers have limitations and the proposed current controller overcomes these limitations. The effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed control scheme are verified through experimental results. Motivated by the fact that living cells use molecular circuits (i.e., a set of chemical reactions) for information processing, this paper investigates the problem of designing molecular circuits for demodulation. In our earlier work, we use a Markovian approach to derive a demodulator for diffusion-based molecular communication. The demodulation filters take the form of an ordinary differential equation, which computes the log-posteriori probability of a transmission symbol being sent. This paper considers the realization of these demodulation filters using molecular circuits assuming the transmission symbols are rectangular pulses of the same duration but different amplitudes, i.e., concentration modulation. This paper makes a number of contributions. First, we use time-scale separation and renewal theory to analytically derive an approximation of the demodulation filter from our earlier work. Second, we present a method to turn this approximation into a molecular circuit. By using simulations, we show that the output of the derived molecular circuit is approximately equal to the log-posteriori probability calculated by the exact demodulation filter if the log-posteriori probability is positive. Third, we demonstrate that a biochemical circuit in yeast behaves similarly to the derived molecular demodulation filter and is therefore a candidate for implementing the derived filter. This paper proposes an inequality constraints based method to efficiently and quickly estimate stability regions of droop control slopes for modular multilevel converter (MMC)-based multi-terminal dc (MTDC) systems. At first, a general small-signal model of the MMC-MTDC system is developed, which consists of the dc network and the MMCs with $dq$ controllers and multiple droop controllers. When deriving corresponding nonlinear state-space models, the edge-node matrix is introduced for the dc network modeling with arbitrary grid topology and transmission line model. Then, based on the eigenvalues sensitivity and the Taylor Series of eigenvalues, a set of inequality constraints are proposed to expeditiously estimate the suprema of the droop slopes and identify the droop slope stability regions for the MMC-MTDC system. To verify the state-space model, a comparison of dynamic responses between the math model calculation in MATLAB and the EMT simulation in PSCAD/EMTDC is conducted, which demonstrates the accuracy and the correctness of the developed small-signal model. The effectiveness of the proposed parameter stability region estimation method is demonstrated by several examinations including the supremum tests of droop slopes, the stability region sketches on accuracy, and the predicted unstable operations in PSCAD/EMTDC. Frequency response analysis (FRA) is a popular tool to detect transformer winding deformation faults. It has been recently used to diagnose the winding inter-turn short circuit fault of the electric machine. The application of FRA is based on the fact that the winding can be equivalent to an electrical circuit consisting of resistance, inductance, and capacitance. Therefore, to obtain an accurate broadband equivalent circuit model of synchronous machine and perform the fault analysis and diagnosis, this paper introduces the gray box model technique based on the state space and genetic algorithm. The electrical circuit of a form-wound coil of a 4 kW machine with known electrical parameters is used to verify the proposed method primarily. Besides, the equivalent circuit modeling is carried out and experimentally verified on an actual 5 kW synchronous machine. Finally, the fault simulation analyses of winding inter-turn short circuits are performed based on the proposed equivalent electrical circuit. The verification result shows that the circuit parameters identified by the proposed method are accurate. Moreover, the fault simulation results indicate that the inter-turn short circuit faults can cause apparent variations in the frequency response curves. Impedance modeling of a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG)-based wind energy conversion system (WECS) usually ignores the machine-side dynamics, instead, the machine-side system is simplified as a constant power source, while merely keeping the detailed grid-side converter model. This simplification is mainly based upon the intuition that the dc-bus capacitor is large enough so that the machine- and grid-side dynamics can be decoupled. However, the simplification probably does not hold in practice since there is always a tendency to minimize the capacitor size to achieve a smaller package for installation. Therefore, the machine-side system should not be ignored, otherwise maybe leading to error for stability analysis. To address this issue, this paper developed a complete ac-side impedance model of the PMSG-based WECS. Then, impact factors about the coupling characteristics between machine- and grid-side systems of the PMSG-based WECS are discussed. Finally, a case study of sub/super synchronous oscillation is carried out on a practical offshore wind farm integrated with a modular multilevel converter based high-voltage dc (MMC-HVDC) transmission system in China. The results show that ignoring the machine-side system would lead to an optimistic stability judgement, which confirms the necessity of the complete model of PMSG-based WECS. Furthermore, the system can be stabilized by either changing the couplings between machine- and grid-side systems of PMSG-based WECS or implementing active damping in the wind farm side MMC. This paper proposes a new fast chargingstrategy for lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries. The approach relies on an experimentally validated high-fidelity model describing battery electrochemical and thermal dynamics that determine the fast charging capability. Such a high-dimensional nonlinear dynamic model can be intractable to compute in real-time if it is fused with the extended Kalman filter or the unscented Kalman filter that is commonly used in the community of battery management. To significantly save computational efforts and achieve rapid convergence, the ensemble transform Kalman filter (ETKF) is selected and tailored to estimate the nonuniform Li-ion battery states. Then, a health- and safety-aware charging protocol is proposed based on successively applied proportional-integral (PI) control actions. The controller regulates charging rates using online battery state information and the imposed constraints, in which each PI control action automatically comes into play when its corresponding constraint is triggered. The proposed physical constraint-triggered PI charging control strategy with the ETKF is evaluated and compared with several prevalent alternatives. It shows that the derived controller can achieve close to the optimal solution in terms of charging time and trajectory, as determined by a nonlinear model predictive controller, but at a drastically reduced computational cost. A dynamic model of a battery is required for the appropriate real-time control during charging/discharging process. Present paper considers the development of nonlinear Dynamic Equivalent Electric Circuit Model (DEECM) of a Valve Regulated Lead-Acid (VRLA) battery based on the data obtained through the experimentation and the available datasheet information. Cases of charging, discharging, and the self-discharging are considered for 12V, 26Ah VRLA battery at room temperature. Accordingly, experimental ${\boldsymbol{v}} - {\boldsymbol{i}}$ characteristics of the battery are used to express the nonlinear model parameters as a function of measurable battery current and estimated open-circuit voltage as a part of parameter estimation. Hybrid ac-dc grids can gain the benefits of both ac and dc grids. The Ac-Dc circuit analysis can be performed using sequential methods that decouple ac and dc systems or unified (simultaneous) methods that solve the ac and dc mismatch equations simultaneously. This paper introduces a unified ac–dc analysis via an improved model for the ac–dc coupling through which the ac and dc load flow analyses can be simultaneously conducted. The ac–dc coupling is modeled by an admittance building block, and thus, the dc grid is converted to an ac-equivalent circuit within the hybrid network. However, unlike past literature, state variables beyond nodal voltages and angles are avoided, leading to a simpler algorithm, and reactive power injection of the coupling mechanism, a requirement for the IEEE 1547 Std, is explicitly modeled. Furthermore, the proposed model can be applied to both voltage-source and line-commuted converters. Accordingly, the conventional ac power flow algorithms can be applied to the hybrid circuit paving the path for seamless adoption of hybrid circuits and significantly saving time and effort in programming, troubleshooting, and upgrading techniques currently used in research and industry as well as a high-level analysis tool regarding the hybrid ac-dc grid is achieved. Energy storage devices such as batteries and supercapacitors are arousing a growing interest in many areas of industrial applications since they allow improving the dynamic response and efficiency. In this sense, the availability of electric models of batteries and supercapacitors is necessary for the correct sizing, control, and energy management of power systems. In order to identify the parameters of the equivalent electric model, the identification current profile is often a pulse of charge or discharge. Subsequently, these models are validated with a current verification profile. However, the verification profile compared to the identification profile is more dynamic in amplitude and frequency, producing validation errors due to the identification signal's limited bandwidth. This paper proposes a novel Pulse – Pseudo Random Binary Sequence (Pulse – PRBS) identification current profile, with similar spectral characteristics to the verification profile, in order to improve the modeling accuracy. The parameters of a Lithium-ion battery and a supercapacitor are obtained with this new identification current profile and the Optimization Toolbox of Matlab, using the electrical models in Simulink or Simscape. Finally, the models are validated with the Urban Driving Cycle ECE-15 and the Hybrid Pulse Power Characterization (HPPC) for electric vehicle applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Currently, we are developing an AC/DC conversion technology with the development of power semiconductors. Accordingly, DC is attracting attention because it is advantageous in the current transmission system. However, it has a problem that the cut-off technology required for DC system operation has not been secured yet. We are researching and developing a DC cut-off technology in several ways. We proposed a model that combines a superconducting fault current limiter and a DC circuit breaker. This is a configuration which a superconducting fault current limiter and a mechanical DC circuit breaker are connected in series. The superconducting fault current limiter limits the initial fault current and the mechanical DC circuit breaker cuts off the fault current. The mechanical DC circuit breaker consists of a high-speed DC switch, a LC divergent oscillation circuit and a surge arrester. This creates an artificial zero-point by affecting the blocking of the DC fault current according to the LC diverging oscillation circuit. In this paper, we analyzed the effect of the LC divergent oscillation circuit on the superconducting DC circuit breaker according to Reactor (L) and Capacitor (C). As a result, we analyzed the operating characteristics of the superconducting DC circuit breaker according to the application of the LC divergent oscillation circuit using the PSCAD/EMTDC program. Also, we confirmed the characteristics of the initial fault current limit rate of the superconducting fault current limiter and the possibility of controlling how the LC divergent oscillation circuit affects the DC arc generated at the opening of the mechanical DC contacts. The Tri-axial high temperature superconducting (HTS) cable usually subjects to the impact of the fault currents in the power system. During the fault, a large amount of the Joule heat is generated, which may be damage cable. In this paper, an analysis model of electromagnetic thermal transient characteristics of the 10 kV/1 kA cable is built. The transient characteristics of the HTS cable are analyzed under a fault current of 15 kA rms lasting 0.14 s, and the current, resistance and temperature of the HTS cable are obtained. The maximum temperature of the HTS cable is 153.1 K under fault current. Meanwhile, the safe operating range of the HTS cable under the fault current of 15 kA to 25 kA is obtained. the analysis results will provide the theoretical basis for the quench protection and relay protection strategy of the tri-axial HTS cable in the Grid. White-box models are detailed models for the investigation of the internal behavior of transformers during dielectric design. A new model of this type with significantly improved characteristics is presented in this paper. The model has been developed in state-space form, which is more flexible than an equivalent circuit and also makes it possible to optionally hide proprietary information on internal voltages. The proposed parameter determination methodology is very robust and allows the adequate representation of the damping. The methodology for determining inductive impedances and capacitances as a function of frequency using the Finite Element Method is described first. Then the fitting of the impedances obtained in the frequency domain by means of rational approximation functions is presented, which is based on the Vector Fitting algorithm in combination with Particle Swarm Optimization. The state-space model is obtained next, which is then used to perform time and frequency domain calculations. The paper presents accurate and simple dynamic model of a supercapacitor bank system for power system dynamics studies. The proposed model is derived from a detailed RC circuit representation. Furthermore, a complete control system of the supercapacitor bank is also presented. The proposed model is easy to integrate in any power system simulation software and consists of only up to four standard datasheet parameters. The performance of the proposed model in grid frequency control and low-voltage ride through is illustrated on IEEE 14-bus test system in DIgSILENT PowerFactory. It is shown that in case of transient stability simulations the ideal (simplified) model of the supercapacitor can be used while in case of frequency control the ideal representation may not always be appropriate. The brushless excitation structure characteristics of the aviation wound-rotor synchronous starter/generator (WRSSG) put forward the requirement on the brushless exciter (BE) model that both the stator and rotor windings can be interfaced with the external circuit directly. In this paper, a double-side variable-parameter voltage-behind-reactance (DS-VP-VBR) model of the BE considering magnetic saturation was established firstly to realize the direct connection between the stator and rotor windings with external circuits. Then, a double-side constant-parameter VBR (DS-CP-VBR) model with completely decoupled RL circuit was developed through the algebraic transformation and numerical approximation from the DS-VP-VBR model. In order to further improve the model accuracy, the leakage inductance variation of the stator and rotor windings were also considered. The design of squirrel-cage induction motors (IMs) entails the capability to predict the motor efficiency map with high accuracy over an operating range. In particular, modeling harmonic rotor bar currents becomes important for loss analysis. In theory, it is possible to analyze an induction motor using time-stepping finite element analysis (TS-FEA); however, this is not viable due to computational limitations. To bridge this gap, we set forth a computationally efficient method that couples magnetostatic FEA with a qd-circuit model of the cage. The proposed IM model includes the effects of saturation, winding and slot harmonics, as well as nonuniform current density distribution in the rotor bars. The model is presented in two parts. Part I focuses on the formulation of a qd cage circuit model with segmented bars. Part II is a companion paper that proposes an FEA-based parameter estimation and a solution method. This is Part II of a paper that sets forth a computationally efficient method to estimate harmonic rotor bar currents in induction motors for accurate loss analysis. The method couples magnetostatic finite element analysis (FEA) and an extended-qd cage circuit model. In Part I, we formulated two subproblems for determining separate components of the induced rotor currents. Part II begins with details regarding the subproblem solution methods. Second, we set forth an FEA-based parameter estimation for the subproblems. As a solution for optimized, reliable and flexible operation of distribution systems, multiple AC microgrids can be interconnected. In this paper, a low-order low-frequency small-signal model is proposed for large-scale interconnected AC microgrids in order to analyze stability and dynamics as well as synthesize high-level controllers, e.g. inter-microgrid power flow controller. A sensitivity analysis-based technique is introduced to find significant modules of fully inverter-based AC microgrids for preserving the dominant low-frequency modes. The low-order model of AC microgrids including both droop-based and PQ-controlled distributed generation units is obtained by removing insignificant modules of the detailed model and reconfiguring the significant modules. The concept of virtual swing equation and the aggregation modeling method are employed to achieve a single-order model from the low-order model for each AC microgrid with any number of sources. The analysis and synthesis of the large-scale interconnected microgrids can easily be done using the proposed single-order model. The frequency analysis and control of three interconnected AC microgrids are presented as a case study, which leads to introducing the inter-microgrid oscillatory modes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

modular multilevel matrix converter (M3C) has considerable application potential in motor driving and power systems, but its phasor model is rarely studied. This paper proposes a novel method for modelling and analysis of the M3C in the phasor domain. Firstly, an improved phasor method in matrix form is proposed for direct AC/AC MMC family. By including the frequency information into the phasor expression, it is capable of analysis towards interaction between AC variable groups with different frequencies. Secondly, based on the proposed phasor matrix method, the concept of two-dimensional phase-sequence is proposed to facilitate description and calculation of the AC variables in the 3-by-3 matrix-resembled circuit structure of M3C. Network of each phase-sequence is also derived. With the proposed methods, calculation burden for modelling and analysis of the M3C is significantly reduced. Then, the phasor model of M3C considering the DC, fundamental frequency and 2nd-order harmonic components is established. Finally, validation results with time-domain simulation is provided.
