Health systems across the world are struggling to manage it. Added to this struggle are the effects of social confinement and isolation. This brings into question whether the latest guidelines are relevant in this crisis. We aim to support urologists in this difficult situation by providing tools that can facilitate decision making, and to minimise the impact and risks for both patients and health professionals delivering urological care, whenever possible. We hope that the revised recommendations will assist urologist surgeons across the globe to guide the management of urological conditions during the current COVID-19 pandemic.

This research developed a qualitative Case Study to explore the role of coaching and mentoring in supporting the alignment of academic staff and organisational strategy. The study employed documentary data, interviews and a questionnaire to examine a four year period of a seven year change programme at a University in Southern England. Documents provide background to the case. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with fourteen leaders, two external coaches and eleven internal mentors. A questionnaire completed by thirty six academics preceded six semi-structured interviews with academic staff. Participant perceptions of alignment and their experiences of coaching and mentoring were analysed using a data coding approach influenced by Grounded Theory. As a result of this study, the researcher developed a Model for Improving Credibility in Insider Research to demonstrate how they dealt with the challenges of being an employee of the organisation in which the research was completed. The study shows how a new Strategic Plan impacted on academic staff roles. In responding to the changes, academics were faced with career, role, time and psychological challenges. The findings indicate that the alignment of academic staff and organisational strategy does not need to be a tension, but that it can provide opportunities for both organisation and individual if they can identify and focus on ways to fill the gap between them. The Individual and Organisation Alignment Map, developed from this study, demonstrates a new understanding of alignment of the individual within the organisational context. Coaching and mentoring helped academics to respond to the challenges by providing support for a focus on the future and forward momentum, as well as role implementation and psychological support. A new model showing how The Transitional Space Provided by Coaching and Mentoring can provide support for outer and inner world challenges has been developed as a result of this research. In

Item does not contain fulltext, Children with neurological disabilities frequently have problems with feeding and swallowing. Such problems have a significant impact on the health and well-being of these children and their families. The primary aims in the rehabilitation of pediatric feeding and swallowing disorders are focused on supporting growth, nutrition and hydration, the development of feeding activities, and ensuring safe swallowing with the aim of preventing choking and aspiration pneumonia. Pediatric feeding and swallowing disorders can be divided into four groups: transient, developmental, chronic or progressive.This article provides an overview of the available literature about the rehabilitation of feeding and swallowing disorders in infants and children. Principles of motor control, motor learning and neuroplasticity are discussed for the four groups of children with feeding and swallowing disorders.

The vegetation of Peery Lake area, Paroo-Darling National Park (32°18’–32°40’S, 142°10’–142°25’E) in north western New South Wales was assessed using intensive quadrat sampling and mapped using extensive ground truthing and interpretation of aerial photograph and Landsat Thematic Mapper satellite images. 378 species of vascular plants were recorded from this survey from 66 families. Species recorded from previous studies but not noted in the present study have been added to give a total of 424 vascular plant species for the Park including 55 (13%) exotic species. Twenty vegetation communities were identified and mapped, the most widespread being Acacia aneura tall shrubland/tall open-shrubland, Eremophila/Dodonaea/Acacia open shrubland and Maireana pyramidata low open shrubland. One hundred and fifty years of pastoral use has impacted on many of these communities.

Finding practical dysphagia opportunities for students pre-qualifi cation is challenging. Discussions with clinicians led to the development of a new placement model. The placement was just five days and had an accompanying workbook. The current study aimed to evaluate the benefits of the placement. Data were analysed from 40 students who attended an adult dysphagia placement and 13 who attended a paediatric dysphagia placement. Measures included a pre and post self-rating questionnaire, qualitative feedback from clinical educators and students and a pre and post measure of knowledge using concept maps. Student self-rating data indicated gains in experience, awareness, knowledge, clinical skills, competence, confidence and interest in dysphagia. Clinical educators and students also reported a range of benefits from this placement. Students who undertook a placement that focused on adult dysphagia significantly increased their knowledge of adult dysphagia, but this did not generalize to paediatric dysphagia. Despite reporting that they felt they had gained in knowledge of dysphagia, the students who did a paediatric dysphagia placement did not significantly increase their knowledge of dysphagia. The study raises a number of important considerations when designing placements including length, timing, intensity, how best to encourage generalization of knowledge, and how best to measure learning.

A review of the published literature on the reliability of liquid penetrant testing (LPT) identified twelve major probability of detection (POD) studies conducted between 1968 and 2009. Based on these studies, significant variability in performance is inferred between different implementations of the post-emulsifiable LPT process. This report presents statistical inferences for the defect size expected to be detected with 90% POD by most implementations of post-emulsifiable LPT, based on the published data. The reliably-detectable defect size of aNDI = 3 mm currently specified for the Royal Australian Air Force general procedure for post-emulsifiable LPT is consistent with estimates of the average performance of LPT demonstrated in the literature.

Phenylketonuria (PKU) is caused by hepatic phenylalanine hydroxylase (PAH) deficiency and is associated with systemic accumulation of phenylalanine (Phe). Previously we demonstrated correction of murine PKU after intravenous injection of a recombinant type 2 adeno-associated viral vector pseudotyped with type 8 capsid (rAAV2/8), which successfully directed hepatic transduction and Pah gene expression. Here, we report that liver PAH activity and phenylalanine clearance were also restored in PAH-deficient mice after simple intramuscular injection of either AAV2 pseudotype 1 (rAAV2/1) or rAAV2/8 vectors. Serotype 2 AAV vector (rAAV2/2) was also investigated, but long-term phenylalanine clearance has been observed only for pseudotypes 1 and 8. Therapeutic correction was shown in both male and female mice, albeit more effectively in males, in which correction lasted for the entire period of the experiment (>1 year). Although phenylalanine levels began to rise in female mice at about 8-10 months after rAAV2/8 injection they remained only mildly hyperphenylalaninemic thereafter and subsequent supplementation with synthetic tetrahydrobiopterin resulted in a transient decrease in blood phenylalanine. Alternatively, subsequent administration of a second vector with a different AAV pseudotype to avoid immunity against the previously administrated vector was also successful for long-term treatment of female PKU mice. Overall, this relatively less invasive gene transfer approach completes our previous studies and allows comparison of complementary strategies in the development of efficient PKU gene therapy protocols.

In order to apply UWB technology to a communication system, channel measurement and analysis of UWB signals in the 3.1~10.6 GHz frequency-band become necessary. This paper presents the propagation measurement results for the devices based on the Direct Sequence Ultra Wideband (DS-UWB) technology, which includes the open-space channel, emulated conditions for channels inside an aircraft, as well as measurements inside a large aircraft. The measurements and performance evaluations focus on the BER vs. power level, data-rate, coding parameter and range. The set of collected parameters from our experiment results may be used to develop realistic models for a range of UWB channel.

The dissolution of lithium salts in linear poly(ethylene imine) has been investigated because of its possible role as a solid electrolyte in lithium batteries. Lithium salts included in the study are LiF, LiCl, LiBr, LiI, LiSCN, LiCl104 and LiBF4. When cast from solution in a common solvent, a uniform mixture is obtained (expect for the case of LiF). Interaction of the salt and polymer can be characterized by observing a loss in crystallinity of the polymer and an increase in the glass transition temperature. At concentrations of salt below 10 mole percent, the polymer can slowly recrystallize at room temperature but at higher concentrations, the mixture remains amorphous for an indefinite period of time. DC conductivity at room temperature is about .0000001 S/cm but increases to .001 S/cm at 150 C. (Author)

Linear PEI has been chemically modified in an attempt to prevent formation of a crystalline complex without altering its ability to dissolve salts and conduct ions. Three main systems were investigated: a) poly(N-acetylethylene imine), b) partially quaternized PEI with ethyl or butyl groups, and c) PEI cross-linked with diepoxyoctane. Dissolution of salt was followed by x-ray diffraction on the mixtures and changes in T sub g as determined by DSC. In all cases, the crystallinity was destroyed but conductivity of salt-containing polymer was not improved. However, lightly cross-linked PEI exhibits much improved mechanical properties and the incorporation of .05 mole NaI/mole of monomer yields a conductivity of .00005 S/cm at 100 C. (Author)

Pitot measurements have long proved satisfactory for measuring flows from most sources encountered in the air pollution work. Occasionally an operation is encountered which exhibits such wide flow variation with time that pitot measurements are meaningless. Two methods have been developed which measure the volume rate of discharge from such sources. A detailed description of each method and the results of the field testing of both are given. The intent of the study was to determine the most economical, effective and technically feasible method of treating the millions of gallons of untreated sewage being discharged from Naval vessels operating in restricted waters. The report provides conceptual design and costs for facilities to accept ship sewage for treatment and disposal at Naval activities in the eastern area of the United States, including Puerto Rico. Volume 1 developes the criteria including ship berthing and sewage flow data, unit prices, cost factors, saltwater sewage effects on sewerage facilities and other pertinent engineering data; presents and discusses the engineering development and cost data for sewerage facilities at each activity, and summarizes the findings of the study. The report contains maps and drawings showing existing conditions, ship berthing and proposed sewerage facilities for 40 activities under the study. There are two berthing plans shown for most of these activities. They are designated, 'Design Maximum Loading of Individual Berthing Facilities', showing the maximum berthing capability of each pier, wharf and quay; and 'Typical Berth Employment for a Maximum Day', showing the maximum ship berthing experienced or expected at the port, except during a national emergency. These berthing plans were used to design the proposed sewerage systems as described in Volume I. Shore facilities, to receive ship sewage, have been constructed at the Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois.
