The notion of cyber-physical convergence, which indicates the pervasive integration of digital technologies in manufacturing, has rapidly gained prominence around the world because of its potential to accelerate economic productivity gains. A question of significance but relatively little empirical scrutiny is how cyber-physical convergence is characterised and realised in innovation generation, innovation adoption and innovation policy. These issues are addressed in this doctoral thesis, resulting in three journal-format papers. The first paper characterises and operationalises the notion of cyber-physical convergence, and then measures the growth and trajectories of scholarly research associated with the notion by employing text-mining and bibliometric approaches. The second paper is an inductive case study on the relative influences of geographical and non-geographical proximity factors in the adoption of digital technologies by small- and medium-sized automotive and aerospace firms (SMEs) co-localised in North West England. The third paper is an integrative literature review of three industrial policy initiatives - Germany's Industrie 4.0, Smart Manufacturing in the U.S. and the High Value Manufacturing in the U.K. - to analyse the framing and execution of policy vision to support specific types of technologies underpinning convergence. There are three main contributions of this thesis: first, it systematically delineates the cyber-physical convergence research domain into five data-centric capabilities - namely, Monitoring, Analytics, Modelling and Simulation, Transmission and Security - and sheds light on national research performance indicators for the period 2010-2019; second, it provides micro-level evidence indicating that geographical proximity among automotive and aerospace SMEs and also other types of economic actors is not the leading factor in technology adoption, rather institutional and cognitive (knowledge) factors play a more prominent role; and third, it offers insights pertaining to policy design and implementation, with Industrie 4.0 being more explicit and comprehensive than Smart Manufacturing and High Value Manufacturing in its framing, usage and implementation of a vision to support specific types of technologies. These contributions allow deriving policy and managerial implications regarding: the significance of data in manufacturing and funding data-centric capabilities, including questions of trade-offs between funding specific capabilities; the importance of interactions with non-localised actors for the purpose of technology adoption; and the consideration and systematic execution of policy vision to support and accelerate the realisation of cyber-physical convergence.

This thesis contributes to discussions of Eurocentrism in Translation Studies (TS) and engages with the concept through the lens of scholarship on Arabic and Qurʾan translation. It calls for a reignited interest in and a deeper consideration of Eurocentrism as essential for several ongoing debates in Translation Studies, including the discipline's 'scientific' character and future development. It claims that the angle of Arabic and, especially, Qurʾan translation is a particularly valuable - and nearly unexploited - area where tensions between competing pulls in translation scholarship, including those underpinned by Eurocentrism, can play out in revealing ways. The study also draws connections between Eurocentrism, Qurʾan translation and decolonial thought - whose presence in TS remains equally marginal - in order to highlight 'decoloniality' as a useful framework for imagining a post-Eurocentric discipline. Chapter I sets out a theoretical understanding of Eurocentrism and the problems it presents within Translation Studies. Chapters II and III adopt a mixed-methods approach to examine possible manifestations of Eurocentrism within a set of publications sampled from two major TS bibliographic databases (BITRA and TSB). Bibliometrics is used to examine publication dynamics within a corpus on Arabic translation in Chapter II and Thematic Analysis is deployed to inspect thematic patterns in a sub-corpus on Qurʾan translation in Chapter III. Finally, calling on concepts from decolonial thought at large, and decolonial Islam in particular, especially those of 'border dwelling', the 'pluriverse of epistemologies' and the Islamic principle of 'tawhid', Chapter IV concludes the study by exploring avenues to address some of the issues attributed to Eurocentrism in TS. It suggests alternative ways of thinking about Qurʾan translation as an illustration of how ideas from outside the current hegemonic mainstream can begin to problematise and advance our ingrained Eurocentric thinking on translation.

- Abstract
School attendance problems are of great research interest, which is reflected in the increase of scientific publications. This increase hinders the adequate follow-up and updating of the scientific community on the subject. The aim of the present bibliometric study lies in the review of the scientific literature published on school attendance problems during 2014-2021. A bibliographic search and analysis of scientific articles was performed, obtaining a definitive sample of 700 documents. Results were extracted and analyzed for the following indicators: temporal productivity, productivity by authors, co-authorship index, productivity by journals, use of topics, research areas addressed and types of samples used. The number of publications indicates a progressive increase of interest on the subject, which has not corresponded to the creation of a specific journal on the subject. There is also evidence of the need for consensus on the topics to be used; the preference for knowing the factors associated with school attendance problems over other areas of research; and the generalized use of community samples as opposed to more specific ones. In conclusion, the characteristics researched on school attendance problems are presented; knowledge that will facilitate the establishment of intervention processes applicable to different contexts and realities.

- Abstract
Purpose: To explore gender distribution in authorship and citation parameters of articles published in five optometry journals included in the Ophthalmology category of Journal Citation Reports. Methods: The Scopus database was used to retrieve all citable articles published in 2011 and 2021 in Optometry and Vision Science, Ophthalmic & Physiological Optics, Clinical Experimental Optometry, Contact Lens and Anterior Eye and Eye & Contact Lens. Gender of first, last and single authors of all articles, and citation parameters of articles published in 2011 up to May 2023 were determined. Gender of the Editor-in-chief and of the members of the editorial board of these journals was investigated (May 2023). Results: Only one journal had a female Editor-in-chief and three journals had more males than females in their editorial board. In 2011 and 2021, 40.1% and 48.0% of articles had female first authors (¿21,948=5.770; p=0.02), and 32.7% and 39.6% had female last authors (¿21,948=4.605; p=0.03). Gender parity was observed in one journal for first author and none for last author in 2011, and in three journals for first author and one for last author in 2021. Regarding combinations of male (M) and female (F) first and last authorship positions, authors of articles in 2011 were MM (44.5%), FM (22.8%), FF (17.3%) and MF (15.4%), and MM (34.6%), FM (25.8%), FF (22.1%) and MF (17.5%) in 2021. Differences between 2011 and 2021 were statistically significant (¿23,948=9.795; p=0.02). The proportion of authorship combinations did not show statistically significant differences amongst journals, neither in 2011 nor in 2021. Neither citation nor self-citation were influenced by gender. Conclusions: Gender disparities persist in optometry journals, with females being underrepresented in senior and leadership positions. Increasing the awareness of gender disparities in authorship is a necessary step towards ensuring fairness in science in general, and optometry in particular., Peer Reviewed, Objectius de Desenvolupament Sostenible::5 - Igualtat de Gènere, Objectius de Desenvolupament Sostenible::10 - Reducció de les Desigualtats, Postprint (published version)

- Abstract
This report aims to provide an update to the two studies published in 2016 and 2017 (Osipov et al 2016 & 2017) with the primary task of assessing the global funding landscape around Arctic-related research. While the previous reports were focusing on the periods 2006-2015 and 2007-2016 respectively, this report covers 2016 to 2022, using the funding data from the Dimensions[1] dataset, which includes information from more than 600 funders and 7 million awarded grants with funding totalling $2.4 trillion+ (in US Dollars). The key findings of the updated report, based on the available data, highlight the following trends: · The fields of Earth Sciences (10.3 percent) and Environmental Science (5.5 percent) are the two largest recipients of Arctic research funding. · The US is the largest Arctic research nation in terms of total spending and number of projects started. It also has the most comprehensive coverage of funding sources in the dataset. · Canada and Russia are the second and third largest nations in terms of number of projects started, followed by Norway and Sweden. · UArctic institutions are central actors in Arctic research globally. · Researchers from Arctic Council Observer nations are financing a substantial amount of research on the Arctic. In particular, the UK and Japan finance a significant number of projects, followed by Germany and China with considerable numbers of Arctic-related research projects. · Funding from the European Union holds the position of the eighth-largest funder based on the number of projects awarded. The European Union is characterized by a few projects with large funding. · The analysis suggests that there is neither growth nor shrinkage in the relative volume of Arctic research funding over the period 2016–2022 in comparison with the growth of the general scientific community. · Private funders and foundations contribute little to Arctic research. Only one percent of th

- Abstract
The objective of this article is to evaluate the use and socio-environmental perception of the Parque Caiara urban equipment, located in the Pernambuco city of Recife, among the local population and passersby through the application of a semi-structured questionnaire. The survey contains closed and open questions and was carried out among the population who use the equipment at least twice a week and aged ten years or over. Through the qualiquantitative approach, important data related to the socio-economic profile of users was obtained, involving age group, level of education, type of work, profession and family income, as well as enumeration of the positive and negative points of the park and suggestions for improving Caiara . Furthermore, we could analyze the environmental perception of users regarding the issue of water pollution, since the park is crossed by the Cavouco stream that flows into the Capibaribe river. In this way, it was possible to collect and discuss relevant data to propose an effective requalification of the equipment. As a result, it was found that the site has significant importance in the environmental, sociocultural and sporting spheres with various sports and leisure facilities. However, for Caiara to consolidate itself as a reference urban facility, it is necessary to adapt and propose new urban furniture, uses and services suited to the real needs of the community based on listening to the local population and passers-by who use the park., O objetivo deste artigo é avaliar a utilização e percepção socioambiental do equipamento urbano Parque Caiara, localizado na cidade de Recife-PE, junto à população local e transeuntes através da aplicação de questionário semiestruturado.

- Abstract
Organizational studies allow us to analyze and understand the functioning of organizations, generate knowledge and improve their management and performance, from perspectives different from the classic ones with which the organizational phenomenon has been analyzed in a traditional way; These perspectives invite a critical look at this phenomenon. However, it is relevant to evaluate its potential to provide theories, models and tools that help advance the field of management and improve the effectiveness and sustainability of organizations. To date, no review has been identified in Scopus that synthesizes the literature on organizational studies from a bibliometric analysis, by doing so, this article provides a basis for researchers in organizational studies to learn about various future lines of research. The objective of this document is to review scientific documents published in Scopus(r) on organizational studies, to propose a structure of published scientific knowledge, so that different future lines of research are offered. 1091 documents were found that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria in the database that were processed with Bibliometrix, VosViewer and ToS. The main lines of research identified were: a) Leadership and management of organizational change; b) Changing, diverse and inclusive work environments; c) Legitimation, sustainability and organizational responsibility., Este artículo de revisión tiene como objetivo principal proponer líneas de investigación y perspectivas futuras en los estudios organizacionales.

- Abstract
This paper explores the co-evolution of international business studies and institutions, employing a scientometric approach and bibliometric review on the application of institutional concepts in international business studies, outlining a research agenda. We compiled a database of 3,520 articles and conducted a scientometric analysis to examine the evolution of the term “institutions” in international business in ABSrankedjournals. Our findings show that (1) over the past two decades, there has been a shift in the use of the term institutions from a political and economic connotation to a sociological perspective to explain how firms adopt strategies, make decisions, and address intra-nationalproblems during the internationalization process; (2) traditional approaches were found to be insufficient in explaining context-dependent events that affect international business; and (3) China has emerged as a critical player in international business studies, which has helped to redirect the focus of institutions from political and economic aspects to the sociological context.

A study of the Revista General de Información y Documentación (RGID)General Magazine of Information and Documentation (RGID), from 2005 to 2022. The objective is aimed at qualifying the structure of the research field and assessing the trajectory of the thematic areas covered. Applying as methodology the analysis of co-words, the construction of bibliometric networks and the creation of scientific maps. 514 documents are extracted from the Web of Science (WoS) database. The keywords assigned by the authors of the documents are selected and divided into three subperiods: 2005-2010, 2011-2016 and 2017-2022. In the results, 1701 author’s keywords and 37 bibliometric networks are obtained. In the period 2005-2010, the structure of the research field is represented on the scientific map with very few central and specialized topics, considering an initial and underdeveloped organization. In the period 2011-2016, the structure of the research field is distributed on the scientific map with a more varied number of central and specialized topics, but still insufficient, considering an organization in the process of development. In the period 2017-2022, the structure of the research field is shown on the map with all kinds of family of topics (central, specialized, transversal, emerging or disappearing), being valued as a dynamic, complex and heterogeneous organization. Regarding the evolution of the thematic areas, the map shows solid progress between the last two periods.

- Abstract
Purpose: This paper provides a bibliometric insight into the development of the field with the focus on the role of intangible capital in the economic literature. Design/methodology/approach: A systematic literature review of the development of the field of intangible capital is relying on bibliometric methods, combined with a standard descriptive approach to literature review to add depth. Bibliometric methods are used, focusing primarily on identifying timeline, key authors and author cooperations, most important papers, topics and most cited papers. Findings: After the Corrado et al. (2005, 2006) paper there is a significant number of papers dealing with methodology, measurement and empirical analysis, either of intangible capital as a whole or specific component. The study of the references reveals a clear indirect link between the micro and macro-level research, however a clear void between the very empirical economics and the more conceptual management field. Originality/value: It is the first such comprehensive bibliometric study of the intangible capital literature in economics, and as such complements the approach taken by very few other authors. It sheds light on the most notable authors and papers and their importance in the field, but also highlights the diversity in the literature, Peer Reviewed

- Abstract
Human sparganosis, a parasitic infection prevalent in Asia, can progress to cerebral sparganosis, a severe condition with significant neurological symptoms. Diagnosis and treatment are challenging due to its clinical similarity to other infections, highlighting the need for improved detection and management strategies. The aim of this study was to observe research trends, key contributors, gaps in the existing knowledge, diagnosis challenges, effective treatment options, and prevention strategies, providing recommendations for future research directions and clinical practice improvements on cerebral sparganosis. A bibliometric analysis was conducted by extracting 139 documents from the Scopus database in June 2024. The retrieved data were analyzed using the R package's Bibliometrix (Biblioshiny) and VOSviewer. Spanning 97 different sources, the research exhibited an annual growth rate of 2.5%. Annual scientific production revealed fluctuating research activity with peaks in 2010 and 2011 and notable citation peaks in 1996 and 2005, indicating pivotal studies that significantly influenced subsequent research. Early studies focused on diagnosis and specific parasites, while recent studies (2010–2024) have increasingly addressed clinical outcomes, treatment strategies, and advanced diagnostic techniques. Trends revealed a shift towards clinical and diagnostic advancements, with recent emphasis on diagnostic imaging, immunoassays, and the relationship between cerebral sparganosis and brain tumors. In conclusion, the studies on cerebral sparganosis underscore the potential for enhancing clinical practice by improving diagnostic accuracy, informing treatment decisions, and implementing targeted screening efforts based on epidemiology and risk factors. Recommendation to further study needs to notify the cerebral sparganosis in high-risk countries with similar socioeconomic and cultural characteristics to endemic regions, including Indonesia.

- Abstract
Purpose This bibliometric analysis of the top 100 cited articles on extended reality (XR) in neurosurgery aimed to reveal trends in this research field. Gender differences in authorship and global distribution of the most-cited articles were also addressed. Methods A Web of Science electronic database search was conducted. The top 100 most-cited articles related to the scope of this review were retrieved and analyzed for trends in publications, journal characteristics, authorship, global distribution, study design, and focus areas. After a brief description of the top 100 publications, a comparative analysis between spinal and cranial publications was performed. Results From 2005, there was a significant increase in spinal neurosurgery publications with a focus on pedicle screw placement. Most articles were original research studies, with an emphasis on augmented reality (AR). In cranial neurosurgery, there was no notable increase in publications. There was an increase in studies assessing both AR and virtual reality (VR) research, with a notable emphasis on VR compared to AR. Education, surgical skills assessment, and surgical planning were more common themes in cranial studies compared to spinal studies. Female authorship was notably low in both groups, with no significant increase over time. The USA and Canada contributed most of the publications in the research field. Conclusions Research regarding the use of XR in neurosurgery increased significantly from 2005. Cranial research focused on VR and resident education while spinal research focused on AR and neuronavigation. Female authorship was underrepresented. North America provides most of the high-impact research in this area.

- Abstract
PurposeThe study aims to promote the use of qualitative methods in service research by investigating how these methods are reported in service journals, how the level of reporting has evolved and whether methodological reporting influences the downloads or citations received by qualitative articles.Design/methodology/approachMethodological reporting practices were identified through content analysis of 318 qualitative articles published in three major service research journals and comparison with prior methodological literature. Regression analysis was used to test how the level of methodological reporting influences article downloads and citations.FindingsThe study identifies 29 reporting practices related to 9 key methodological reporting areas. The overall level of methodological reporting in published qualitative articles has increased over time. While differences in the level of reporting between service journals persist, they are narrowing. The level of methodological reporting did not influence downloads or citations of qualitative articles.Research limitations/implicationsService scholars using qualitative methods should pay attention to methodological reporting as it can improve the chances of being published. Factors such as theoretical contributions are likely to have a greater influence on article impact than methodological reporting.Originality/valueNo prior study has explored methodological reporting practices across different qualitative methodologies or how reporting influences article impact. For authors, reviewers and editors, the study provides an inventory of reporting practices relevant for evaluating qualitative articles, which should lower barriers for qualitative methods in service research by providing practical guidelines on what to focus on when reporting and assessing qualitative research.

- Abstract
We present a method, including tool support, for bibliometric mining of trends in large and dynamic research areas. The method is applied to the machine learning research area for the years 2013 to 2022. A total number of 398,782 documents from Scopus were analyzed. A taxonomy containing 26 research directions within machine learning was defined by four experts with the help of a Python program and existing taxonomies. The trends in terms of productivity, growth rate, and citations were analyzed for the research directions in the taxonomy. Our results show that the two directions, Applications and Algorithms, are the largest, and that the direction Convolutional Neural Networks is the one that grows the fastest and has the highest average number of citations per document. It also turns out that there is a clear correlation between the growth rate and the average number of citations per document, i.e., documents in fast-growing research directions have more citations. The trends for machine learning research in four geographic regions (North America, Europe, the BRICS countries, and The Rest of the World) were also analyzed. The number of documents during the time period considered is approximately the same for all regions. BRICS has the highest growth rate, and, on average, North America has the highest number of citations per document. Using our tool and method, we expect that one could perform a similar study in some other large and dynamic research area in a relatively short time.

- Abstract
There is a longstanding divide between qualitative and quantitative research methods. In the field of teaching research methods, this divide has also been found (Onwuegbuzie & Leech, 2005) almost 20 years ago. With a mixed methods approach this thesis asks and aims to answer whether this divide prevails on a structural and content level. Specifically, the research question is: "Are there structural and content differences between the research landscape on teaching quantitative research methods and teaching qualitative research methods indicating that these two are seen as separate fields or are both part of the same overarching research domain?" Firstly, the research landscape for teaching qualitative research methods of the last 10 years was analyzed quantitatively (i.e. descriptive statistics, word frequencies in abstracts, citation measures). Citation measures identified the most relevant authors and documents. A rudimentary form of content analysis, consisting of deeply reading the documents and summarizing their content, was conducted on the identified documents. Subsequently, the same procedure was repeated on the research landscape for teaching quantitative research methods. While there is an overlap between the document corpora regarding relevant articles and the most cited references, there are also discrepancies. Specifically, there are structural differences such that the literature on teaching qualitative methods seems more disjunct. Furthermore, the dataset on teaching quantitative methods had a large emphasis on integrating qualitative methods and moving towards mixed methods compared to the literature on teaching qualitative methods focusing more on the actual topic of qualitative methods.

- Abstract
[Abstract] The continuous challenges to which family firms are subjected have led research in this field to focus on various aspects, thus generating a large and heterogeneous body of literature. This paper describes the evolution, status, and trends in family business literature over the decade 2012–2022 and also identifies gaps that may require further investigation. In that regard, new opportunities for additional analyses are also determined. To this end, a bibliometric study has been carried out based on a collection of articles from the Business Source Premier, Web of Science, and Scopus databases, yielding a total of 4064 articles. We analyze the main indicators of activity in family business research over the aforementioned period. The most productive authors and institutions, leading journals, and main research topics of these publications are reflected in this analysis. Likewise, the relationships between the most frequent co-authorships within the field are mapped, as well as the connections between co-words in published articles. In addition, the 10 most influential works published during those 10 years and changes in trends related to the most popular topics, in contrast to previous years, are also highlighted.

- Abstract
Sex differences in human performance have been documented across a wide array of human endeavours. Males tend to exhibit higher performance in intellectually demanding and competitive domains, and this difference tends to be more pronounced the higher the level of performance. Here, we analyse publishing performance for the whole population of associate and full professors in relatively sex-balanced disciplines, namely Education, Nursing and Caring Science, Psychology, Public Health, Sociology, and Social Work, comprising 426 women and 562 men. We find that sex differences in the number of publications, citations, and citations per publication were small across low and medium levels of productivity, but become more pronounced the higher the level of performance. In the top performing 10% the female proportion decreases from the average 43.2% to 26% (25 F, 71 M), which further decreases to 15% in the top 5%. The results are discussed with respect to the greater male variability hypothesis, sex differences in psychological traits, and environmental factors such as sex discrimination.

- Abstract
This paper aims to analyze the scientific evolution and research trends concerning the water–energy–food (WEF) nexus, as well as its development within scientific databases. To achieve this, a bibliometric analysis has been conducted using publications sourced from Scopus and Web of science databases. This study examined key aspects such as primary journals, prominent authors, affiliated institutions, countries of origin, subject areas, and notable keywords. Furthermore, there is a dedicated section that delves into research and innovation gaps within publications related to the WEF nexus. Results reveal that research on the WEF nexus has experienced exponential growth over the past decade, with the majority of publications emerging between 2017 and 2023. The United States leads in this field, with engineering and environmental science being the predominant research categories, with Spain and Italy being the prominent countries in Europe. The WEF nexus concept in the agriculture sector is notably underdeveloped, particularly in its ties with the Sustainable Development Goals and the science–policy–society interface. The study stresses the importance of integrating health considerations into the WEF Nexus to understand the interconnections and their implications on public health, thereby enriching the Nexus approach with a critical dimension of human well-being. This situation underscores the urgent need to create a nexus community that bridges science and practice, and to incorporate this specialized discipline into university curricula., Peer Reviewed, Postprint (published version)

- Abstract
The aim of this piece of research is to study productivity and scientific collaboration in the main Spanish sociology journals from a gender perspective. The authorship of 3171 documents published in these journals during the period 2001-2020 was analysed using bibliometric and social network analysis techniques. While there was an overwhelming male dominance at the start of the period, the results show a steady trend towards parity; however, this was only achieved during the 2016-2020 period, and not in all indicators. In conclusion, gender advances in sociology research have only partially come to fruition in Spain, but the scholarly monitoring system cannot be held accountable for this., La presente investigación tiene como objetivo aplicar la perspectiva de género al estudio de la productividad y la colaboración científica en las principales revistas españolas de sociología.

- Abstract
Various zoonotic diseases have been reported as epidemics throughout the world, including in Indonesia. Various studies have been conducted related to gaps in knowledge, especially on disease distribution, etiology, pathogens, hosts, vector biology, dynamics, cycle of transmission, predisposing factors, and risk factors. To find out the dynamics of zoonotic disease study and research in Indonesia, a study was conducted to report a literature analysis that focused on bibliometric analysis of the Scopus database and VOSviewer software to create a visualization map that identified how the evolution of zoonotic diseases studies from 1977-2023 in Indonesia. In co-occurrence analysis, two units of analysis are used, namely "author keywords" and "index keywords" in VOSviewer. It showed that studies related to zoonoses in Indonesia tend to increase every year with a significant increase in 2020 and 2022. Document types are dominated by articles (72%) with subjects or research areas related to “medicine” (29%). From the "author keywords" analysis unit, the words "zoonosis" and "Indonesia" were the words that appeared the most. Meanwhile, from “index keywords” six clusters were found with the word "human" "animals", and "zoonosis" being the word that appears the most in the analysis of the studies conducted.

- Abstract
Psychopathology networks consist of aspects (e.g., symptoms) of mental disorders (nodes) and the connections between those aspects (edges). This article aims to analyze the research literature on network analysis in psychopathology and mental health for the last ten years. Statistical descriptive analysis was complemented with two bibliometric techniques: performance analysis and co-word analysis. There is an increase in publications that has passed from 1 article published in 2010 to 172 papers published in 2020. The 398 articles in the sample have 1,910 authors in total, being most of them occasional contributors. The Journal of Affective Disorders is the one with the highest number of publications on network analysis in psychopathology and mental health, followed by the Journal of Abnormal Psychology and Psychological Medicine stand out. The present study shows that this perspective in psychopathology and mental health is a recent field of study, but with solid advances in recent years from a wide variety of researchers, mainly from USA and Europe, who have extensively studied symptom networks in depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorders. However, gaps are identified in other psychological behaviors such as suicide, populations such as the elderly, and gender studies., Depto. de Personalidad, Evaluación y Psicología Clínica, Fac. de Psicología, TRUE, pub

- Abstract
Research on human resources training has been shaped by a great number of articles published in recent decades. This study contributes to the literature by examining how this research is built on the basis of different intellectual frameworks and by identifying the relevant references, authors, topics, and journals. With this aim, we used bibliometric techniques to examine over 900 articles published between 1975 and 2016. We observed three publication periods that have shaped the evolution of research in this field. In the journals that have published these articles, a wide range of disciplines have been used to address the topic of human resources. The dominant focus is on US and labor-intensive industries, giving researchers the opportunity to undertake further cross-country and cross industry studies. By considering human capital and performance, the resource-based view provides theoretical support for the articles through which leading authors have built a core grounding for the topic., Depto. de Organización de Empresas, Fac. de Ciencias Económicas y Empresariales, TRUE, pub

Objective: This research explored how time-to-event dental articles were indexed and reported, and sought solutions to help improve the reporting and identification of these articles, so that they could be more easily found and used to inform practice and research. Methods: Articles reporting time-to-event dental outcomes in humans were identified from the 50 dental journals with the highest impact factor for 2008. These were handsearched, identifying 'case' articles (n=95), active controls (likely false positives, n=91), and passive controls (other true negatives, n=6796). The medical subject headings (MESH) that had been assigned to the articles in MEDLINE, and words used in titles and abstracts describing time-to-events were compared between the 'cases' and controls. Time-to-event words and figures within articles were also sought, and reporting quality was assessed. Search strategies to identify time-toevent articles were developed, using indexing terms and free-text words. An independent cohort of articles was used to validate the search strategies, consisting of 148 time-to-event articles handsearched from 6514 articles in the 50 dental journals with the highest impact factor for 2012. The findings of the research were used to draft guidance to improve reporting, which was circulated amongst 78 stakeholder experts for comment, and modified. Results: MeSH indexing of time-to-event analyses was inconsistent and inaccurate, author descriptions in abstracts and titles varied, and the quality of time-to-event reporting and graphics in the body of those articles was poor. The burden faced by someone wishing to find and use these articles was considered high. Sensitive, precise and optimized electronic search strategies were developed and validated with sensitivities up to 92% and precisions up to 93%. The draft guidance attracted comment from 46 experts across 15 countries, with approximately 90% of the 130 comments accepted into the revised version. The importance of good quality reporting was endorsed, and there was high interest in commending the guidance to authors, reviewers, and training dental specialists. Conclusions: This research programme explored how time-to-event dental articles were reported, and used those findings to suggest solutions that would help to improve the identification and use of these data, reducing research waste.

This thesis is an examination of the printing industry in Paris between 1570 and 1590. These years represent a relatively under-researched period in the history of Parisian print. This period is of importance because of an event in 1572 – the St Bartholomew’s Day Massacre, and an event in 1588 – the Day of the Barricades and the subsequent exit from Paris of Henry III. This thesis concerns itself with the two years prior to 1572 and two years after 1588 in order to provide context, but the two supporting frames of this investigation are those important events. This thesis attempts to assess what effect those events had upon the printing industry in the foremost print centre of both France and Western Europe. With the religious situation in Paris quietened was there any concrete change in the 1570s and 1580s regarding the types of books printed in Paris? Was there any attempt to exploit this religious stability by pursuing the ‘retreating’ Protestant confession, or did the majority of printers turn away from confessional arguments and polemical literature? What were the markets for Paris books: were they predominantly local or international? The method by which these questions have been addressed is with a bibliometric analysis of the output of the Paris print shops. This statistical approach allows one to address the entire corpus of a city’s output and allows both broad surveys of the data in terms of categorisation of print, but also narrower studies of individual printers and their output. As such this approach allows the printing industry of Paris to be surveyed and analysed in a way that would otherwise be impossible. This statistical approach also allows the books to be seen as an economic item of industrial production instead of purely a culture item of artistic creation. This approach enhances rather than reduces the significance of a book’s cultural importance as it allows the researcher to fully appreciate the achievement and investment of both finance and time that was necessary for the completion of a well printed book.

This thesis seeks to demonstrate that the new facilities of Web of Science (WoS) online can be used in new ways to enhance understanding of scholarly communication. It investigates four aspects of scholarly communication: characteristics of highly cited articles, citation levels of collaborative articles, citation levels of multi-disciplinary articles, and patterns of annual citation of highly cited articles. For the first two topics it investigates the WoS category of ‘Information Science & Library Science’ (IS&LS), whereas for the other topics it compares diverse WoS categories in science and social science. Although its main data source is WoS, its investigation of disciplinarity also uses Scopus. The thesis finds: (a) Highly cited IS&LS articles tend to be multidisciplinary and cited late, but are not necessarily first-authored by influential IS&LS researchers, (b) Amongst un-cite IS&LS articles the proportion of collaborative articles has remained almost constant over the past three decades whereas for higher cited articles it has grown steadily with time, (C) In social science subjects the level of citation of multi-disciplinary research are generally similar to that of mono-disciplinary research, whereas in science the citations levels for multi-disciplinary research are substantially lower than that of mono-disciplinary research, and (d) In both science and social science many very highly cited articles continue to be heavily cited more than twenty years after publication. This thesis also introduces and uses an indicator for measuring the extent of collaboration called ‘average partner scores’ and indicates a way in which the subject categories of WoS can be investigated without requiring a licence for the WoS database. Finally, it identifies and addresses some of the technical problems of using WoS online to investigate scholarly communication.
