Recent studies have highlighted physical education (PE) as a setting for life skills development, yet little is known about how teachers can promote the development and transfer of life skills through PE. Therefore, the broad objectives of this study were to explore teacher’s perceptions of what life skills are developed through PE, how these life skills are developed in practice, and whether these life skills transfer to other life domains. A qualitative methodological design consisting of in-depth semi-structured interviews was employed to obtain detailed insights from PE teachers. Audio-recorded interviews lasting an average of 43 minutes were conducted with 11 teachers (Mage = 37.9 years; teaching experience = 14.1 years) from the northwest of England. The interviews were transcribed verbatim and analysed thematically. Five key themes were constructed during data analysis: 1) key life skills developed through PE (e.g., teamwork, communication, leadership, & resilience), 2) why life skills are needed and taught, 3) considering students’ individual needs when teaching life skills, 4) strategies for life skills development (e.g., explicit & implicit learning, teachable moments, & role modelling), and 5) the transferability of life skills to other domains (e.g., schoolwork & home life). The findings provide key insights into how teachers value life skills, support their development, and enable transfer to other areas of students’ lives.

Background and Purpose- The RE-SPECT ESUS trial (Randomized, Double-Blind, Evaluation in Secondary Stroke Prevention Comparing the Efficacy and Safety of the Oral Thrombin Inhibitor Dabigatran Etexilate Versus Acetylsalicylic Acid in Patients With Embolic Stroke of Undetermined Source) tested the hypothesis that dabigatran would be superior to aspirin for the prevention of recurrent stroke in patients with embolic stroke of undetermined source. This exploratory subgroup analysis investigates the impact of age, renal function (both predefined), and dabigatran dose (post hoc) on the rates of recurrent stroke and major bleeding. Methods- RE-SPECT ESUS was a multicenter, randomized, double-blind trial of dabigatran 150 or 110 mg (for patients aged ≥75 years and/or with creatinine clearance 30 to <50 mL/minute) twice daily compared with aspirin 100 mg once daily. The primary outcome was recurrent stroke. Results- The trial, which enrolled 5390 patients from December 2014 to January 2018, did not demonstrate superiority of dabigatran versus aspirin for prevention of recurrent stroke in patients with embolic stroke of undetermined source. However, among the population qualifying for the lower dabigatran dose, the rate of recurrent stroke was reduced with dabigatran versus aspirin (7.4% versus 13.0%; hazard ratio, 0.57 [95% CI, 0.39-0.82]; interaction P=0.01). This was driven mainly by the subgroup aged ≥75 years (7.8% versus 12.4%; hazard ratio, 0.63 [95% CI, 0.43-0.94]; interaction P=0.10). Stroke rates tended to be lower with dabigatran versus aspirin with declining renal function. Risks for major bleeding were similar between treatments, irrespective of renal function, but with a trend for lower bleeding rates with dabigatran versus aspirin in older patients. Conclusions- In subgroup analyses of RE-SPECT ESUS, dabigatran reduced the rate of recurrent stroke compared with aspirin in patients qualifying for the lower dose of dabigatran. We present a combined theoretical and mass spectrometry study of the rotational isomerism of the non-classical Wells-Dawson anions. The structure is larger than the Keggin anion and six geometric isomers are predicted (?, ?, ?, ?*, ?*, ?*) on the basis of structural arguments. This work explores the geometrical differences between the isomers and evaluates the stability of these unusual clusters based upon the inclusion of the different heteroatoms. We connect the theoretical results with experimental studies by exploring the fragmentation of the parent clusters by electrospray-ionisation mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). Both approaches show a general stability trend that can be postulated as follows: ?* > ?* > ?* > ? ? ? > ? where the isomers ?*, ?* and ? are the only anions of this type known to have been synthesised.

Before proceeding to convergent cathodes, it was modified as indicated. The first portion of this contract concentrated on reproducing the prior art of tungstate cathodes in a planar device. To summarize, while the emission has been reached for a brief period of time, the longer term emission is only about one-half of that expected. A program for improving the emission is still underway. In the meantime, two diodes with curved electrodes have been prepared. Also, a beam tester has been designed and is partially built. (Author)

Interest in the effects of suspended loads and deposited sediments on estuarine organisms has been accelerated by the present need to establish water quality criteria and standards on a national scale and by a wide variety of coastal engineering projects which involve temporary or enduring changes in the suspended loads and deposition of sediments in rivers, bays, sounds, channels, or coastal areas. Estuarine sites selected for projects are often inhabited by unusually important biotic communities which become centers of conflict among navigational, recreational, commercial fisheries, conservation, and municipal interests. This set of abstracts and summaries of pertinent reports has been prepared to assist in the evaluation of probable effects of suspended and deposited sediments.

Army Corps of Engineers expressed the intention of the Corps to initiate study of the relationships of the engineering works of the Corps to the ecology of coastal waters. The primary objective is to .· develop criteria, ·· standards and guidelines for including ecological effects in planning for water resource development. In accordance with a prospectus developed at that time, a team of consultants has been assembled and a program has been established to make an overall analysis of the problem, identify research and· special studies which will be required, and conduct or advise on such studies. The program is consistent with the Initiative Statement for FY 1970 titled "Effects of Construction Activities on the Ecology of the Coastal Zone" presented by the Corps to the National Council on Marine Resources and Engineering Development.· As proposed in their program, the consultants have reviewed the most probable ecological effects of the various types of engineering activities related to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Review has 1 .been based on the case visits by the -consultants to selected areas in Florida and South Carolina, a visit to th,e Waterways Experiment Station, certain pertinent literature, and information provided to us by the Environmental Branch, Office of the Chief of Engineers. This study looks at initial questionnaires from a longitudinal study on nutrition knowledge and intakes in Irish Dancers.
