In psychological science, replicability—repeating a study with a new sample achieving consistent results (Parsons et al., 2022)—is critical for affirming the validity of scientific findings. Despite its importance, replication efforts are few and far between in psychological science with many attempts failing to corroborate past findings. This scarcity, compounded by the difficulty in accessing replication data, jeopardizes the efficient allocation of research resources and impedes scientific advancement. Addressing this crucial gap, we present the Replication Database (https://forrt-replications.shinyapps.io/fred_explorer), a novel platform hosting 1,239 original findings paired with replication findings. The infrastructure of this database allows researchers to submit, access, and engage with replication findings. The database makes replications visible, easily findable via a graphical user interface, and tracks replication rates across various factors, such as publication year or journal. This will facilitate future efforts to evaluate the robustness of psychological research.

The 'Dark Triad' of socially aversive personality traits (Machiavellianism, Narcissism, and Psychopathy) is typically associated with grandiosity, callousness, and exploitation. Despite this, people with such traits can be very successful in life, especially in the occupational context. This study investigated the characteristics of individuals who enable and abet people high on Dark Triad traits (e.g. through tolerating unpleasant behaviours, not challenging unethical conduct, etc.). High Dark Triad individuals may be able to identify individuals who are susceptible to social manipulation and who are therefore less likely to challenge their behaviours. This study used a 20-item Vulnerability Scale to capture the characteristics of individuals who fall victim to people high on the Dark Triad traits. Cronbach's alpha for the Vulnerability Scale was .80. Pearson's correlation between total vulnerability scores and each of the Big Five personality traits revealed that predictors of vulnerability to social manipulation include low extraversion, low conscientiousness, high neuroticism, and high agreeableness. The vignette method was used to elicit perceptions of Dark Triad behaviours from those who are found to demonstrate signs of social vulnerability. Differences in response styles on Likert-type statements and open-ended questions were found between the high and low vulnerability groups.

Interrogative suggestibility may vary as a function of interviewer’s apparent authority. This study examined individual differences in sensitivity to authority figures, focusing on non-clinical narcissism and suggestibility. As narcissists are more inclined to have a “kiss up, kick down” behaviour pattern, their suggestibility may be influenced by interviewer prestige. Narcissism is a consistent predictor of over-claiming; hence the Over-claiming Questionnaire (OCQ) was used as a measure for non-clinical narcissism. Suggestibility of over-claimers (N = 30) and under-claimers (N = 30) was assessed using the Gudjonsson Suggestibility Scale 1 (GSS1). During the administration of the GSS1, the interviewer’s apparent authority was manipulated by varying how she presented herself. It was hypothesised that participants who have high OCQ response bias indices (over-claimers) will display more suggestible tendencies, and therefore obtain higher GSS1 scores when faced with interviewers of higher prestige compared to those with low OCQ response bias indices (under-claimers). Results analysed using MANOVA showed that under-claimers generally scored significantly higher in Total Suggestibility. The main effect of interviewer’s apparent authority was non-significant. Over-claimers tested in the low interviewer prestige condition gained lower Shift scores than under-claimers. Such results are consistent with the notion that Shift is primarily based on sensitivity to interpersonal pressure. It is also suggested that the varying levels of self-esteem in over-claimers are the basis of their unique ways of responding to suggestions by authority figures.
