- Abstract
This book is a joint publication of the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) and the Society of Protozoologists and is the result of efforts to find a way in which protozoa research can be used to teach biology. This program puts cutting edge science into the hands of science teachers and enables students to experience a variety of hands-on activities. There are 28 investigations grouped into five sections: (1) "Protozoology Laboratory Skills"; (2) "Comparative Physiology"; (3) "Organism Interdependence"; (4) "Comparative Ecology"; and (5) "Adaptive Strategies." Each of the investigations has a student section, and a teacher section that provides materials to be photocopied for students and background information on the topic to be investigated. Appendices contain student evaluation forms; details about making lab ware, caring for microscopes, and collecting, culturing, and maintaining microorganisms; and a bibliography of reference and resource materials.
