This paper investigates the Multilevel Current Source Converter (MCSC) STATCOM. It proposes a new method of modulation. The new modulation method produces less THD and di/dt at the terminals of the MCSC STATCOM when compared to the widely used Phase-Shifted Carrier SPWM (PSC-SPWM). To ensure the inductors' currents remain balanced, a Current Balancing Algorithm (CBA) is presented. The CBA does not require any controls. It relies on assigning optimum switching states to each CSC module in real-time. In addition, two control strategies are presented in this paper. The first one assumes the STATCOM to be a SISO. Therefore, it only requires one PI controller. However, the gains for the controller must be changed if the STATCOM was to transition from capacitive mode to inductive mode, or vice versa. The second control strategy overcomes this problem by implementing a TITO integral state feedback controller. The contributions of this paper are validated via simulation and experimental results. The pulse-width modulated (PWM) switching rectification that can achieve a high power factor (PF) for increasing the energy transfer efficiency between an LC resonator and a rectifier and voltage step-up and -down conversion is proposed for a wireless power transfer (WPT) receiver. The proposed method can emulate the switching rectifier as a resistive load by using an inductor and integrated phase synchronizers. Additionally, similar to a switched-inductor converter that controls the duty cycle ratio (D), the proposed PWM rectifier can control the output voltage VOUT when the input is a rectified, wirelessly coupled voltage instead of a constant voltage. Thus, unlike a conventional PWM switching rectifier for ac mains, an additional voltage conditioning circuit would not be needed after the proposed rectifier for WPT. The proposed PWM switching rectification is implemented in the AMS 0.18 μm 1.8 V/5 V CMOS process. PF = 1 is measured, indicating the most efficient energy transfer, compared to only 0.55–0.65 in a peak detection rectifier. Additionally, 88.2% of peak power conversion efficiency of the switching rectifier is achieved, and the maximum output power is 80.3 mW at 500 kHz of the WPT frequency. Photovoltaic (PV) systems containing a rechargeable battery as an energy buffer require multiple dc–dc converters for PV panel control and battery regulation, and hence, they are prone to be complex and costly. To simplify the system by reducing the number of converters, this paper proposes the nonisolated switched capacitor converter (SCC)-based multiport converter (SC-MPC) for standalone PV systems. The proposed SC-MPC can be derived by integrating a bidirectional pulsewidth modulation (PWM) converter, series-resonant converter (SRC), and an SCC with sharing switches. PWM and pulse frequency modulation (PFM) controls are employed for the PWM converter and SRC, respectively, to regulate either a battery voltage, output voltage, or input power from a PV panel, depending on power balance among the input, battery, and load. The 150-W prototype was built for an experimental verification, and the results demonstrated the output voltage could be regulated independently on the battery voltage or input port of PV panels. High step-down voltage conversion is necessary to bridge the voltage gap between main power converters and low-voltage auxiliary electronics in power conversion systems. Switched capacitor converters (SCCs) are an attractive candidate as a high step-down converter, but their poor voltage regulation capability may limit their applications. Pulsewidth modulation (PWM) SCCs with adjustable high step-down voltage conversion are proposed in this paper. The proposed PWM SCCs can be derived from traditional SCCs by replacing an energy transfer capacitor with a switched-capacitor-inductor (SCL) cell that comprises inductors, capacitors, and diodes to realize PWM-controllable voltage conversion. The voltage step-down ratio of the proposed PWM SCCs is not only PWM controllable but also adjustable with structures of SCCs and SCL cells. In this paper, a three-level quasi-switched boost T-type inverter (3L qSBT2I) is proposed. A new pulse-width modulated (PWM) control method is presented to reduce the inductor current ripple of the qSBT2 I. In the introduced PWM technique, the shoot-through duty cycle is maintained constant to keep the modulation index as high as possible. Then, the only control parameters of the qSBT2I are the duty cycles of the two additional switches. By controlling the duty cycles of the two additional switches, the voltage gain of the proposed qSBT2 I can be improved to a value larger than that of the conventional 3L impedance source inverters. The steady-state analysis, operating principles, and comparisons with the impedance source-based 3L inverters are presented. A 1-kW prototype is constructed to verify the operating principle of the 3L qSBT2I. This paper investigates a multilevel inverter composed of series/parallel-connected H-bridges. The presented structure can be used for applications in which the use of semiconductor switches with low-voltage and low-current ratings is intended. A comprehensive system model, an overall control strategy to adjust the output voltage with constant magnitude and frequency, and a level-shifted PWM (LS-PWM) strategy based on a voltage vectors unidimensional analysis and a plane analysis are presented. The LS-PWM is capable of mitigating the low-frequency circulating current, thus generating multilevel voltage signals with low harmonic distortion, maximum number of levels, and low dv/dt. In addition, considering a wide range of values of voltages and currents and various power levels, the total converter losses are reduced compared with the conventional multilevel converters. Two multilevel conventional inverters with the same number of semiconductor switches are used for comparison. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of the studied converter. Single-stage power-factor-corrected (S2PFC) power supplies usually suffer from high voltage stress, due to lack of control on the intermediate bus capacitor voltage. In the past, analysis of such voltage stress was mostly based on steady-state condition without providing sufficient explanation during the transient circuit operation. This paper revisits the problem at circuit level and reports that the root cause is due to the inherent negative current feedback property of the output inductor or the transformer operating in continuous conduction mode (CCM). Based on the finding, this paper further proposes a new approach to reducing the voltage stress by adding an auxiliary circuit branch to existing S2PFC converters. The additional circuit branch limits the effect of negative current feedback by suppressing the change of output current slope due to change of load. This assists the pulsewidth modulation controller to track the change of load better such that the bus capacitor voltage range is reduced through duty cycle control. The auxiliary circuit branch also reduces reverse-recovery-related losses of the converter under CCM operation. Conventional zero-voltage and zero-current-switching (ZVZCS) full-bridge converters are widely used because they can realize zero-voltage switching (ZVS) for the leading leg and zero-current switching (ZCS) for the lagging leg. However, the large turn-off loss of the leading leg is still unacceptable in high-voltage high-power applications where insulated-gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) with current tailing are employed. Hence, it is preferable to achieve ZCS for all IGBTs of full-bridge converters. This paper analyzes the ZCS conditions for pulsewidth modulated (PWM) full-bridge converters and proposes a general strategy for achieving ZCS for main switches, including the control strategy and design method of the topology. Based on this theory, a novel ZCS PWM full-bridge converter with simple auxiliary circuit is derived and tested. It can achieve ZCS not only for the main switches of full-bridge converter, but for the auxiliary switch as well, and obtain high efficiency. This paper extends the trans-Z-source concept to ac–ac power conversion and proposes a novel single-phase trans-Z-source ac–ac converter. The proposed converter retains the advantages of its existing Z-source/quasi-Z-source counterparts in which the output voltage can be boosted and in-phase with the input voltage or bucked/boosted and out-of-phase with the input voltage. Meanwhile, a coupled inductor is introduced into the proposed converter, and the turns ratio of the coupled inductor become another control variable beside the duty cycle to obtain extreme voltage gain. Importantly, the input voltage and output voltage share the same ground, and the input current could be continuous, which is a benefit for reducing input current harmonics. Most important of all, the safe-commutation strategy for the proposed converter is deep developed, and analytic expression between the switches state and loop circuit voltage/current condition is derived out. Hence, the current/voltage ripple can be avoided without a loss snubber circuit, which benefits a reduced cost and enhanced reliability. The performance analysis is discussed in consideration of parasitic resistance, and system parameter design is optimized based on theoretic calculation. This paper proposes a pulse width modulation plus phase-shift (PPS) control for nonisolated high gain soft-switching bidirectional dc–dc converter (HSBDC). The phase-shift angle is used to control the direction and amount of power flow of the bidirectional dc–dc converter, while the duty cycle is used to balance the voltage between two high voltage side (HVS) capacitors. The HSBDC with PPS control has the advantages of simple control structure and symmetrical switching patterns, ensured soft-switching in both forward and backward modes at all load under wide voltage range, and reduced voltage ratings of the HVS capacitors and switches. The operation principle of the HSBDC with PPS control is analyzed in detail. Based on the analysis the passive component is designed to achieve higher efficiency. This paper introduces series work of common-mode (CM) voltage reduction for the paralleled inverters. The paralleled inverters’ phase-legs are connected through coupling inductors and the combined three-phase currents are provided to the load. Interleaving is an approach to reduce the CM voltage for the paralleled inverters but it cannot eliminate CM voltage. A novel pulse-width-modulation (PWM) method for paralleled inverters which can theoretically achieve zero CM voltage is developed. Considering the basic voltage vectors in each inverter, novel paralleled voltage vectors which have zero CM voltage are proposed to combine the reference voltage vector. The action time's distribution and voltage vectors’ sending sequence for each inverter are also introduced. The proposed PWM method can make sure the voltage of the two inverters are balanced in each switching cycle and limits the circulating current through small coupling inductors. Similar to interleaving space vector PWM, the proposed zero CM PWM also has the ability to reduce the output current ripple and electromagnetic interference (EMI). Simulation and experimental results are provided to show the advantage of paralleled inverters in CM voltage reduction and validate the proposed method has good performance to reduce CM current and CM EMI noise. The parallel three-phase grid-connected converters sharing dc and ac bus can increase the system power level effectively. However, the circulating current will occur inevitably. The existing studies primarily focus on dc, fundamental, and low-frequency circulating current. The high-frequency circulating current (HFCC) caused by asynchronous carriers is studied emphatically in this paper, which is based on the analysis of the change of circulating current in one control cycle. A novel method to suppress HFCC caused by asynchronous carriers of modules is proposed. In this method, the carrier period of slave module is adjustable and the carrier period of the master module is constant. When a large phase shift between modules occurs, an adjusting cycle is inserted to carrier of slave module to realize resynchronizing with master module. It is noted that there is no other commutation between the two modules (expect the dq current reference), such as the carrier information. To prevent partial-shading issues in photovoltaic (PV) systems, various kinds of voltage equalizers that virtually unify characteristics of shaded and unshaded modules have been proposed. Although PV string utilization can be dramatically improved, PV systems tend to be complex and costly because, in addition to the main converter for string control, voltage equalizers are separately necessary. This paper proposes the single-switch single-magnetic pulse width modulation (PWM) converter integrating the voltage equalizer using the series-resonant voltage multiplier (SRVM) for standalone PV systems. By utilizing a square wave voltage generated across a filter inductor in a PWM buck converter for driving the SRVM, the main PWM converter and voltage equalizer can be integrated into a single unit with reducing the total switch and magnetic component counts, achieving not only system-level but also circuit-level simplifications. The experimental test using the prototype for three PV modules connected in series was performed emulating a partial-shading condition. Paralleling power converters is a common practice in industries to enhance total power rating, reliability, and availability of the system. In case of fault occurring in systems with parallel converters, the faulty power converter can be isolated and the system can still be operated at reduced power level. In this paper, a grid-connected power converter consisting of two parallel H-bridge converters with low ground leakage current is considered. Two contingency configurations, that are also of low ground leakage current, are proposed to enhance the availability of the system. This is done by reconfiguring the power circuit to a single H-bridge in the case of failure in one of the bridges. The power converter is experimentally tested with the proposed configurations for experimental validation. Dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) technology has become a mature power quality product. In high-power applications, DVR using a multilevel converter is commonly used. However, DVR using a multilevel direct pulse width modulation (PWM) ac–ac converter has not been well studied. This paper presents a new DVR topology using a cascaded multilevel direct PWM ac–ac converter. In the proposed scheme, the unit cell of the multilevel converter consists of a single-phase PWM ac-ac converter using switching cell structure with coupled inductors. Therefore, the multilevel converter can be short- and open-circuited without damaging the switching devices. Neither lossy RC snubber nor a dedicated soft commutation strategy is required in the proposed DVR. This improves the reliability of the DVR system. The output voltage levels of the multilevel converter increase with the number of cascaded unit cells, and a high ac output voltage is obtained by using low-voltage-rating switching devices. Furthermore, a phase-shifted PWM technique is applied to significantly reduce the size of the output filter inductor. The positive output elementary superlift-Luo converter (POESLLC) is a type of dc/dc converter. This dc/dc converter has an attractive advantage of a high voltage transfer gain as compared with other conventional dc/dc converters. Because of the voltage and load variations and also switching operation, the dynamic and static performances of the POESLLC are nonlinear and time varying. In order to achieve an excellent performance, a nonlinear controller is required. In this paper, a robust and fast response controller for voltage regulation of a POESLLC is presented. A proportional integral and pulse width modulation sliding mode controller are combined to control a third-order POESLLC. The proposed controller can be applied in the continuous conduction mode. Some simulations and experimental results are presented to show the effectiveness of the developed controller in different operating conditions. Furthermore, it will be shown that the developed controller is successful in suppressing the steady-state error of the output voltage of the POESLLC as well as the number of reduction of sensors. This paper proposes a current-fed isolated bidirectional dc–dc converter (CF-IBDC) that has the advantages of wide input voltage range, low input current ripple, low conduction losses, and soft switching over the full operating range. Compared with conventional CF-IBDCs, the voltage spikes of the low-voltage (LV) side switches in the proposed converter can be eliminated without additional clamp circuits. The converter adopts the pulse width modulation plus hybrid phase-shift control scheme such that the bus voltage can match the output voltage by means of the transformer. Thus, the current stresses and conduction losses of the converter become lower. In addition, the practical zero voltage switching (ZVS) of the secondary-side switches can be realized by adjusting the phase-shift angle within the secondary side when in light load or no load condition. A fixed-frequency pulse width modulation (PWM) controlled bidirectional current-fed series-resonant converter is proposed in this paper. The proposed bidirectional resonant converter is derived based on integration of a bidirectional boost/buck converter and a dual-active-bridge series-resonant converter. The most attractive feature of the proposed bidirectional resonant converter is that its voltage gain is only determined by the duty cycle of primary-side switches and has nothing to do with the transferred power. Therefore, the direction and amplitude of the transferred power can be easily regulated continuously and smoothly. In addition, with the help of an auxiliary inductor, zero voltage switching can be achieved for all the active switches on both primary and secondary sides within the entire operation range. Furthermore, the converter is suitable for wide voltage applications because its voltage gain can be regulated in a wide range. The operational principles and characteristics of the proposed bidirectional resonant converter are analyzed in detail. A nonisolated single-stage on-board charger for electric vehicles has been proposed to increase system efficiency and power density in previous works. However, its ability to achieve high efficiency is limited by variations in the electric utility and battery, especially during the step-down operation. This paper proposes an advanced control algorithm that improves system efficiency in the step-down mode by controlling each switch asymmetrically using a phase-shift control. The proposed algorithm consists of only one controller, which prevents transient states from causing variations in the controller. The algorithm decreases the magnitude and ripple of the inductor current, which improves the charging efficiency by approximately 4.1% over at the 3.7-kW full load that of the conventional algorithm in the step-down mode, and measured total harmonic distortion and power factor are 3.2% and 0.995, respectively. Primary-side controlled universal-line flyback converters have been widely used in low-power applications due to their simplicity, low standby power, and low cost. However, conventional OCP schemes normally cause too large a variation in output current when the input voltage varies. This paper proposes a self-compensating OCP circuit to achieve a high-precision constant current at different input voltages which can be used in flyback converters working in discontinues conduction mode. It consists of a CS S/H circuit and a dynamic OCP voltage reference circuit. Compared with conventional OCP circuits, it does not need an extra compensation circuit. To verify the feasibility and performance of the proposed circuit, an IC controller that uses the proposed OCP circuit has been designed and fabricated in 0.35 μm 5-V/40-V high-voltage CMOS technology. Experimental results show that the constant output current precision of the prototype is within ±1% when the input line voltage changes from 85 to 265 Vac. This paper identifies the characteristics of a current source inverter operating in discontinuous conduction mode, and proposes a new multiobjective pulse-width modulation (PWM) method to mitigate voltage boosting and harmonic distortion effects. The method takes into account load impedance effects. Controls are also developed to enable transition between the multiobjective PWM method and conventional PWM as the current source inverter operates in discontinuous and continuous modes of operation. This paper presents an average current mode buck dimmable light-emitting diode (LED) driver for large-scale single-string LED backlighting applications. The proposed integrated current control technique can provide exact current control signals by using an autozeroed integrator to enhance the accuracy of the average current of LEDs while driving a large number of LEDs. Adoption of discontinuous low-side current sensing leads to power loss reduction. Adoption of a fast-settling technique allows the LED driver to enter into the steady state within three switching cycles after the dimming signal is triggered. Implemented in a 0.35-μm HV CMOS process, the proposed LED driver achieves 1.7% LED current error and 98.16% peak efficiency over an input voltage range of 110 to 200 V while driving 30 to 50 LEDs. A family of isolated buck–boost dc/dc converter for wide input-voltage range is proposed in this paper, and the full-bridge (FB) boost converter, being one of the typical topologies, is analyzed. Due to the existence of the resonant inductor (including the leakage inductor), the FB-boost converter can only adopt the two-edge-modulation (TEM) scheme with the FB cell being leading-edge modulated and the boost cell being trailing-edge modulated to minimize the inductor current ripple over the input-voltage range, and a phase-shift-control-scheme-based TEM with the use of the market available controller IC such as UC3895 is proposed, which realizes phase-shifted control for the FB cell to achieve zero-voltage switching. In order to improve the reliability and efficiency of the FB-boost converter, a three-mode dual-frequency control scheme is proposed, in which the FB-boost converter operates in boost, FB-boost and FB modes in low, medium and high input voltage regions, respectively, and for which the expression of the inductor current ripple is derived in this paper. As the input voltage in the FB-boost mode is close to the output voltage, the inductor current ripple in this mode is much smaller than that in the other modes, and the switching frequency of the boost cell in this mode can be lowered to one-(2N+1)th of the preset switching frequency to reduce the switching loss, and hence, to improve the efficiency. A 250–500 V input, 360 V output, and 6 kW rated power prototype is fabricated to verify the effectiveness of the design and control method. This paper presents a single-phase power factor corrector based on a tapped-inductor buck–boost converter. This paper suggests simplified models of the power stage under current-mode control and derives small-signal transfer functions of both the current and voltage control loops. Design rules for implementation of the proposed power factor corrector (PFC) are also suggested. The proposed PFC features low dc bus voltage, arbitrary lower than the peak line voltage. The proposed PFC is suitable for applications in computers and communications, where dc isolation can be provided by the downstream dc/dc converters. Semiactive quadrupler rectifiers (SAQRs) are proposed in this paper to serve as the secondary rectification circuits, which make the secondary-side voltages to be controllable and help reduce current stress and conduction losses. An interleaved isolated boost converter is developed based on the proposed SAQRs. By utilizing the pulse-width modulation (PWM) plus phase-shift (PPS) control strategy, the primary- and secondary-side voltages are well matched to reduce the current values and circulating conduction losses. With the proposed SAQRs, the voltage gain is extended and the voltage stresses on power devices and passive components used in rectification circuits are reduced to the half of the high output voltage. Hence, the efficiency is improved by using a transformer with a smaller turns ratio and reduced parasitic parameters, and by employing low-voltage rating devices with better switching and conduction performance. With optimal design, lower voltage, and current stresses on the primary-side switches, minimized input current ripple can be realized. Moreover, the zero-voltage turn on switching of the active switches and the zero-current turn off switching of the diodes can be achieved over a wide load and voltage range by the proposed SAQR-based converter and the control strategy. Meanwhile, the higher voltage gain, the lower voltage, and the current stresses on power devices can be obtained with the proposed SAQR-based converter compared with passive quadrupler rectifier-based converter. It is known that the ripple-based control of a switching dc–dc converter benefits from a faster transient response than a conventional pulse width modulation (PWM) control switching dc–dc converter. However, ripple-based control switching dc–dc converters may suffer from fast-scale oscillation. In order to achieve fast transient response and ensure the stable operation of a switching dc–dc converter over a wide load range, based on a conventional pulse train (PT) control technique, a peak capacitor current PT (PCC-PT) control technique is proposed in this paper. With a buck converter as an example, the operating modes, steady-state performance, and transient respond performance of a PCC-PT controlled buck converter are presented and assessed. To eliminate fast-scale oscillation, circuit and control parameter design considerations are given. An accurate discrete iteration model of a PCC-PT controlled buck converter is established, based on which the effects of circuit parameters on the stability of the converter operating in a discontinuous current mode (DCM), mixed DCM-continuous conduction mode (CCM), and CCM are studied. Carrier-based pulsewidth-modulation (CBPWM) techniques are popular due to their simplicity, and have been widely researched for various three-phase inverter configurations. In this paper, two CBPWM techniques are proposed to reduce the common-mode (CM) voltage generated by the five-phase inverter. The five-phase inverters have more flexibility in reducing the CM voltage than their three-phase counterparts because they have more phase legs, hence finer control over the star-point voltage of the load. Two methods are proposed for the conventional two-level five-phase inverter to reduce the CM voltage; one utilizing adjacent modulating waveforms and the other utilizing nonadjacent modulating waveforms. The coupled inductor inverter (CII) uses coupled inductors to generate multilevel outputs. As the volt-second balance must be maintained across each coupled inductor, direct application of the proposed methods on the CII inverter will result in overcurrents in the coupled inductors. Hence, the proposed methods are further improved to ensure the volt-second integral over each switching period is zero. Moreover, the two proposed methods are designed to reduce switching events and prevent unexpected states occurring during the switching transitions. The three-level boost power factor correction (PFC) converter has advantages of lower inductor current ripple and lower switch withstanding voltage compared with the boost PFC converter. Interleaved pulsewidth modulation had been used in the multiphase boost PFC converter. In the literature, interleaved current sensorless control (ICSC) for the multiphase boost PFC converters had been proposed. In this paper, the behavior of the three-level boost PFC converter is first analyzed. The results show that three-level converter has the same average equation as the interleaved boost PFC converter. Then, ICSC is modified for the three-level boost PFC converter with considering the voltage imbalance and the zero-crossing current distortion. The proposed modified ICSC (MICSC) is implemented in a field-programmable gate array board. Simulation results and experimental results are also provided to validate the proposed MICSC. This paper proposes a new modulated carrier control method for an interleaved continuous conduction mode (CCM) power factor correction (PFC) boost converter. The proposed method allows precise sinusoidal line current shaping for a PFC boost converter operating in CCM. This is accomplished by simply comparing modulated carrier signal with switch current, such that inner current loop compensation design and rectified line voltage sensing are not required. The proposed control method greatly simplifies current sensing and control circuitry of multiphase converters since average current control is available by just sensing the switch current for each module. This also enables simple current balancing between parallel converters by employing modulated carrier signals with same amplitude. The principle of the control method is presented. The performance of the proposed control method is experimentally verified on a 600-W PFC converter. The measured power factor remains above 94.9% down to 20% of a full load for 110-Vrms and 220-Vrms line voltages. The line current harmonics also meet the IEC61000-3-2 Class D standard. The propagation delay of a comparator and dead time causes the duty-discontinuity region near the boundary of the step-down and step-up regions in a non-inverting buck–boost (NIBB) converter. The duty-discontinuity region leads to an unstable output voltage and an unpredictable output voltage ripple, which might cause the entire power system to shut down. In this paper, a mode-transition technique called duty-lock control is proposed for a digitally controlled NIBB converter. It locks the duty cycle and eliminates the error between the output voltage and the reference signal by using a proposed fixed reference scheme that ensures the stability of the digital controller and output voltage. The experimental results that were applied to a field-programmable gate array-based platform revealed that the output voltage of the NIBB converter is stable throughout the entire transition region, without any efficiency tradeoffs. The input voltage of the converter that was provided by a Li-ion battery was 2.7–4.2 V, and the output voltage was 1.0–3.6 V, which is suitable for radio-frequency power amplifiers. This paper proposes the pulsewidth modulation (PWM) strategy of Z-source inverters (ZSIs) with minimum inductor current ripple. In existing PWM strategy with single-phase shoot-through, the shoot-through time interval is divided into six equal parts, therefore the three phase legs bear the equal shoot-through time interval. In this manner, the allotment and arrangement of the shoot-through state is easy to realize, but the inductor current ripple is not optimized. This causes to use relatively large inductors. In the proposed PWM strategy, the shoot-through time intervals of three phase legs are calculated and rearranged according to the active state and zero state time intervals to achieve the minimum current ripple across the Z-source inductor, while maintaining the same total shoot-through time interval. The principle of the proposed PWM strategy is analyzed in detail, and the comparison of current ripple under the traditional and proposed PWM strategy is given. This paper proposes a novel nonisolated flyback switching capacitor voltage regulator. The converter is a combination of a switching capacitor converter and a pulsewidth modulation voltage regulator, and it has the following advantages: 1) the switches achieve zero voltage switching (ZVS); 2) the self-driven method of the synchronous rectifier (SR) is applied to save the drive loss and the body diode conduction loss; 3) the transformer leakage inductor is utilized to realize the soft switching of the switches; and 4) single-phase option makes it more flexible. This paper presents the ac small-signal modeling of the power stage of pulsewidth-modulated Z-source converter in continuous conduction mode by the circuit-averaging technique. The small-signal models used to derive the open-loop power-stage input voltage-to-capacitor voltage, input voltage-to-inductor current, control-to-capacitor voltage, and control-to-inductor current transfer functions are derived. Open-loop power-stage transfer functions corresponding to the capacitor voltage loop and inductor current loop are derived. The transfer functions derived take into account the equivalent series resistances of the inductors and capacitors. Experimental validation of the derived small-signal models is presented for a laboratory prototype. The theoretical predictions are in good agreement with the experimental results. In this paper, an improved pulse width modulation (PWM) method for chopper-cell (or half-bridge)based modular multilevel converters (MMCs) is proposed. This method can generate an output voltage with maximally 2N+1 (where N is the number of submodules in the upper or lower arm of MMC) levels, which is as great as that of the carrier-phase-shifted PWM (CPSPWM) method. However, no phase-shifted carrier is needed. Compared with the existing submodule unified pulse width modulated (SUPWM) method, the level number of the output voltage is almost doubled and the height of the step in the staircase voltage is reduced by 50%. Meanwhile, the equivalent switching frequency in the output voltage is twice that of the conventional SUPWM method. All these features lead to much reduced harmonic content in the output voltage. What is more, the voltages of the submodule capacitors can be well balanced without any close-loop voltage balancing controllers which are mandatory in the CPSPWM schemes. Multiport dc/dc converters are widely employed in hybrid energy generation systems to provide stable power to key loads with high power density. In this paper, the switch duty cycle and the phase angle of the interleaved converters are employed as two control freedoms to achieve decoupled voltage regulation within a certain operating range among different ports, which is referred to as pulsewidth modulation plus phase angle shift (PPAS) control scheme. An interleaved bidirectional buck-boost converter and a full-bridge converter are integrated together to derive a combined three-port dc/dc converter for photovoltaic (PV)-battery hybrid energy systems, which is adopted as a typical example to explore the clear performance of the proposed PPAS control strategy. The bidirectional buck-boost converter and the full-bridge converter share the same power MOSFETs in the primary side, which simplifies the circuit structure and improves the power density. The duty cycle of the interleaved bidirectional buck-boost converter is adopted to realize the maximum power point tracking and the voltage balance between the battery and the PV cell in the primary side. Furthermore, the phase angle of the interleaved buck-boost converter is employed as another control freedom to achieve accurate secondary output voltage regulation. A simple current sharing control technique for the switching power supply is presented herein, whose basic concept is that the control effort created from the voltage loop is finely tuned by the control effort created from the current sharing loop based on the proposed phase link so as not only to obtain the desired output voltage but also to make the load current distributed among phases as evenly as possible. Such a control method is not only without any current sharing bus as compared with the traditional current sharing methods, but also suitable for multiple phases under the condition that any one phase among multiple phases fails. Moreover, based on phase link, there is no divider used, as compared with the traditional average current method, and hence, the number of logic elements in the field-programmable gate array (FPGA) can be reduced. In this paper, the detailed basic operating principles, together with new mathematical deductions based on the superposition concept, are firstly described, and secondly some experimental results, based on the FPGA to realize the fully digitalized control of the overall system using one-comparator counter-based sampling without any analog-to-digital converter (ADC), are provided to verify the effectiveness of proposed control strategy. A novel winding-coupled bidirectional dc/dc converter with zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) performance is proposed in this paper. In the low-voltage side, the parallel configuration is employed to share the large current and reduce the current ripple. In the high-voltage side, the series structure is adopted to sustain the high bus voltage and achieve large voltage ratio conversion. There are only two coupled inductors in the proposed interleaved bidirectional converter and their secondary windings are in series to serve as winding-coupled inductors. Furthermore, the two winding-coupled inductors can be integrated into a magnetic core to reduce the passive component numbers and improve the power density. Moreover, ZVS soft-switching operation is implemented for all the power switches to minimize the switching losses by introducing the active clamp scheme. In addition, the pulsewidth modulation plus phase-shift control strategy is employed to reduce the power MOSFET peak current and diminish the circulating losses. The duty cycle is applied to balance the voltages of both sides. The phase-shift angle is introduced to realize the power flow regulation. This decoupling control strategy is advantageous for bidirectional dc/dc conversion to realize high efficiency. Finally, a 1-kW prototype is built to verify the effectiveness of the proposed circuit.
