Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are widely used in street lighting, landscape lighting, liquid crystal display (LCD) backlighting, healthcare, etc. As an important part of LED lighting products, LED driver plays a vital role in maintenance costs reduction, energy saving and lifetime prolongation. In this paper, a single-stage LED driver is proposed, which is integrated by a totem-pole bridgeless power factor correction (PFC) unit and several modular LCL-T resonant rectifiers. The totem-pole bridgeless PFC unit and the LCL-T resonant rectifiers are integrated by sharing switches, which can simplify the circuit and reduce the system cost. The output current can be regulated by applying the variable inductor control. Constant duty cycle and fixed switching frequency operation can be achieved as well. The operating principle and the performance of the proposed converter are analyzed in this paper. In addition, a precise parameter design method is proposed by considering the high-order harmonics. Photovoltaic (PV) systems having rechargeable batteries are prone to be complex and costly because multiple converters are necessary to individually regulate a load, PV panel, and battery. This paper proposes novel nonisolated multiport converters (MPCs) integrating a bidirectional pulsewidth modulation (PWM) converter and phase-shift-switched capacitor converter (PS-SCC) for standalone PV systems. A PWM converter and PS-SCC are integrated by reducing the total switch count, realizing the simplified system and circuit. In the proposed MPCs, two control freedoms of duty cycle and phase shift angle are manipulated to individually regulate the load, PV panel, and/or battery. The detailed operation analysis was performed to mathematically derive gain characteristics and zero voltage switching operation boundaries. For the battery discharging mode, in which the PV panel is not available and the MPC behaves as a single-input–single-output converter with two control freedoms available, the optimized control scheme achieving the lowest rms current is also proposed to maximize power conversion efficiencies. Various kinds of experimental verification tests using a 200-W prototype were performed to verify the theoretical analysis and to demonstrate the performance of the proposed MPC. A novel PWM full bridge (FB) dc–dc converter for large power industrial applications is proposed in this paper. The soft switching mode of the primary switches can be varied under different input and output conditions to achieve optimum system efficiency. In the zero-voltage and zero-current switching (ZVZCS) mode, the turn-on and turn-off switching loss can be optimized because the soft switching conditions of the turn-on and turn-off instants are well decoupled. In the zero-voltage switching (ZVS) mode, the turn-off switching loss can also be optimized because there is no requirement for light load operation in this mode. Four mosfets with ultra-low on-state resistance are used, thus, the added conduction loss is small. The auxiliary mosfets with high switching frequency are turned on with zero-current and off with zero-voltage, hence, the added switching loss can also be neglected. Furthermore, some drawbacks of the conventional ZVS and ZVZCS converters, e.g., narrow ZVS load range, high primary circulating current, incomplete reset of the primary current, and unreasonable VA rating of the added components, have been well solved. This paper proposes a new bidirectional three-phase push–pull converter that has a simple structure and achieves zero-voltage switching turn-on of switches. Also, due to use of a single inductor, an imbalance among phase currents on the low-voltage high-current side is trivial in the proposed converter although no current sharing control is employed. In this paper, a new dual asymmetrical pulse width modulation (PWM) switching method is proposed for bidirectional power flow control with seamless mode change. The proposed switching method offers reduced circulating current and makes the converter easier to implement compared to the PWM plus phase shift-based control method since it is a general PWM method having two independent duty cycle controls on each side. Conventional zero-voltage and zero-current-switching (ZVZCS) full-bridge converters are widely used because they can realize zero-voltage switching (ZVS) for the leading leg and zero-current switching (ZCS) for the lagging leg. However, the large turn-off loss of the leading leg is still unacceptable in high-voltage high-power applications where insulated-gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) with current tailing are employed. Hence, it is preferable to achieve ZCS for all IGBTs of full-bridge converters. This paper analyzes the ZCS conditions for pulsewidth modulated (PWM) full-bridge converters and proposes a general strategy for achieving ZCS for main switches, including the control strategy and design method of the topology. Based on this theory, a novel ZCS PWM full-bridge converter with simple auxiliary circuit is derived and tested. It can achieve ZCS not only for the main switches of full-bridge converter, but for the auxiliary switch as well, and obtain high efficiency. Soft switching pulse-width modulation (PWM) dc–dc full-bridge converter with controlled rectifier on the secondary side of the high-frequency power transformer is presented in this paper. An active secondary switch, including new nondissipative passive energy recovery turn-off snubber on the secondary side and modified PWM control algorithm, provide conditions for zero-voltage and zero-current turn-on and zero-current turn-off of IGBT transistors on the primary side of the high-frequency dc–dc converter. The simple passive energy recovery snubber ensures also zero-voltage turn-off of the transistor on the secondary side of the power transformer. In this paper, a new zero-voltage switching and resonant core reset pulse width modulation forward converter with a simple auxiliary circuit is introduced. The proposed auxiliary circuit can be applied to both single-switch and two-switch forward converters. The main and the auxiliary mosfets of the proposed converters operate under soft switching condition independent of line and load variation. Also, due to the capability of operating at duty cycles higher than 0.5, the proposed converters can be used for wide input voltage applications. In comparison to the existing zero-voltage transition (ZVT) forward converters, this auxiliary circuit has low number of components and also does not require any additional magnetic element which has improved the power density. The proposed converter is compared with exiting ZVT forward converters in details. The converter steady-state operation is analyzed and various operating modes are explained. Also, in addition to a design example, a comprehensive design procedure is presented. The experimental results of a laboratory prototype of the converter with 85–180 V input voltage and 24 V output voltage at 150 W are provided which verify the theoretical analysis and confirm the converter operation. This paper first starts with reviewing several commonly practiced PWM schemes for the three-phase isolated buck matrix-type rectifier. Then, an optimal six-segment PWM scheme (“Type A”) is proposed. The analysis shows “Type A” PWM scheme has lower duty-cycle loss, maximum output inductor current ripple, and minimum switching loss comparing with other PWM schemes when the mosfet devices are employed. In addition, a low input current total harmonic distortion (THD) can be achieved with duty-cycle compensation. Finally, the steady-state analysis of duty-cycle loss, inductor current ripple, and THD are all compared and verified by the experimental results for “Type A” PWM and eight-segment PWM (“Type E”). This paper proposes a current-fed isolated bidirectional dc–dc converter (CF-IBDC) that has the advantages of wide input voltage range, low input current ripple, low conduction losses, and soft switching over the full operating range. Compared with conventional CF-IBDCs, the voltage spikes of the low-voltage (LV) side switches in the proposed converter can be eliminated without additional clamp circuits. The converter adopts the pulse width modulation plus hybrid phase-shift control scheme such that the bus voltage can match the output voltage by means of the transformer. Thus, the current stresses and conduction losses of the converter become lower. In addition, the practical zero voltage switching (ZVS) of the secondary-side switches can be realized by adjusting the phase-shift angle within the secondary side when in light load or no load condition. A fixed-frequency pulse width modulation (PWM) controlled bidirectional current-fed series-resonant converter is proposed in this paper. The proposed bidirectional resonant converter is derived based on integration of a bidirectional boost/buck converter and a dual-active-bridge series-resonant converter. The most attractive feature of the proposed bidirectional resonant converter is that its voltage gain is only determined by the duty cycle of primary-side switches and has nothing to do with the transferred power. Therefore, the direction and amplitude of the transferred power can be easily regulated continuously and smoothly. In addition, with the help of an auxiliary inductor, zero voltage switching can be achieved for all the active switches on both primary and secondary sides within the entire operation range. Furthermore, the converter is suitable for wide voltage applications because its voltage gain can be regulated in a wide range. The operational principles and characteristics of the proposed bidirectional resonant converter are analyzed in detail. A new soft-switching pulse-width-modulated (PWM) full-bridge converter is proposed in this paper. This paper proposes a pulse-width modulation three-level converter with reduced filter size using two transformers. The proposed converter has many advantages. All switches sustain only the half of the input voltage and since the secondary rectified voltage is a three-level waveform, the output filter inductor can be reduced. Also, because of the power sharing of transformer and reduced output inductor, high efficiency can be obtained. This paper presents the design, modeling, and control of an isolated dc-dc three-port converter (TPC) based on an interleaved-boost full-bridge converter with pulsewidth modulation (PWM) and phase-shift control for hybrid renewable energy systems. In the proposed topology, the switches are driven by phase-shifted PWM signals, where both phase angle and duty cycle are the controlled variables. The power flow between the two inputs is controlled through the duty cycle, whereas the output voltage can be regulated effectively through the phase shift. The primary-side MOSFETs can achieve zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) operation without additional circuitry. Additionally, due to the ac output inductor, the secondary-side diodes can operate under zero-current-switching (ZCS) conditions. In this study, the operation principles of the converter are analyzed and the critical design considerations are discussed. The dynamic behavior of the proposed ac-inductor-based TPC is investigated by performing state-space modeling. Moreover, the derived mathematical models are validated by simulation and measurements. In order to verify the validity of the theoretical analysis, design, and power decoupling control scheme, a prototype is constructed and tested under the various modes, depending on the availability of the renewable energy source and the load consumption. This paper introduces a combination of two proposed efficiency improvement techniques for a microinverter with current mode control zero-voltage switching output stages. The first technique is dynamic dead-time optimization wherein pulse width modulation dead times are dynamically adjusted as a function of load current. The second method is advanced phase skipping control which maximizes inverter efficiency by controlling power on individual phases depending on the available input power from the photovoltaic source. Neither of the techniques requires any additional circuit components and both can be easily implemented in digital controller firmware. The two techniques were designed and implemented in a 400-W three-phase microinverter prototype. The experimental results validate the theoretical analysis of these techniques and demonstrate that a significant efficiency improvement can be achieved by combining the two proposed control techniques. A new zero-voltage-switched bidirectional dc–dc converter with coupled inductors is proposed in the paper. The proposed converter can operate with a steep conversion ratio, soft switching, a continuous inductor current, and fixed switching frequency. It can also operate with the switch stresses of a conventional pulsewidth-modulation-tapped/coupled-inductor converter regardless of the direction of power flow and without any voltage spikes across the switches during turn-OFF. These features are due to a very simple auxiliary circuit that is operational regardless of the direction of power flow and absorbs energy from the leakage inductance of the coupled inductors during switch turn-OFF. A zero-voltage switching (ZVS) grid-connected full-bridge inverter and its modulation schemes are investigated. A novel sinusoidal pulse width modulation scheme for the ZVS full-bridge inverter (ZVS SPWM) is proposed in this paper. The ZVS SPWM is evolved from the double-frequency SPWM by adding gate drive to the auxiliary switch. The ZVS condition is analyzed and the circulation loss of the resonant branch is optimized by adjusting the energy storage in the resonant inductor. The reverse recovery of the body-diode of MOSFET is relieved and ZVS is realized for both main and auxiliary switches. The filter inductors are significantly reduced with higher switching frequency. The design guideline of resonant parameters and the implementation of ZVS SPWM in DSP controller are introduced. The ZVS SPWM scheme is verified on a 3-kW inverter prototype. A novel active soft switched phase-shifted full-bridge (PSFB) dc-dc converter is presented in this paper. An auxiliary circuit is added to the pulse width modulation counterpart to achieve the soft switching. The proposed circuit achieves soft switching for both main and auxiliary switches, without increasing the main device current/voltage rating. The auxiliary circuit is gated appropriately in order to achieve zero voltage switching for lagging leg. Tapping in the primary winding of power transformer is added for the purpose of commutation. The proposed circuit is capable of operating at elevated switching frequencies of several hundreds of kilohertz in a range of line and load variations. Steady-state analysis and evaluation of losses for the proposed circuit is presented. Analytical models valid for steady state and dynamic performance are proposed. A 350-W, 100-kHz active soft switched PSFB dc-dc converter prototype is implemented. The proposed analytical models are validated experimentally on 350-W prototype. This paper proposes a high-frequency-link soft-switching pulse-width modulated dc-dc converter for electric vehicle (EV) on-board battery chargers. Zero-voltage switching of power switches is achieved from light load to full load. Reverse-recovery losses can be reduced in the secondary side output diodes without using any additional circuit components. Zero-current switching of output diodes is achieved by using the series-resonant circuit in the secondary side. The circulating current in the primary side full-bridge circuit can be changed by the operation modes of the output diode current. As a result, a high efficiency can be achieved for EV on-board battery chargers. The performance of the proposed converter is evaluated throughout experimental results for a 2.0-kW prototype circuit. This paper proposes a zero-voltage switching (ZVS) pulsewidth modulation (PWM) dc/dc converter with current double rectifiers to achieve ZVS for all switches under a wide range of load conditions and input voltages. Two three-level PWM circuits sharing the same power switches are adopted in the proposed converter to reduce the voltage stress of each MOSFET at Vin/2 and achieve load current sharing. Thus, the current stress and power rating at the secondary-side components are reduced. The current double rectifiers are used at the secondary side to partially cancel the output ripple current. Thus, the sizes of the magnetic components and output filter capacitance are reduced. This paper proposes a novel nonisolated flyback switching capacitor voltage regulator. The converter is a combination of a switching capacitor converter and a pulsewidth modulation voltage regulator, and it has the following advantages: 1) the switches achieve zero voltage switching (ZVS); 2) the self-driven method of the synchronous rectifier (SR) is applied to save the drive loss and the body diode conduction loss; 3) the transformer leakage inductor is utilized to realize the soft switching of the switches; and 4) single-phase option makes it more flexible. This paper presents a soft-switching pulsewidth modulation (PWM) nonisolated boost dc–dc converter embedding an edge-resonant switched capacitor (ER-SWC) cell and its interleaved circuit topology. The conceptual boost dc–dc converter treated herein can achieve high-frequency zero-current soft-switching turn-on and zero-voltage soft-switching turn-off operations in the active switches and minimization of a reverse recovering current in the freewheeling diode under discontinuous conduction mode partially including critical conduction mode in the input current. Those advantageous properties enable a wide range of soft-switching operations together with a high-voltage step-up conversion ratio with a reduced current stress. Circuit design guideline based on the soft-switching range is introduced; then, a theoretical analysis is carried out for investigating the step-up voltage conversion ratio. This paper presents a new soft-switching dc/dc converter for high-input-voltage applications. Two half-bridge converters connected in series with interleaved asymmetric pulsewidth modulation (PWM) are adopted to limit the voltage stress of each power switch at one-half of the input dc bus voltage. In each half-bridge converter, two asymmetrical dc/dc circuits with the same active switches are connected in parallel at the output side to share the load current and reduce the current stresses of the secondary windings and rectifier diodes. Since two half-bridge converters are operated with interleaved PWM, the output ripple currents partially cancel each other so that the resultant ripple current at the output side is reduced. Active switches in the proposed circuit can be turned on at zero-voltage switching during the transition interval due to the resonant behavior by the output capacitance of MOSFETs and the leakage inductance of transformers. This paper proposes a new soft-switching circuit for high-input-voltage applications to achieve zero voltage switching (ZVS), implement load current sharing, reduce the voltage stress of switches at Vin/2, and decrease current rating of the rectifier diodes and the output inductors. Two three-level pulse-width modulation (PWM) circuits with the same active switches are operated with the phase-shift PWM scheme. Two center-tapped rectifiers are adopted at the secondary side such that the current rating of the transformer windings, rectifier diodes, and output filter inductors are reduced and have only one diode conduction loss in the forward current path. The demand for nonisolated high step-up dc-dc converters in applications such as dc backup energy systems for UPS, photovoltaic and fuel cell systems, and hybrid electric vehicles has been gradually increasing. This paper proposes nonisolated step-up dc-dc converters with an improved switching method. The proposed converter shows zero-voltage switching turn-on of the switches in continuous conduction mode as well as reduced turn- off switching losses owing to the switching method that utilizes Lr-Cr resonance in the auxiliary circuit. Also, as a result of the proposed switching method, the switching losses associated with diode reverse recovery become negligible even in the small duty cycle. The capacitance in the auxiliary circuit is significantly reduced compared to the pulsewidth modulation method. The duty cycle loss is further reduced resulting in increased step-up ratio. A novel winding-coupled bidirectional dc/dc converter with zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) performance is proposed in this paper. In the low-voltage side, the parallel configuration is employed to share the large current and reduce the current ripple. In the high-voltage side, the series structure is adopted to sustain the high bus voltage and achieve large voltage ratio conversion. There are only two coupled inductors in the proposed interleaved bidirectional converter and their secondary windings are in series to serve as winding-coupled inductors. Furthermore, the two winding-coupled inductors can be integrated into a magnetic core to reduce the passive component numbers and improve the power density. Moreover, ZVS soft-switching operation is implemented for all the power switches to minimize the switching losses by introducing the active clamp scheme. In addition, the pulsewidth modulation plus phase-shift control strategy is employed to reduce the power MOSFET peak current and diminish the circulating losses. The duty cycle is applied to balance the voltages of both sides. The phase-shift angle is introduced to realize the power flow regulation. Capacitor charging power supply (CCPS) is a developed technology that utilizes resonant converters topology for high power applications. This paper proposes new a capacitor charging power supply using leg-rotation control method within a phase-shifted PWM full-bridge dc/dc converter. The capacitor charging power supply was connected in series to increase output voltage. Also, the proposed system is designed with soft switching techniques in order to achieve high efficiency, and a leg-rotation control method was used to reduce the heat generated from the IGBTs. The operation of the converter and design methodology will be described. A simplified model of a high-voltage high-frequency transformer is given and the structure is designed to decrease high-voltage stress. The validity of the proposed system is then verified by experimental results.
