This dissertation undertakes a critical history of post-revolutionary Mexico’s literary and architectural urban utopianism, from 1919 to 1959. As the Mexican Revolution that erupted in 1910 was coming to an end, debates on what this social movement meant in urban politics was a contested terrain. Radical writers and architects of the period believed that a revolutionary production of urban space could dramatically transform the daily lives of Mexico’s population by solving basic needs that, today, we organize under the concept of social reproduction. They claimed that reproductive needs like healthcare, affordable housing, childcare, education, and recreation constituted urban rights that could be provided through imaginative and experimental forms of designing urban space, providing public services, and organizing reproductive labor collectively. To this end, they approached the aesthetic and philosophical languages of utopianism, futurism, and science fiction. The dissertation analyzes how, in objects like the science fiction novel, the futurist magazine, the socialist realism novel, or the utopian architecture project, writers and architects articulated a radical critique of capitalist urbanization and explored alternative models of urban habitation. In this project, utopianism is understood as a world-building literary and architectural practice based on political speculation and aesthetic experimentality. As mentioned before, the dissertation provides a critical history of this generation of radical utopian writers and architects. It examines their crucial shortcomings, but also the most disruptive aspects of their urban thought and aesthetic practice. Chapter 1 explores Eduardo Ursaiz’s science fiction novel Eugenia. In dialogue with Donna Haraway’s notion of “oddkin,” it explores the novel’s critique of the traditional family as a reproductive institution and its complex notion of “scientific socialism” in Yucatán. This text was designed to help adolescents develop skills which will encourage them to make healthy and positive choices about life. In addition, its design will assist adults, parents and teachers, as they guide young people through the process. The book uses a series of written exercises designed to help organize the students' goals and aspirations for life. The subjects are divided into five sections: Appreciating Differences, Personal Development, Family and Values, Making Choices, and Making a Difference. The guide contains 96 one-hour lessons, including 18 student-driven classes which are scheduled to occur once a week. Topics in the text include gender equity and cultural diversity. The stages of personal development are examined in depth, with special attention given to self-esteem, creating dreams, and skills development (communication, decision making, and time management). The importance of personal integrity and personal health are also highlighted, along with the need to maintain healthy relationships with friends and family. Since choosing a career is among the more important decisions one makes, a section on career planning is offered and is supplemented by a discussion of the importance of money management. Finally, ways that students can create change and address world problems are explored. Numerous worksheets and exercises are included to help students learn these solutions. (RJM)

The built environment — the buildings, utilities, cities and other constructed elements of theanthropocene — is becoming increasingly digitized. The complex array of equipment, sensors and other devices in these environments constitute cyberphysical systems which produce an incredible volume of data. However, this cyberphysical data is hard to access and understand because of the extreme heterogeneity and scale of the built environment: essentially every cyberphysical system is a custom-built “one-off” collection of equipment, devices and data sources that has been continually operated, retrofitted, expanded and maintained over years or even decades.This dissertation argues that existing barriers to widespread adoption of software-driven sus-tainable practices can in part be overcome through the adoption of rich, semantic metadata which enables the mass-customization of data-driven cyberphysical software. Applications will be able to query their environment for the contextual clues and metadata that they need to customize their own behavior and discover relevant data.To realize this vision, this thesis proposes a linked-data ontology — Brick — which formallydefines a graph-based data model for describing heterogeneous cyberphysical systems, and a set of ontology design principles for generalizing Brick to other domains. Brick models are created and maintained through a continuous metadata integration process also developed in the dissertation. New programming models are introduced which use graph-based metadata to implement self-adapting applications. Lastly, the thesis develops a novel data manage- ment platform, Mortar, which supports storing, serving and managing semantic metadata at scale. This demonstrates that standardized metadata representations of cyberphysical environments enable a fundamentally richer set of data-driven applications that are easier to write, deploy and measure at scale.

The National Asthma Education and Prevention Program (NAEPP) was established in 1991, with the goal to address the growing and significant national health problem of asthma. The NAEPP was last updated in 2007. CHOC Children’s (CHOC) in Orange County, California integrated an Asthma Registry into the electronic medical record (EMR) in 2015 to improve provider adherence to the NAEPP guidelines. Method: A serial cross-sectional design was used to compare change in provider management of asthma patients before an Asthma Registry with NAEPP guidelines was integrated into the EMR to after integration into the EMR. Four variables (Asthma Control Test [ACT], Asthma Action Plan [AAP], inhaled corticosteroids [ICS] and spacers) were evaluated pre-integration (2014) and compared to post-integration (2018) of the Asthma Registry. Using 2018 data, the outcomes of hospital admission, emergency department (ED) and outpatient visits with the diagnosis of asthma exacerbation were compared between the Children’s Medical Group (CMG) and the non-CMG of CHOC Health Alliance. Results: In 2018, patients were more likely to receive an ACT, (OR = 14.95, 95% CI 12.67, 17.65, p < .001), AAP, (OR = 12.70, 95% CI 11.10, 14.54, p < .001), ICS (OR =1.85, 95% CI 8.52, 14.54, p < .001) and spacer (OR= 1.45, 95% CI 1.31, <2e-16, p < .001) compared to those in 2014. In 2018, CMG patients had more asthma exacerbations than non-CMG patients (OR = 1.130, 95% CI 1.049, 1.217, p = .01). When the visit location was analyzed, only ED visits had a significant difference: patients in the CMG group were 1.35 times more like than the non-CMG to have an ED visit (95% CI 1.236, 1.476, p < .001). The increased asthma exacerbations in the CMG patients may be related to the population. The CMG group was 76.4% Hispanic and the non-CMG group was 66.9% Hispanic (2[1] = 39.71, p < .001). Many different digital representations of a building are produced over the course of its lifecycle. These representations contain the metadata required to support different stages of the building, from initial planning and design, to construction and commissioning, through operations, audits, retrofits and maintenance. However, because of differences in the semantics, structure and syntax of these representations, the metadata they contain is not interoperable. We present a novel method for leveraging these representations to create a unified, authoritative Brick metadata model for a building that can be continually maintained over the course of the building lifecycle. A simple synchronization protocol relays inferred Brick metadata from existing metadata sources such as gbXML, BuildingSync, Project Haystack and Modelica to a central integration server, which merges the metadata into a valid Brick model.

Many different digital representations of a building are produced over the course of its lifecycle. While these representations individually contain metadata required to support different stages of the building's lifecycle, they are largely not interoperable due to differences in structure, syntax and semantics. This impedes the development and deployment of data-driven applications providing fault detection and diagnosis, virtual metering or optimal control. [4] introduces a new platform for the continuous curation of a unified, Brick [1]-based metadata model that can be maintained throughout the building lifecycle. In this demonstration, we present a live proof-of-concept implementation of the platform with support for several metadata representations in the context of a simulated building lifecycle.

Mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (MSCs) may be able to improve ischemic conditions as they can actively seek out areas of low oxygen and secrete proangiogenic factors. In more severe trauma and chronic cases, however, cells alone may not be enough. Therefore, we have combined the stem cell and angiogenic factor approaches to make a more potent therapy. We developed an engineered stem cell therapy product designed to treat critical limb ischemia that could also be used in trauma-induced scarring and fibrosis where additional collateral blood flow is needed following damage to and blockage of the primary vessels. We used MSCs from normal human donor marrow and engineered them to produce high levels of the angiogenic factor vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). The MSC/VEGF product has been successfully developed and characterized using good manufacturing practice (GMP)-compliant methods, and we have completed experiments showing that MSC/VEGF significantly increased blood flow in the ischemic limb of immune deficient mice, compared to the saline controls in each study. We also performed safety studies demonstrating that the injected product does not cause harm and that the cells remain around the injection site for more than 1 month after hypoxic preconditioning. An on-demand formulation system for delivery of the product to clinical sites that lack cell processing facilities is in development.

Open datasets exist, but they are limited in their span (how much data is available) and context (what kind of data is available and how it is described). Evaluation of such analytics is also limited by how the analytics themselves are implemented, often using hard-coded names of building components, points and locations, or unique input data formats. To advance the methodology for how such analytics are implemented and evaluated, we present Mortar: an open testbed for portable building analytics, currently spanning 90 buildings and containing over 9.1 billion data points. All buildings in the testbed are described using Brick, a recently developed metadata schema, providing rich functional descriptions of building assets and subsystems. We also propose a simple architecture for writing portable analytics applications that are robust to the diversity of buildings and can configure themselves based on context. We demonstrate the utility of Mortar by implementing 11 applications from the literature.

Bone remodeling is a lifelong process in which mature bone tissue is removed from the skeleton by bone resorption and is replenished by new during ossification or bone formation. The remodeling cycle requires both the differentiation and activation of two cell types with opposing functions; the osteoclast, which orchestrates bone resorption, and the osteoblast, which orchestrates bone formation. The differentiation of these cells from their respective precursors is a process which has been overshadowed by enigma, particularly because the precise osteoclast precursor has not been identified and because the identification of skeletal stem cells, which give rise to osteoblasts, is very recent. Latest advances in the area of stem cell biology have enabled us to gain a better understanding of how these differentiation processes occur in physiological and pathological conditions. In this review we postulate that modulation of stem cells during inflammatory conditions is a necessary prerequisite of bone remodeling and therefore an essential new component to the field of osteoimmunology. In this context, we highlight the role of transcription factor nuclear factor of activated T cells cytoplasmic 1 (NFATc1), because it directly links inflammation with differentiation of osteoclasts and osteoblasts. Habitat use is expected to be adaptive with individuals occupying habitats that confer high fitness. Breeding habitat use in particular has a strong influence on offspring survival. Although environmental factors that determine use of breeding sites are generally well studied, some gaps still exist regarding our understanding of the effects of temporal variation in vegetation, predation, and temperature on offspring growth and survival. I first investigated whether nest site use and nest survival shifted across 28 years with a decrease in vegetation abundance. Orange-crowned warblers (Oreothlypis celata) showed preference for patches with more canyon maple (Acer grandidentatum) and did not shift nest site use. Nest survival was highly correlated with maples and did not shift across years. Nest substrate shifted from maple to leaf litter, but nesting under litter did not increase nest survival. I concluded that shifting or not habitat use may depend on the availably of preferred habitat and the availability of better options to choose from. Breeding habitats vary significantly in quality and can be positively correlated with individual quality. Individuals usually re-nest more than once due to predation, and yet, we do not know why quality varies across successive breeding sites. I tested three non-mutually exclusive hypotheses to explain variation in quality. The “optimizing nest survival” hypothesis explained first nesting attempts and predicted that nest quality increases as nest predation increases during the breeding season. Individuals did not maximize nest survival because they probably gained thermoregulation benefits from less concealed nests during cold weather at the beginning of the breeding season. Individual quality based on arrival date from spring migration did not explain differences in nest quality. Further tests regarding the effect of individual quality on offspring survival and movement within territories suggested that nest site selection did no

El presente estudio tiene como objetivo analizar el sector eólico en España, centrándose en la repotenciación de los parques eólicos que mejores características presentan y así determinar su viabilidad técnico-económica. Tras realizar un previo análisis, tanto del mercado eléctrico Español como de la evolución que ha tenido la normativa referente al sector eólico, se procede a la selección de los parques. Elegir estas localizaciones se debe a que se trata de regiones de España que cuentan con mayor recurso eólico. Debido a esto su explotación comenzó en los primeros años del sector eólico en el país. Por ello sus parques eólicos están siendo los primeros en quedarse obsoletos lo que hace necesaria su repotenciación. Posteriormente, se realiza un análisis técnico utilizando la herramienta que nos ofrece el IDAE, para obtener una estimación de la producción energética de las posibles opciones de repotenciación. In the Western world, lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death. It is usually presented as non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and small cell lung cancer (SCLC). NSCLC accounts for 85% of all lung cancers. FDG PET/CT has an established role in the staging and management of NSCLC and also plays an increasingly important role in radiotherapy planning. Currently about half of the patients diagnosed with malignancy are subjected to a radiation treatment, alone or in combination with another treatment. To define the volumes of treatment, CT is the standard diagnostic test. A precise definition of tumour volume to be irradiated is a prerequisite for successful radiotherapy. For all these reasons it is important for the radiation oncologist to have the availability of molecular imaging methods. PET has the potential to provide this type of information, which has led to the definition of a new concept, the biological target volume (BTV) added to classic radiotherapy and volumes defined by the currently used ICRU 50- 62 and 83...

ABSTRACT We present XBOS, an eXtensible Building Operating System for integrated management of previously isolated building subsystems. The key contribution of XBOS is the development of the Building Profile, a canonical, executable description of a building and its subsystems that changes with a building and evolves the control processes and applications accordingly. We discuss the design and implementation of XBOS in the context of 6 dimensions of an effective BAS – hardware presentation layer, canonical metadata, control process management, building evolution management, security , scalable UX and API – and evaluate against several recent building and sensor management systems. Lastly, we examine the evolution of a real, 10 month deployment of XBOS in a 7000 sq ft office building.

Los indicadores para la medición de la responsabilidad social corporativa se están convirtiendo en el recurso más utilizado por éstas, y más concretamente el Global Reporting Initiative, actualmente en su versión G4. La elaboración de memorias de responsabilidad social facilitará a las organizaciones la rendición de cuentas de manera transparente para medir y dar a conocer su desempeño económico, ambiental y social. El estudio se enmarca dentro las distintas acciones que se están desarrollando en la Unión Europea para solucionar el problema que plantean los residuos orgánicos, promoviendo procesos de valorización que permitan su aprovechamiento. Destacando entre estos, en primer lugar, los ganaderos que son la mayor fuente de residuos orgánicos producida en la Unión Europea, especialmente los del sector porcino como generador de purines por su alto riesgo de contaminación por nitratos y fosfatos de aguas superficiales y acuíferos.; y, en segundo lugar, la fracción orgánica de los residuos sólidos urbanos (FORSU). Esta tesis se centra en estudio de la co-digestión de purín y FORSU utilizando como co-sustratos los residuos obtenidos en el proceso de biodiésel, a fin de incrementar la estabilidad del sistema y la producción de metano.

The main objective of the 2002 constitutional reform to article 113 of CPEUM was to settle the bases of a State’s patrimonial responsibility system that would improve the quality of the Public Administration. However, nowadays that reform is practically dead letter. The Supreme Court of the Nation (SCJN) discussed in plenary sessions on January 28th, 29th and February 7th, 2008, the Judicial Review 4/2004 promoted by Deputies of the Third Legislature of the Assembly of Representatives. The Deputies denounced the invalidity of the articles 389, 391, 392 of the Financial Code of the Federal District, that regulate the objective responsibility of the authorities of the Federal District and the procedure to demand the repair of damages. The SCJN established in its resolution a new criterion for the interpretation of the patrimonial responsibility of the State stated in article 113 of the Constitution. The proposed criterion of interpretation indicates the scope of application of the patrimonial responsibility of the State in the country, and determines the minimum requirements to fulfill it. This interpretation generates different incentives on agents ruled by the norm. In order to analyze the new scheme, this paper uses the economic model of torts. The model is applied to each one of the rules of responsibility and the incentives they generate for the receiving agents of this standardization. Once studied these rules, and the incentives generated by them, we conclude that by establishing the standard regulated by the norms applied to the of public administration activity, the criterion of interpretation proposed by the SCJN establishes the bases to eliminate the perverse incentives previously generated by the rule of strict patrimonial responsibility. By this means the paper pretends to preset some considerations that may be helpful to get an effective and efficient system of State’s patrimonial responsibility in Mexico, with the porpoise that new or local legislations

This paper has the purpose of highlighting the role of lawyers in the justice system. It attempts to provide a basic conceptual framework for the analysis of lawyer performance as it relates to the operation of the administration of justice in Mexico, especially in criminal cases. For such purpose, and after presenting an overview of legal education and the legal profession in Mexico, the professional effectiveness of lawyers and their role as intermediaries between the justice system and society are examined. This allows identifying the main avenues for future reform, but much will depend also on having a more detailed and precise description of the actual behavior of lawyers and on an open and public debate on their proper role in the judicial process.

La modificación de polímeros es uno de los métodos mas rápidos, económicos y eficaces para la obtención de materiales con propiedades mejoradas a partir de polímeros convencionales. En este trabajo se ha desarrollado la síntesis de polímeros entrecruzados a base de policloruro de vinilo, empleando para ello dos métodos bien diferenciados: en primer lugar, se han obtenido polímeros entrecruzados en un solo paso, mediante procesado reactivo en estado fundido con organosilanos, lo que confiere a este trabajo un marcado interés tecnologico. El estudio de la relación (condiciones de reacción y procesado/grado de entrecruzamiento/ propiedades del material) ha permitido la optimización del proceso para la obtención de materiales con buenas propiedades mecanicas y termicas. En segundo lugar, se ha llevado a cabo el entrecruzamiento de policloruro de vinilo en disolución en dos pasos, uno previo, en el que el polimero es modificado por sustitucion mediante el injerto de un reactivo nucleofilo portador de grupos hidroxilo, segundo de un paso posterior en el que tiene lugar el entrecruzamiento de las cadenas por reacción de los grupos oh con un diisocianato. Esto permite conocer con toda exactitud el numero de puntos de entrecruzamiento. Se han estudiado las cinéticas de modificación y entrecruzamiento, y se ha realizado una completa caracterización de los polímeros modificados y de las redes obtenidas a partir de estos, lo que ha permitido conocer perfectamente la relación entre la estructura de los polímeros y sus propiedades, las cuales se han visto ampliamente mejoradas respecto al polímero de partida. Finalmente, el estudio de las propiedades de transporte de fluidos en dichos polímeros muestra que es posible modificar estas en función del grado de entrecruzamiento y numero de grupos oh presentes en las redes

En esta memoria se recogen los resultados experimentales análisis y discursión de un trabajo sobre la quimisorción de dióxido de carbono sobre oxido de escandio. El trabajo experimental comenzó con un estudio sobre la caracterización estructural y textural del adsorbente la influencia del tratamiento térmico y la desgasificación sobre el grado de hidroxilación de su superficie. Una vez puesto a punto el sistema y estudiadas las condiciones de operación se procedió a la determinación de una serie de isotermas de adsorción en un intervalo entre -78 y 300 c a presiones entre 1 y 500 torr.

Los conflictos son inherentes a las relaciones humanas: un embate de deseos, intereses, pulsiones o creencias que las partes involucradas consideran inalcanzables simultáneamente. Sin embargo, en un país demoscrático y plural la sociedad debe asumirse como responsable no sólo de sus conflictos, sino también de la búsqueda de soluciones, y para ello necesita contar con diversas vías para abordar sus problemas y resolverlos. Manejo de conflictos y mecanismos alternativos de solución de controversias (MASC) expone diferentes tipos de conflicto y proporciona herramientas eficaces para promover el diálogo entre las partes en disputa. Este manual, además, busca desarrollar en el lector las habilidades necesarias para la negociación y la creación de soluciones creativas a fin de construir acuerdos legítimos y efectivos en lugar de las formas tradicionales, como el uso del poder y el abuso de la opción judicial.

En esta obra colectiva volvemos sobre viejas polémicas que la marea feminista reabre, así como nuevos y complejos interrogantes que plantea la realidad. Entre esas polémicas que hoy recobran actualidad abordamos aquí la relación patriarcado-Estado, la frontera entre las distintas corrientes reformistas y el feminismo revolucionario, así como la construcción de este último. A su vez, respecto de lo nuevo, incluimos el aborto como derecho hoy en disputa, la cruzada fundamentalista religioso-política, la validez o no del punitivismo ante la violencia machista; los dilemas de la gestación subrogada, el trabajo doméstico y la prostitución o trabajo sexual; las políticas de identidad e interseccionalidad y los desafíos del movimiento LGBTI+

"Entretejer espacios para aprender y convivir en el aula" es una propuesta que desafía las concepciones tradicionales de práctica y formación docentes al ofrecer una mirada compleja, respetuosa y crítica de este quehacer. Desde el interaccionismo y la sociología crítica, las autoras desarrollan una propuesta para la formación inicial y continua de los profesores, que los ayudará a reflexionar, analizar y recrear la docencia con el fin de construir oportunidades para el aprendizaje y la convivencia de sus estudiantes. Este libro es una nueva propuesta teórica y metodológica enfocada al trabajo en el aula; un texto indispensable para docentes, directivos escolares, formadores e investigadores interesados en mejorar las prácticas en el aula.

Sin embargo, en un país demoscrático y plural la sociedad debe asumirse como responsable no sólo de sus conflictos, sino también de la búsqueda de soluciones, y para ello necesita contar con diversas vías para abordar sus problemas y resolverlos. Manejo de conflictos y mecanismos alternativos de solución de controversias (MASC) expone diferentes tipos de conflicto y proporciona herramientas eficaces para promover el diálogo entre las partes en disputa. Este manual, además, busca desarrollar en el lector las habilidades necesarias para la negociación y la creación de soluciones creativas a fin de construir acuerdos legítimos y efectivos en lugar de las formas tradicionales, como el uso del poder y el abuso de la opción judicial.

En esta obra colectiva volvemos sobre viejas polémicas que la marea feminista reabre, así como nuevos y complejos interrogantes que plantea la realidad. Entre esas polémicas que hoy recobran actualidad abordamos aquí la relación patriarcado-Estado, la frontera entre las distintas corrientes reformistas y el feminismo revolucionario, así como la construcción de este último. La insuficiencia de recursos económicos que presentó el Estado español a causa de la crítica situación financiera y las exigencias provenientes de la Unión Europea, ha provocado la necesidad de buscar nuevos medios de financiación, para impedir la disminución, tanto cualitativa como cuantitativamente, de los servicios prestados por la Administración de Justicia. La implantación de las Tasas Judiciales fue objeto de críticas y propuestas contrarias, provenientes de grupos sociales y políticos, así como el origen de enfrentamientos entre los Entes Autonómicos y el Estado por la falta de limitación de competencias entre la Administración de Justicia en sí y la administración de la Administración de Justicia. Pese a lo que pudiera pensarse, las tasas judiciales no son una figura novedosa, pues ya desde el año 1959 existían aranceles judiciales para el acceso a la justicia, que han sufrido múltiples reformas, derogaciones y actualizaciones hasta los actuales tributos regulados en la Ley 10/2012, la cual se ha desarrollado y modificado por numerosos Reales Decretos y Órdenes Ministeriales, hasta encontrarse en la situación actual. Presupuestariamente, las tasas judiciales han cumplido su objetivo recaudatorio superando las expectativas indicadas por el Gobierno, pero también han dado lugar a un notable efecto disuasorio, evitando la interposición de escritos no suficientemente fundamentados.
