This article deals with the improvement of noise figure for microwave active recu rsive filters. We show, using a noise wave analysis [1], how the noise factor of a first-order recursive structure can he effectively minimized, by using appropriate unbalanced power dividers/combiners in association with an amplifier of given gain and noise factor values. We start from measured results of monolithic filters and validate our approach with simulated examples.

This paper concerns active filters of the recursive type. A new design approach is presented which consists in a cascade association of unitary recursive cells in order to obtain higher-order filters and to achieve selective responses. The advantage of this approach resides in the study of simple structures (i.e. first-order recursive cells). This concept is then illustrated with an experimental active bandpass filter in the X-band. using MMIC technology.

The first step is to improve intrinsic performances of planar microstrip resonators with the help of MMIC amplifier or negative resistance chips [1]. Finally, a novel active recursive structure is also demonstrated as an MMIC.
