Imperfect Channel State Information at the Transmitter (CSIT) is inevitable in modern wireless communication networks, and results in severe multi-user interference in multi-antenna Broadcast Channel (BC). While the capacity of multi-antenna (Gaussian) BC with perfect CSIT is known and achieved by Dirty Paper Coding (DPC), the capacity and the capacity-achieving strategy of multi-antenna BC with imperfect CSIT remain unknown. Conventional approaches therefore rely on applying communication strategies designed for perfect CSIT to the imperfect CSIT setting. In this work, we break this conventional routine and make two major contributions. First, we show that linearly precoded Rate-Splitting (RS), relying on the split of messages into common and private parts and linear precoding at the transmitter, and successive interference cancellation at the receivers, can achieve larger rate region than DPC in multi-antenna BC with partial CSIT. Second, we propose a novel scheme, denoted as Dirty Paper Coded Rate-Splitting (DPCRS), that relies on RS to split the user messages into common and private parts, and DPC to encode the private parts. We show that the rate region of DPCRS in Multiple-Input Single-Output (MISO) BC with partial CSIT is enlarged beyond that of conventional DPC and that of linearly precoded RS. Gaining benefits from the capability of RS to partially decode the interference and partially treat interference as noise, DPCRS is less sensitive to CSIT inaccuracies, networks loads and user deployments compared with DPC and other existing transmission strategies. For multi-user multiple-input-multiple-output (MU-MIMO) system, transmitter utilizes a pre-equalizer based precoding to cancel inter-stream interference for parallel transmission with the aid of accurate feedback of channel state information (CSI) from all receivers. The correct power scaling factor, which normalizes the symbols power of precoding to be a constant one, is required at each receiver. Due to CSI error and limitation of feed-forward link, the received inaccurate power scaling factor will shrink or expand the received constellation points which severely degrades the performance of MIMO system. In this paper, using nonlinear vector perturbation (VP) and linear zero-forcing (ZF) precoding, we analyze the impact of inaccurate power scaling factor on the performance of a MIMO precoding system. The analyzed results show that the mismatched modulo size from inaccurate power scaling factor severely degrades the performance of the VP system, especially for high order M-QAM modulation. In addition, the performance degradation is strongly related with the distribution of representation points for each M-QAM symbol. For linear ZF precoding, the performance loss from the shrinked or expanded constellation points is severe for system using high order M-QAM. In addition, to alleviate the performance degradation, we propose a VP system using partial perturbation points (PPP). By limiting the region of redundant points with vector perturbation for partial M-QAM symbols, the performance degradation due to the inaccurate power scaling factor can be alleviated. In wireless networks, the link connectivity may be intermittent due to shadowing, burstiness of data arrival, or uncoordinated resource allocation. In this paper, we model the intermittence of links as Bernoulli distributed random channel states, termed intermittence channel states, and study the impact of the corresponding channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT) in a two-user Gaussian broadcast channel (BC). Moreover, due to the heterogeneous timeliness of intermittence channel states, the CSIT considered in this paper is hybrid. More specifically, the CSIT of each link can be perfectly (causally or non-causally) available, delayed, or not available. When the links are connected, we adopt a general setting that the received signal-to-noise ratios can be different. Our contribution is the characterization of the capacity regions of intermittent Gaussian BC to within bounded gaps for all combinations of hybrid CSIT, except for scenario DN (delayed CSIT of receiver 1, no CSIT of receiver 2). For scenario DN, we propose an opportunistic physical layer network coding scheme that achieves a strictly larger degree-of-freedom (DoF) region than the no-CSIT DoF region. As a corollary, single-user CSIT is able to increase the sum DoF for intermittent Gaussian BC (also the capacity region for the erasure BC, as a by-product). This result is in sharp contrast to the recent negative result by Davoodi and Jafar, where it is shown that for fast-fading multiple-input single-output BC with continuous channel states, single-user CSIT does not help at all in terms of sum DoF. In this paper, the design of a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) optical wireless communication (OWC) link based on vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) arrays is systematically carried out with the aim to support data rates in excess of 1 Tb/s for the backhaul of sixth generation (6G) indoor wireless networks. The proposed design combines direct current optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DCO-OFDM) and a spatial multiplexing MIMO architecture. For such an ultra-high-speed line-of-sight (LOS) OWC link with low divergence laser beams, maintaining alignment is of high importance. In this paper, two types of misalignment error between the transmitter and receiver are distinguished, namely, radial displacement error and orientation angle error, and they are thoroughly modeled in a unified analytical framework assuming Gaussian laser beams, resulting in a generalized misalignment model (GMM). The derived GMM is then extended to MIMO arrays and the performance of the MIMO-OFDM OWC system is analyzed in terms of the aggregate data rate. Novel insights are provided into the system performance based on computer simulations by studying various influential factors such as beam waist, array configuration and different misalignment errors, which can be used as guidelines for designing short range Tb/s MIMO OWC systems. The reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS), which consists of many low-cost reflecting elements, can enhance the reception of the desired signal and suppress the interference. Considering the above advantages, this paper investigates the RIS-assisted wireless communication in the presence of an interferer, where a receiver receives the desired signal and interference from a transmitter and an interferer, respectively, and the RIS is deployed to assist this system. First, an interference-limited channel capacity maximization problem is formulated, and a numerical algorithm based on the fraction programming and optimality conditions is proposed to obtain the optimal solution. Then, this paper shows the upper boundary of the maximal capacity with interference and discusses what kind of channel conditions can achieve the upper boundary and the corresponding optimal phase shifts. Next, this paper analyzes the asymptotic behaviors of the maximal capacity in the scenarios that some or all of the number of reflecting elements, antennas at the transmitter, and interferer go to infinity. This paper studies a memoryless state-dependent multiple access channel (MAC) where two transmitters wish to convey a message to a receiver under the assumption of causal and imperfect channel state information at transmitters (CSIT) and imperfect channel state information at receiver (CSIR). In order to emphasize the limitation of transmitter cooperation between physically distributed nodes, we focus on the so-called distributed CSIT assumption, i.e., where each transmitter has its individual channel knowledge, while the message can be assumed to be partially or entirely shared a priori between transmitters by exploiting some on-board memory. Under this setup, the first part of the paper characterizes the common message capacity of the channel at hand for arbitrary CSIT and CSIR structure. The optimal scheme builds on Shannon strategies, i.e., optimal codes are constructed by letting the channel inputs be a function of current CSIT only. For a special case when CSIT is a deterministic function of CSIR, the considered scheme also achieves the capacity region of a common message and two private messages. The second part addresses an important instance of the previous general result in a context of a cooperative multi-antenna Gaussian channel under i.i.d. fading operating in frequency-division duplex mode, such that CSIT is acquired via an explicit feedback of perfect CSIR. The capacity of the channel at hand is achieved by distributed linear precoding applied to Gaussian codes. Surprisingly, we demonstrate that it is suboptimal to send a number of data streams bounded by the number of transmit antennas as typically considered in a centralized CSIT setup. This paper aims to characterize the capacity limits of a wireless cellular network with a full-duplex (FD) base-station (BS) and half-duplex user terminals, in which three independent messages are communicated: the uplink message m1 from the uplink user to the BS, the downlink message m2 from the BS to the downlink user, and the device-to-device (D2D) message m3 from the uplink user to the downlink user. From an information theoretical perspective, the overall network can be viewed as a generalization of the FD relay broadcast channel with a side message transmitted from the relay to the destination. We begin with a simpler case that involves the uplink and downlink transmissions of (m1, m2) only, and propose an achievable rate region based on a novel strategy that uses the BS as a FD relay to facilitate the interference cancellation at the downlink user. We also prove a new converse, which is strictly tighter than the cut-set bound, and characterize the capacity region of the scalar Gaussian FD network without a D2D message to within a constant gap. This paper further studies a general setup wherein (m1, m2, m3) are communicated simultaneously. To account for the D2D message, we incorporate Marton’s broadcast coding into the previous scheme to obtain a larger achievable rate region than the existing ones in the literature. We also improve the cut-set bound by means of genie and show that by using one of the two simple rate-splitting schemes, the capacity region of the scalar Gaussian FD network with a D2D message can already be reached to within a constant gap. Finally, a generalization to the vector Gaussian channel case is discussed. Computation over multiple access channels (CoMAC) has been proposed to solve the problem of spectrum scarcity in wireless networks, which combines communication and computation efficiently using the superposition property of wireless channels. In this paper, we consider a multi-cluster CoMAC network, whose performance is affected by the inter-cluster interference and the non-uniform fading. To minimize the sum mean squared error of signals aggregated at different fusion centers (FCs), we propose a transceiver design for multi-cluster CoMAC. Specifically, we adopt a uniform-forcing transmitter design to formulate the receiver design as a quadratic sum-of-ratios problem with nonconvex quadratic constraints. Then, we propose a branch-and-bound algorithm to find its optimal solution with a given error tolerance. To solve the problem in a decentralized way, we develop a distributed algorithm based on the primal decomposition theory. Each subproblem is solved by using the successive convex approximation method. Further combining Lagrange duality, we derive the optimal solution structure of each subproblem, based on which we can find the solution with lower complexity. Intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) composed of unit cells with tunable reflection coefficients, amplitude, phase, and frequency has received great interest from wireless communication communities. In this paper, a non-stationary three-dimensional (3-D) wideband IRS-assisted channel model, including spatial and temporal non-stationarity, is proposed for high altitude platform (HAP) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication systems. The proposed channel model considers the propagation environment around the receiver (Rx) and that around both the IRS and Rx, which are modeled using multiple 3-D cylinders and confocal elliptic-cylinders, respectively. In the proposed model, the optimal reflection phases of the IRS reflection units are proposed, and the number and the size of the IRS reflection units are also considered, which are used to investigate received signal strength, multipath fading effect, and spatial non-stationarity of IRS-aided communication systems. The numerical results show that the IRS reflection units can improve the received signal strength by adjusting the reflection phases and multipath fading effect can be effectively reduced by increasing the number and the size of IRS reflection units. Also, it is found that the spatial correlation significantly decreases with the increase of the number and size of the IRS reflection units, and the proposed IRS-aided channel model presents spatial non-stationarity. Covert wireless communications aim to hide the existence of transmission behavior from watchful adversaries to enhance security. In this paper, we propose a spectrum mask based covert communication strategy in Internet of Things (IoT) networks, where the overt channels are leveraged to enhance the covertness. Specifically, the legitimate IoT transmitter superimposes its own message on the overt channel to avoid being detected by the warden. We assume that proper Gaussian signaling (PGS) is adopted at the overt channel, and improper Gaussian signaling (IGS) is adopted at the legitimate transmitter to improve the covert transmission performance. To maximize the covert rate of the legitimate IoT system, a joint transmit power and IGS factor optimization problem is formulated under the constraints of covertness requirement. The metric of minimum error detection probability, that represents the worst-case for the legitimate transmitter, is utilized to measure the covertness. By exploiting the piece-wise monotonic properties of the objective function and the constraints, we derive the optimal transmit power and IGS factor pairs in both the IGS and PGS schemes. Finally, extensive numerical results are presented to demonstrate that the IGS scheme can improve the covert rate compared to the PGS scheme under a given covertness constraint. Owing to the flexible mobility and convenient deployment, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) aided networks can facilitate many applications. However, the open accessibility of wireless communication brings a great risk of privacy to UAV-based networks. Thus, in this paper, we propose a UAV-aided covert communication scheme assisted by a multi-antenna jammer to maximize the transmission rate between a ground transmitter and a UAV receiver against several randomly distributed wardens. The transmitter adopts the maximum ratio transmission, while the jammer zero-forces its transmitted signal at the UAV to disturb the monitoring at wardens without interfering the legitimate transmission. First, we analyze the detection performance and derive the optimal threshold for each warden to minimize its detection outage probability (DOP). Then, with the worst situation in which all wardens set their respective optimal thresholds to achieve the minimum global DOP, the location and the transmit power of the jammer are optimized to maximize the DOP. The location of UAV and the transmit power of the ground transmitter are also optimized to maximize the transmission rate with the minimum DOP requirement satisfied. Thanks to excellent mobility and high probability of a Line-of-Sight (LoS) to ground objects, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have been widely used in surveillance. This paper considers the use of UAVs to covertly and collaboratively eavesdrop on suspicious wireless transmitters on the ground. We focus on the trajectory planning of the UAVs. To avoid the UAVs being visually noticed by the ground transmitters, we propose a new measure to quantify the disguising performance of the UAVs. The trajectories of the UAVs are planned to maximize the disguising performance, subject to an uninterrupted eavesdropping requirement, UAV collision avoidance and UAV aeronautic maneuverability. A new randomized method based on the Rapidly-exploring Random Tree (RRT) is developed to efficiently construct the trajectories of the UAVs. Computer simulations confirm that the proposed method outperforms the random movement method in eavesdropping performance, while achieving with comparable disguising performance. It has been a challenging task to derive the complementary cumulative distribution function (CCDF) of aggregate interference as closed-form in Poisson point process (PPP). In this paper, we consider wireless communication networks where transmitters are all distributed according to homogeneous PPP and study the CCDF of the interference. Mainly, we derive generalized bounds on the CCDF of aggregate interference from whole homogeneous PPP based on discretization of interference, which considerably enhance tightness compared to the previous bounds. These bounds can be used to the analysis requiring the distribution for aggregate interference, such as deployment and activation of BSs, massive MIMO, and millimeter wave communication networks. As examples of utilizing the derived bounds, we derive tractable coverage probabilities of uplink non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) users and downlink users in cellular networks under line-of-sight(LoS)/non-line-of-signt (NLOS) channels, respectively. In NOMA, we derive the closed-form bounds on coverage probability when successive interference cancellation is adopted for NOMA signal demodulation. Using the proposed bounds, we also obtain the bounds on coverage probability of a cellular system with LoS/NLOS channels. The tightness of bounds in this work is shown via numerical comparison. We consider two users A and B wanting to exchange their messages MA and MB via a relay in a wireless communication network. To this aim, we have two methods: direct forward (DF) and computation and forward (CAF). In the first method, after an orthogonal multiple access (OMA) or non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) phase, the receiver decodes the two messages. In the second method, after a NOMA phase, the receiver decodes only the (modulo) sum. In the latter case the capacity region (computation region) is not known. This paper compares the two methods. To such aim, we propose a unified coding framework and identify a lower bound of achievable computation rates. We consider three constellations for the symmetric two-user Gaussian channel with Eisenstein constellation showing highest performance. We also show that a minimum signal-to-noise ratio is required for our CAF method to outperform DF, and we obtain the numerical values of such minimum ratios for the three constellations. Finally, we show achievability of our bounds, which is proved to require affine codes for computation, which has not been proved before. In this paper, we consider a coordinated beamforming design for a multiple-input single-output bursty interference channel. In practical scenarios, the distributed medium access control mechanisms or the decentralized networking protocols across different users contribute to the bursty nature of network traffic. The potential gains provided by such burstiness can be exploited by feeding back the interference state information to the transmitters. Errors may occur during such feedback, thus causing uncertainties in the user traffic and resulting in complicated beamforming design problems. In this paper, we model such traffic uncertainties by using a hidden Markov model (HMM). Assuming that perfect channel state information (CSI) is available at the transmitters, our goal is to maximize the average system utility subjected to average power constraints under traffic uncertainties. We also extend the optimization problem to the imperfect CSI case. However, the resulting problem is highly nonconvex. Hence, we apply a series of convex approximation techniques. We further improve the approximation accuracy by using our proposed successive convex approximation (SCA) algorithms (HMM-SCA). In our simulation results, we observe that our proposed HMM-SCA provides a $46.3\%$ improvement in weighted sum rate over the SCA algorithm, in which the interference is assumed to be always present (NB-SCA). For the average weighted geometric mean rate, we observe that our proposed HMM-SCA also provides a $41.3\%$ improvement over the NB-SCA when user fairness is considered. In this paper, spectrum sharing incentive for legitimate wireless information surveillance at the physical layer is investigated. The concept behind this is that authorized government agencies want to eavesdrop the communication between a suspicious source-destination pair, and stimulate the help of another source-destination pair (referred to as secondary users) looking for transmission opportunities. We thus propose to let the secondary receiver act as a monitor to eavesdrop the suspicious communication and let the secondary transmitter act as a friendly jammer to improve the eavesdropping performance, such that they are granted to share the spectrum of the suspicious users, as a reward. To guarantee the eavesdropping performance, the successful eavesdropping probability is required to be larger than that with passive eavesdropping. The problems of jointly optimizing the transmit power of the secondary transmitter and the successive interference cancellation (SIC) decoding order at the secondary receiver to maximize the average secondary transmission rate and minimize the secondary transmission outage probability are investigated. Two scenarios are considered for the availability of the channel state information (CSI). The first scenario assumes perfect CSI, and the optimal strategies for the transmit power control and the SIC decoding ordering are derived. The second scenario assumes partial CSI, where the instantaneous CSI of the secondary transmission link and the statistical CSI of the links related to the suspicious communication are available, and the optimal strategies for maximizing an approximate average secondary transmission rate and minimizing an approximate secondary transmission outage probability are proposed. Metasurface has great capabilities in tailoring the electromagnetic (EM) waves in a controllable way owing to the carefully designed and arranged subwavelength meta-atoms. In this review paper, the digital version of metasurface, information metasurface (IM), is systematically introduced with its application in wireless communications. IM extends the research scope of metasurface from physics to the information perspective, in which the meta-atoms are represented by using digital codes “0” and “1” to characterize the EM responses. It can achieve programmable controls of EM waves in real time by integrating with the field-programmable gate array (FPGA). On the other hand, the digital coding strategy bridges the physical world and digital world, and further make the metasurface realize direct information processing. With the outstanding advantages, IMs have shown great potentials to bring revolutionary applications in wireless communications. In this article, the basic concepts and principles of IMs and their programmable features are presented first. Then it focuses on the IM-based new architecture transmitters, as well as the IM-integrated wireless networks in more detail. To meet the ever increasing demand for better service quality and availability, the next generation digital TV (DTV) broadcast, a.k.a., the ATSC 3.0, is developed with new capabilities to deliver 4K ultra-high-definition (4K-UHD) services to fixed receivers, robust HD-quality services to mobile receivers, as well as non-broadcast services (e.g., broadband), including Internet of Things (IoT), Connected Vehicles, etc. To realize these capabilities, it becomes necessary to evolve the existing single-transmitter high-power-high-tower (HPHT) network to multi-transmitter low-power-low-tower single-frequency-networks (SFN), which requires installing new transmitters. Each new transmitter needs a feederlink to receive the service data from the broadcast gateway (BG) for transmission. This feederlink contributes to a significant portion of installation and operational costs of the new transmitters. This paper proposes a wireless in-band distribution link (WIDL) technology, where the distribution data is delivered to the newly deployed transmitters from the existing DTV towers wirelessly sharing the same TV band with the broadcast services. The distribution signal is multiplexed with service signal in the same ATSC 3.0 waveform. Layered division multiplexing (LDM) technology is proposed to achieve more efficient transmission of the distribution signal. The WIDL offers better performance and more robust operation than the on-channel repeater (OCR) technologies. More importantly, it offers the possibility of delivering backhaul data for future applications over the DTV infrastructure, such as IoT and connected vehicles. In this paper, we investigate the covert communications in an overlay cognitive radio (CR) network, where multiple secondary transmitters (STs) opportunistically send confidential information to a secondary receiver (SR). In contrast to current studies with ensuring security of information transmitted, we are motivated to protect communication behavior in CR network, which is considered as a higher-level security. To address covert rate and fairness performance, three joint user-jammer scheduling schemes are proposed, namely, rate-oriented secondary user scheduling (R-SUS), link-oriented secondary user scheduling (L-SUS), and fairness oriented secondary user scheduling (F-SUS). Numerical results show that the minimal detection error probability at eavesdropper (Eve) can be effectively impacted by creating channel uncertainty with the jamming signal. Further, it can be seen that under the same covert constraint, the R-SUS scheme achieves the best covert rate performance, full diversity can be obtained by the L-SUS scheme, while the F-SUS scheme exploits an advantage of better fairness. In this paper, we present a novel neural network architecture for MIMO symbol detection, the Recurrent Equivariant MIMO detector (RE-MIMO). It incorporates several important considerations in wireless communication systems, such as robustness to channel misspecification, the ability to handle a varying number of users with a single model, and invariance to the (sequential) order in which the users interact with the system. The decoder consists of three main blocks; one block to inform the decoder of the channel model, one permutation equivariant block based on the successful transformer architecture to model transmitter channel interactions, and one fully connected feedforward network to predict the demodulated symbols for each user. These blocks are chained together into an iterative decoder that is trained through end-to-end backpropagation. RE-MIMO is compared against a broad range of existing methods and the results confirm the ability of the network to achieve the state of the art demodulation accuracy. In particular, RE-MIMO efficiently handles a variable number of transmitters with only a single trained model, is capable of dealing with correlated channels, and is robust to channel misspecification. In this paper, we develop the transient performance limits of wireless transmissions for ultra-reliable low-latency communications (URLLC). In particular, we derive the exact statistics of the maximum amount of data that can be delivered during a fixed time duration over fading channels, for both channel state information (CSI) at transmitter side and CSI at receiver side only scenarios. Following a recently proposed data-oriented approach, we then analyze the performance of sample ideal transmission schemes in terms of URLLC support. In this paper, we study the capacity and symbol error probability (SEP) of generalized spatial modulation (GSM) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) using measured channels that are obtained by channel sounding in an indoor office environment at 60GHz. Spatial modulation (SM) and GSM are emerging low-complexity MIMO schemes that have been extensively researched for low-GHz (below 6GHz) communications. Recently, they have been considered and shown to be promising also for (mmWave) communications. In the simplest possible case, they require only one RF chain both at the transmitter (TX) and receiver (RX), and thus, are especially attractive for mmWave communications, in which the number of RF chains needs to be as low as possible. Despite of some early works on the theoretical analysis of SM/GSM for mmWave communications, there have been no investigations using real-world channel data. We focus on the office line-of-sight (LOS) scenario and investigate three problems: 1) the performance of GSM using the extracted LOS component of measured channels; 2) the impact of non-LOS NLOS components on the performance of GSM; and 3) possible simple modulation and reception algorithms for GSM that rely only on the LOS component of the channel. The results being reported in this paper not only validate the main claims of previous studies based on ideal pure LOS channels, but also lead to novel findings. One major conclusion is that NLOS components are harmful to the SEP of GSM and should be avoided. This paper characterizes the performance in terms of queueing stability of a network composed of multiple MIMO transmitter-receiver pairs taking into account the dynamic traffic pattern and the probing/feedback cost. We adopt a centralized scheduling scheme that selects a number of active pairs in each time-slot. We consider that the transmitters apply interference alignment (IA) technique if two or more pairs are active, whereas in the special case where one pair is active point-to-point MIMO singular value decomposition (SVD) is used. We consider a time-division duplex (TDD) system where transmitters acquire their channel state information (CSI) by decoding the pilot sequences sent by the receivers. Since global CSI knowledge is required for IA, the transmitters have also to exchange their estimated CSIs over a backhaul of limited capacity (i.e. imperfect case). Under this setting, we characterize in this paper the stability region of the system under both the imperfect and perfect (i.e. unlimited backhaul) cases, then we examine the gap between these two resulting regions. Further, under each case we provide a centralized probing policy that achieves the max stability region. These stability regions and scheduling policies are given for the symmetric system, where all the path loss coefficients are equal to each other, as well as for the general system. For the symmetric system, we provide the conditions under which IA yields a queueing stability gain compared to SVD. Under the general system, the adopted scheduling policy is of a high computational complexity for moderate numbers of pairs, consequently we propose an approximate policy that has a reduced complexity but that achieves only a fraction of the system stability region. This paper studies the information-energy ($\mathrm{I}$ - $\mathrm{E}$) region for simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) networks in mobility scenarios, where a moving transmitter simultaneously transmits information and power to a fixed receiver, and the receiver adopts power splitting (PS) receiving architecture. In order to characterize the tradeoff between the received information and harvested energy, the $\mathrm{I}$ - $\mathrm{E}$ region is defined, and corresponding optimization problems are formulated to explore the system $\mathrm{I}$ - $\mathrm{E}$ regions by jointly optimizing the transmit power at the transmitter and the PS ratio at the receiver with three popular energy harvesting (EH) models, i.e., traditional linear EH model, the logistic nonlinear EH model and the piecewise nonlinear EH model. Particularly, to efficiently solve the nonconvex optimization problem with the logistic nonlinear EH model, a successive convex approximate (SCA)-based algorithm is proposed, which is able to characterize the lower bound of the $\mathrm{I}$ - $\mathrm{E}$ with low complexity. To solve the optimization problems with the linear and piecewise EH models, as they are convex, some closed and semi-closed solutions are derived by using Lagrange dual method and KKT conditions. Numerical results show that compared with the $\mathrm{I}$ - $\mathrm{E}$ regions under the linear and piecewise EH models, that under the logistic nonlinear EH model is smaller due to the limitations of practical EH circuit features. Moreover, with a fixed moving speed, when the transmit power is relatively large, the logistic nonlinear EH model can be replaced with the piecewise one due to the relatively small gap between their achieved $\mathrm{I}$ - $\mathrm{E}$ regions. In this paper, a low-feedback-sampling-rate digital predistortion (DPD) method is proposed for wideband wireless transmitters and radio-frequency power amplifiers (PAs). This DPD method inserts a non-ideal real band-pass filter into the feedback loop to limit the feedback bandwidth. Meanwhile, to recover the band-limited feedback signal, it introduces a signal-recovery module that is based on the deep neural network (DNN). A data-preprocessing technique is proposed to reduce the amount of input data for the DNN and thereby significantly reducing its structural complexity. Also, the use of DNN makes it feasible to implement off-line training. Both the simplicity of the proposed DNN and the availability of off-line training reduce the system complexity in DPD. Experimental validation was performed on a PA driven by wideband orthogonal-frequency-division-multiplexing (OFDM) signals. The results demonstrated the superiority of the proposed method in under-sampling applications. The proposed DPD method achieved the same linearization performance as the state-of-art DPD methods while requiring a sampling rate that was approximately 5% less. In this paper, we study the arbitrarily varying broadcast channel (AVBC) when the state information is available at the transmitter in a causal manner. We establish the inner and outer bounds on both the random code capacity region and the deterministic code capacity region with degraded message sets. The capacity region is then determined for a class of channels satisfying a condition on the mutual information between the strategy variables and the channel outputs. As an example, we consider the arbitrarily varying binary symmetric broadcast channel. We show the cases where the condition holds and, hence, the capacity region is determined and other cases where there is a gap between the bounds. This paper studies caching in $(K\!+\!L\!-\!1)\!\times \!K$ partially connected wireless linear networks, where each of the $K$ receivers locally communicates with $L$ out of the $K\!+\!L\!-\!1$ transmitters, and caches are at all nodes. The goal is to design caching and delivery schemes to reduce the transmission latency, by using normalized delivery time (NDT) as the performance metric. For small transmitter cache size (any $L$ transmitters can collectively store the database just once), we propose a cyclic caching strategy so that each of every $L$ consecutive transmitters caches a distinct part of each file; the delivery strategy exploits coded multicasting and interference alignment by introducing virtual receivers. The obtained NDT is within a multiplicative gap of 2 to the optimum in the entire cache size region, and optimal in certain region. For large transmitter cache size (any $L$ transmitters can collectively store the database for multiple copies), we propose a modified caching strategy so that every bit is repeatedly cached at consecutive transmitters; the delivery strategy exploits self-interference cancellation and interference neutralization. By combining these schemes, the NDT is optimal in a larger region. We also extend our results to linear networks with heterogeneous receiver connectivity and partially connected circular networks. Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) and spectrum sharing (SS) are two emerging multiple access technologies for efficient spectrum utilization in future wireless communications standards. In this paper, we present the performance analysis of a NOMA-based cooperative relaying system (CRS) in an underlay spectrum sharing scenario, considering a peak interference constraint (PIC), where the peak interference inflicted by the secondary (unlicensed) network on the primary-user (licensed) receiver (PU-Rx) should be less than a predetermined threshold. In the proposed system the relay and the secondary-user receiver (SU-Rx) are equipped with multiple receive antennas and apply selection combining (SC), where the antenna with highest instantaneous signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is selected, and maximal-ratio combining (MRC), for signal reception. Closed-form expressions are derived for the average achievable rate and outage probabilities for SS-based CRS-NOMA. These results show that for large values of peak interference power, the SS-based CRS-NOMA outperforms the CRS with conventional orthogonal multiple access (OMA) in terms of spectral efficiency. The effect of the interference channel on the system performance is also discussed, and in particular, it is shown that the interference channel between the secondary-user transmitter (SU-Tx) and the PU-Rx has a more severe effect on the average achievable rate as compared to that between the relay and the PU-Rx. This paper studies the threat that an aerial eavesdropper can pose to terrestrial wireless communications, from an information-theoretic point of view. The achievable ergodic and the average $\epsilon $ -outage secrecy rates with no channel state information at the transmitter (i.e., with no CSIT) are analyzed for a transmitter–receiver pair on the ground, in the presence of an aerial eavesdropper which flies a random trajectory following a smooth turn (ST) mobility model in a three-dimensional (3D) space. The ST mobility model induces a uniform distribution (of the eavesdropper’s waypoints) within the considered 3D volume. Closed-form asymptotic approximations of the achievable secrecy rates are derived based on the almost sure convergence and non-trivial mathematical manipulations. Validated by simulations, our analysis is tight and reveals that the ground transmission is particularly vulnerable to aerial eavesdropping which can be carried out in a distance without being noticed. 3D spherical regions are identified, within which the secrecy rates vanish. Building on the recent coded-caching breakthrough by Maddah-Ali and Niesen, the work here considers the $K$ -user cache-aided wireless multi-antenna symmetric broadcast channel with random fading and imperfect feedback, and analyzes the throughput performance as a function of feedback statistics and cache size. In this setting, this paper identifies the optimal cache-aided degrees-of-freedom (DoF) within a factor of 4, by identifying near-optimal schemes that exploit a new synergy between coded caching and delayed CSIT, as well as by exploiting the unexplored interplay between caching and feedback-quality. The DoF expressions reveal an initial gain due to current CSIT, and an additional gain due to coded caching, which is exponential in the sense that any linear decrease in the required DoF performance, allows for an exponential reduction in the required cache size. In the end, this paper reveals three new aspects of caching: a synergy between memory and delayed feedback, a tradeoff between memory and current CSIT, and a powerful ability to provide cache-aided feedback savings. Channel effects can severely degrade performance and reliability of a wireless communication system if they are not taken into account. An accurate characterization is indispensable for the proper design and parametrization of such data links. In this paper, the focus is on aircraft to ground station channel sounding and characterization to lay the foundation for unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) control and non-payload communication (CNPC) link designs. After a comprehensive review of related work, an introduction into the implemented channel sounding principle with the aid of a custom-made sounder is given, followed by a detailed description of the two measurement campaigns at Ingolstadt/Manching airport, Germany. The obtained large-scale fading results are presented, including shadowing and antenna misalignment effects. Then, small-scale fading is discussed by means of K-factors, delay, and Doppler spread statistics. For all evaluations, the recorded data set has been classified to work out and compare the characteristics of typical phases of UAV operation. Spatial modulation is emerging as a promising signal transmission paradigm for future wireless communications relying on massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology. In this paper, the receive spatial modulation (RSM) is applied to the downlink of multi-user MIMO systems with the base station equipped with a massive array of antennas. Due to the significant overhead associated with acquiring channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT) of frequency-division-duplex massive MIMO systems, herein we propose a preprocessing scheme for correlated channels that reduces the channel estimation overheads. The proposed preprocessing method relies on the partial CSIT and consists of two stages of beamforming and precoding. The beamforming is accomplished via block-diagonalization to combat multi-user interference while the precoding matrix is designed by formulating optimization problems aiming to eliminate inter-antenna interference and enhancing RSM transmission performance. The design criteria of the problems include bit-error-rate minimization and discrete-input continuous-output (DCMC) capacity maximization with a transmit power constraint. The arising non-convex problems are cast as semi-definite and second-order cone programs that can be solved efficiently. The proposed schemes are readily extended to generalized RSM as the most comprehensive case in RSM-MIMO scenarios. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed schemes outperform the imperfect-CSIT based and two-stage zero-forcing procedures and offer similar or significant performance compared to conventional MIMO counterparts at low to mid signal-to-noise ratio regimes, depending on the configurations. Chemical reactions are a prominent feature of molecular communication systems, with no direct parallels in wireless communications. While chemical reactions may be used inside the transmitter nodes, receiver nodes, or the communication medium, we focus on its utility in the medium in this paper. Such chemical reactions can be used to perform computation over the medium as molecules diffuse and react with each other (physical-layer computation). We propose the use of chemical reactions for the following purposes: 1) to reduce signal-dependent observation noise of receivers by reducing the signal density; 2) to realize molecular physical-layer network coding (PNC) by performing the natural XOR operation inside the medium; and 3) to reduce the inter-symbol interference (ISI) of other transmitters by canceling out the remaining molecules from previous transmissions. To make the ideas formal, we consider an explicit two-way relaying example with a transparent receiver (which has a signal-dependent noise). The proposed ideas are used to define a modulation scheme (which we call the PNC scheme). We compare the PNC with a previously proposed scheme for this problem, where the XOR operation is performed at the relay node (using a molecular logic gate). We call the latter, the straightforward network coding (SNC). This paper considers a wireless communication network consisting of multiple interfering multicast sessions. Different from a unicast system where each transmitter has only one receiver, in a multicast system, each transmitter has multiple receivers and broadcasts a common message to all of them. It is a well-known result for wireless unicast systems that the feasibility of a signal-to-interference-plus-noise power ratio (SINR) without power constraint is decided by the spectral radius of a nonnegative matrix. We generalize this result and obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for the feasibility of an SINR in a wireless multicast system with and without power constraint. The feasible SINR region and its geometric properties are studied. This paper proposes a zone-based approach referred to as zone-based GrEEn (ZBGrEEn) algorithm, for energy-efficient spectrum sharing (SS) networks. The SS network is considered to encompass device-to-device (D2D) transmissions between a single primary transmitter (PT) and multiple primary receivers (PRs), placed in distinctive zones around the PT. Power allocation is performed optimally so that the target rate of each application demanded by the PRs are adequately met. When the PT fails to meet the target rates over ${\rm{PT}} \to {\rm{PR}}$ D2D links, it transmits cooperatively through an appropriate secondary transmitter (ST) in the SS network, which acts as an amplify-and-forward (AF) relay. The ST's basis for selection is the ${\rm{PT}} \to {\rm{ST}}$ channel state and power level at the ST. Use of game theory for solving the energy efficiency (EE) maximization problem has also been quantified. ZBGrEEn introduces zone factor for determining the transmission time for each zone in the SS network. This time determines the energy consumption at the user terminals, thereby impacting its battery lifetime. The efficiency of the proposed scheme has been validated through simulation results, with the enhancement in battery lifetime of up to 46.28% achievable for the PT. Game theory is also observed to be rewarding in battery lifetime augmentation, especially for ultradense networks (UDNs). Caching in wireless device-to-device (D2D) networks can bring contents closer to users and reduce backhaul traffic. However, the major obstacle to realize cache-enabled D2D communications is the selfish nature of users. In this paper, we propose an incentive mechanism for pricing the contributions of D2D transmitters in cache-enabled D2D-underlaid cellular networks modeled by stochastic geometry. A Stackelberg game is employed to resolve the conflict of interests between the operator and D2D transmitters. The main objective of this game is to reach the Stackelberg equilibrium, in which both the operator and D2D transmitters achieve the maximum profit by designing the optimal incentive price and the optimal caching strategy. We show the existence of the equilibrium and propose a low-complexity algorithm to obtain the near-optimal caching strategy and incentive price. Numerical results verify the existence of the SE and the advantages of the proposed scheme in terms of the utilities for the operator and D2D transmitters over existing caching schemes with fixed incentive. This paper focuses on distributed linear precoding when users transmit correlated information over a fading multiple-input and multiple-output multiple access channel. The precoders are optimized in order to minimize the sum-mean square error (MSE) between the source and the estimated symbols. When sources are correlated, minimizing the sum-MSE results in a non-convex optimization problem. The precoders for an arbitrary number of users and transmit and receive antennas are thus obtained via a projected steepest-descent algorithm and a low-complexity heuristic approach. For the more restrictive case of two single-antenna users, a closed-form expression for the minimum sum-MSE precoders is derived. Moreover, for the scenario with a single receive antenna and any number of users, a solution is obtained by means of a semi-definite relaxation. Finally, we also consider precoding schemes where the precoders are decomposed into complex scalars and unit norm vectors. Simulation results show a significant improvement when source correlation is exploited at precoding, especially for low signal-to-noise ratios and when the number of receive antennas is lower than the number of transmitting nodes. In massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems, accurate direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation is critical for the transmitters to conduct downlink precoding. In this paper, we focus on the problem of two-dimensional DOA estimation of incoherently distributed sources in massive MIMO systems using uniform rectangular arrays (URAs). First, with the generalized array manifold, we obtain the beamspace array manifold by performing beamspace transformation on the observed vector of the URA, and establish one beamspace shift invariance structure via appropriate beamforming matrix design and array manifold selection. Second, from the beamspace array manifold, we extract two array manifolds, and derive the other beamspace shift invariance structure. Final, the total least squares approach is used to estimate the nominal azimuth and elevation DOAs. With the DOA estimates, the corresponding angular spreads are given in closed-form solutions. Our approach avoids spectral search and reduces the dimensions in matrix operations, thus, it is more computationally attractive than the existing techniques. In this paper, we study a secure cooperative transmission system in which a transmitter (Alice) intends to send a secret message to an authorized receiver (Bob), with the aid of a friendly private cooperative jammer (Oscar), in the presence of a malicious eavesdropper (Eve). Specifically, artificial noise (AN) assisted secrecy beamforming is utilized for secure transmission. Under the imperfect channel state information (CSI) of legitimate channels and the statistic CSI of illegitimate channels, the optimal power allocation ratio between the information-bearing signal and the AN signal for maximizing secrecy rate is derived. Through mathematical analysis, we notice that the high channel estimation error is greatly detrimental to the realization of the positive secrecy rate in secure system. For overcoming this drawback, back propagation neural network (BPNN) is employed for a high accuracy channel estimation to simulate a realistic security communication scenario. The numerical results show that the channel estimation errors result in a decrease in secrecy rate, but the BPNN channel estimator still can guarantee secure transmission that verifies the feasibility of the application of physical layer security. This paper proposes and implements a switched-capacitorless energy-encrypted transmitter and a 2-D frequency and duration encryption (FDE) technology for roadway-charging electric vehicles based on wireless power transfer (WPT). To prevent the encrypted energy package from being illegally decrypted by unauthorized receivers, the proposed 2-D chaotic FDE scheme generates a well-defended security key to improve the security performance for the multi-receiver WPT system. Moreover, by introducing a continuously energy-encrypted transmitter without using a switched-capacitor array as well as a hybrid modulation of pulse density modulation and pulse frequency modulation, the proposed FDE-WPT system can offer high energy security while maintaining high efficiency at flexible operating frequencies. In this paper, we consider a novel model of two-tier wireless backhaul (WB) small cell networks where each small cell access point is equipped with a buffer of finite storage. We employ a time-spectrum transmission accommodation scheme to separate the WB and access transmissions on top of developing a joint optimized transmit beamforming and power allocation algorithm. Unlike previous work, we propose a more advanced buffering protocol to study the small cell performance improvement by solving the offline and online optimization problems that maximize the total small cell access rate. Both kind of problems are generally non-convex and NP-hard. The offline scheme assumes the availability of channel state information (CSI) in current and future time slots and is used as a benchmark for online algorithms. To solve it, we develop a low-complexity algorithm which iteratively solves a sequence of lower bounded convex approximated problems until convergence. The formulated online problems must be solved in a slot-by-slot manner since transmitters only know the CSI of the current time slot. Then, we also develop low-complexity online algorithms to jointly design the transmit beamforming and power allocation. Our theoretical and numerical simulation results show that our proposed model with advanced buffering strategy outperforms the conventional designs in terms of small cell access rate for both offline and online algorithms. In this paper, a multiple-input multiple-output wiretap channel model is studied, where the information packet sent from the transmitter to the desired receiver is wiretapped by a potential eavesdropper. When ideal channel state information (CSI) is available, we design the secure beamforming using a proposed iterative closed-form updating scheme based on majorization–minimization approach. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed scheme acquires the same secrecy rate as the existing algorithms whereas it has much lower complexity. When ideal CSI is not available and channel errors are modeled by deterministically bounded model, we investigate robust secure beamforming (RSB) optimization problem whose goal is worst-case secrecy rate maximization. In the formulated optimization problem, the objective function includes the expression of a logarithm of a determinant ($\log \det$) minus $\log \det$. Instead of approximating the $\log \det$ expression as a trace, we propose to linearize two $\log \det$ terms. After linearization, epigraph reformulation is used to deal with deterministically bounded channel errors and semi-infinite constraints are recast as linear matrix inequalities. Finally, an alternating optimization algorithm is utilized to find the RSB design. After obtaining the RSB design, we derive the worst-case secrecy rate. With the increasing demand for high-data mobile traffic and applications, Device-to-Device (D2D) communication has emerged as a promising technique for next generation of cellular networks to increase the network capacity. In this paper, to offload traffic from network backhaul, we investigate the problem of relaying data through multihop nodes, using D2D communication, for a set of transmitter-receiver pairs, by sharing cellular resource blocks. Furthermore, the problem is extended to schedule the transmission links within a maximum time frame to obey a delay constraint. If the transmission path could not be scheduled within the maximum time frame for any D2D communication pair, the communication is redirected through the base station similar to cellular mode. Our problem aims at minimizing the overall D2D transmission power by giving priority to maximizing the number of paths that go through D2D relaying. We mathematically formulate the above problem and find optimal solutions for small networks. We show the NP-hardness of the problem, and owing to its complexity, we propose an algorithmic method for more extensive networks. A low cost frequency-dependent (FD) I/Q imbalance self-compensation scheme is investigated in this paper. The direct conversion transmitters are widely used in wireless systems. However, the unwanted image-frequencies and distortions are inevitably introduced into the direct conversion system. This problem is even severer in wideband systems. Therefore, the accurate estimation and compensation of I/Q imbalance is crucial. The current compensation method is based on external instruments or internal feedback path which introduces additional impairments and is expensive. This paper proposes a low cost FD I/Q imbalance self-IQ-demodulation based compensation scheme without using external calibration instruments. First, the impairments of baseband and RF components are investigated. Further, I/Q imbalance model is developed. Then, the proposed two-step self-IQ-demodulation based compensation scheme is investigated. In the first step of the scheme, the local oscillator (LO) related I/Q impairments parameters are estimated. Then in the second step, the overall FD I/Q imbalance parameters are estimated by utilizing the transmitter LO. To realize this self-IQ-demodulation algorithm, this paper introduces minor modifications to the current power detector circuit. Afterwards, the estimated parameters are applied to the baseband equivalent compensator. This sophisticated algorithm guarantees low computation complexity and low cost. In this paper, the $\eta $ -Nash equilibrium ( $\eta $ -NE) region of the two-user Gaussian interference channel (IC) with perfect output feedback is approximated to within 1 bit/s/Hz and $\eta $ arbitrarily close to 1 bit/s/Hz. The relevance of the $\eta $ -NE region is that it provides the set of rate pairs that are achievable and stable in the IC when both transmitter–receiver pairs autonomously tune their own transmit–receive configurations seeking an $\eta $ -optimal individual transmission rate. Therefore, any rate tuple outside the $\eta $ -NE region is not stable as there always exists one link able to increase by at least $\eta $ bits/s/Hz its own transmission rate by updating its own transmit–receive configuration. The main insights that arise from this paper are as follows. First, the $\eta $ -NE region achieved with feedback is larger than or equal to the $\eta $ -NE region without feedback. This letter studies the achievable rates of the two-path relay channel (TPRC), where two half-duplex relays successively in turn forward messages from a source to a destination. It is shown that the conventional analogue and digital relaying schemes incur non-negligible throughput losses due to a so-called "inter-relay-interference (IRI)" phenomenon. This letter presents a new digital relaying scheme at the source transmitter to mitigate the IRI by applying the "dirty-paper-coding (DPC)" technique. In this paper, the problem of feedback and active user selection in multiple-input single-output (MISO) wireless systems such that the system’s stability region is as big as possible is examined. The focus is on a system in a Rayleigh fading environment where zero forcing precoding is used to serve all active users in every slot. Acquisition of the channel states is done via uplink training in time division duplexing mode by the active users. Clearly, only a subset of users can perform uplink training and the selection of this subset is a challenging and interesting problem especially in MISO systems. The stability regions of a baseline centralized scheme and two novel decentralized policies are examined analytically. In the decentralized schemes, the transmitter broadcasts periodically the queue state information and the users contend for the channel in a carrier sense multiple access-based manner with parameters based on the outdated queue state information and real-time channel state information. We show that, using infrequent signaling between the base station and the users, the decentralized policies outperform the centralized policy. In addition, a threshold-based user selection and training scheme for discrete-time contention is proposed. The results of this paper imply that, as far as stability is concerned, the users must be involved in the active user selection and feedback/training decision.
