- Abstract
Diabetes is one of the endocrine disorders that occurs when the pancreas is either not producing enough insulin for body`s need or the cells are not responding to an insulin secreted (Kumsar, Celik, & Yilmaz, 2019). The prolonged hyperglycemia will predispose individual with type 2 diabetes mellitus to early development of diabetic associated complications such as lower limb amputation, nephropathy, retinopathy, neuropathy, and cardiovascular sequela (Molinaro & Dauscher, 2017). Seven percent of the population of Prince George's county, Maryland - or 52,448 people - has been diagnosed with diabetes, with most of these patients suffering from one or more diabetes-related complications attributed to lack of self-care management activities. This led to utilizing a mobile self-management application to enhance self-care management. The best option is to keep plasma glucose level under proper control. The Chronic Care Model will be a valuable theory that will guide the implementation of self-care behavior by individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus, leading to improvement in knowledge for self-care. A quantitative methodology with a pre-test, post-test design will be used to assess the impact of mobile self-management App on self-care activities of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The study will enroll participants between the ages of 18 to 65-year-old, receiving care in a wellness clinic located at Prince George County, Maryland, and will be selected through consecutive sampling. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 25.0 will be used to determine relation between the independent variable (mobile self-management App) and dependent variable (Knowledge for self-care). The Mobile Self-App (Glucose buddy Pro) will be used as reminders for individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus to engage in self-management behavior. Keywords: Type 2 diabetes mellitus, Plasma glucose level, Knowledge for self-care mobile self-App
