We present a novel approach to predicting the pressure and flow rate of flexible electrohydrodynamic pumps using the Kolmogorov-Arnold Network. Inspired by the Kolmogorov-Arnold representation theorem, KAN replaces fixed activation functions with learnable spline-based activation functions, enabling it to approximate complex nonlinear functions more effectively than traditional models like Multi-Layer Perceptron and Random Forest. We evaluated KAN on a dataset of flexible EHD pump parameters and compared its performance against RF, and MLP models. KAN achieved superior predictive accuracy, with Mean Squared Errors of 12.186 and 0.001 for pressure and flow rate predictions, respectively. The symbolic formulas extracted from KAN provided insights into the nonlinear relationships between input parameters and pump performance. These findings demonstrate that KAN offers exceptional accuracy and interpretability, making it a promising alternative for predictive modeling in electrohydrodynamic pumping.

We present a near-real-time global gridded daily CO2 emissions dataset (GRACED) throughout 2021. GRACED provides gridded CO2 emissions at a 0.1° × 0.1° spatial resolution and 1-day temporal resolution from cement production and fossil fuel combustion over seven sectors, including industry, power, residential consumption, ground transportation, international aviation, domestic aviation, and international shipping. GRACED is prepared from the near-real-time daily national CO2 emissions estimates (Carbon Monitor), multi-source spatial activity data emissions and satellite NO2 data for time variations of those spatial activity data. GRACED provides the most timely overview of emissions distribution changes, which enables more accurate and timely identification of when and where fossil CO2 emissions have rebounded and decreased. Uncertainty analysis of GRACED gives a grid-level two-sigma uncertainty of value of ±19.9% in 2021, indicating the reliability of GRACED was not sacrificed for the sake of higher spatiotemporal resolution that GRACED provides. Continuing to update GRACED in a timely manner could help policymakers monitor energy and climate policies' effectiveness and make adjustments quickly.

Objective: To evaluate the feasibility of an internet-facilitated community model for cervical cancer screening using self-collected HPV testing as primary screening. Method: A population-based cervical cancer screening program was conducted in the suburb of Shenzhen, China, from September 2014 to July 2017. Women with 25–60 years of age and no pregnancy were eligible for participation. Participants could register for screening by logging in a website by themselves or with the aids of local community workers. A unique barcode was issued to each applicant upon successful registration. After registration, women could get sampling kits from community screening site/study clinic, collect vaginal samples privately or in group, and provide their sample for Hr-HPV tests on Cobas4800 and SeqHPV assays. Testing reports were checkable through personal account for all participant and phone calls were given to all women positive of Hr-HPV. Participants positive of both or either the 2 assays were identified as the positives. The positives could return the study clinic for triage or search medical care in other clinics. Colposcopy directed or ramdom biopsies were performed on all positives who returned to the study clinics. Results: A total of 10,792 community women registered for screening, among whom, 10,010 provided their vaginal samples for tests. 99.5% of the participants were confirmed to have correct personal identifiable information and samples, and 98.9% of them got HPV testing results from both or either assays. No adverse event was reported. Conclusion: When self-collected HPV testing is used as the primary testing, the internet-based data platform facilitates the screening in registration, data collection, and data tracking, and increases the screening coverage. Internet-facilitated community model is promising to cervical cancer control and applicable in regions with variety of resources. © 2023, The Author(s).

Web image datasets curated online inherently contain ambiguous in-distribution (ID) instances and out-of-distribution (OOD) instances, which we collectively call non-conforming (NC) instances. In many recent approaches for mitigating the negative effects of NC instances, the core implicit assumption is that the NC instances can be found via entropy maximization. For "entropy" to be well-defined, we are interpreting the output prediction vector of an instance as the parameter vector of a multinomial random variable, with respect to some trained model with a softmax output layer. Hence, entropy maximization is based on the idealized assumption that NC instances have predictions that are "almost" uniformly distributed. However, in real-world web image datasets, there are numerous NC instances whose predictions are far from being uniformly distributed. To tackle the limitation of entropy maximization, we propose $(\alpha, \beta)$-generalized KL divergence, $\mathcal{D}_{\text{KL}}^{\alpha, \beta}(p\|q)$, which can be used to identify significantly more NC instances. Theoretical properties of $\mathcal{D}_{\text{KL}}^{\alpha, \beta}(p\|q)$ are proven, and we also show empirically that a simple use of $\mathcal{D}_{\text{KL}}^{\alpha, \beta}(p\|q)$ outperforms all baselines on the NC instance identification task. Building upon $(\alpha,\beta)$-generalized KL divergence, we also introduce a new iterative training framework, GenKL, that identifies and relabels NC instances. When evaluated on three web image datasets, Clothing1M, Food101/Food101N, and mini WebVision 1.0, we achieved new state-of-the-art classification accuracies: $81.34\%$, $85.73\%$ and $78.99\%$/$92.54\%$ (top-1/top-5), respectively., Comment: Published (with open access) at International Journal of Computer Vision (IJCV, 2023). 25 pages, 8 figures. Background: The aim of the study was to investigate the risk of human papillomavirus (HPV) genotyping particularly vaccine genotypes and multiple infections for cervical precancer and cancer, which might contribute to developing genotype-specific screening strategy and assessing potential effects of HPV vaccine. Methods: The HPV genotypes were identified using the Seq HPV assay on self-collected samples. Hierarchical ranking of each genotype was performed according to positive predictive value (PPV) for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia 2/3 or worse (CIN2+/CIN3+). Multivariate logistic regression model was used to estimate the odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence interval (CI) of CIN2+ according to multiplicity of types and vaccine types. Results: A total of 2811 HPV-positive women were analyzed. The five dominant HPV genotypes in high-grade lesions were 16/58/52/33/18. The overall ranking orders were HPV16/33/35/58/31/68/18/ 56/52/66/51/59/45/39 for CIN2+ and HPV16/33/31/58/45/66/52/18/35/56/51/68/59/39 for CIN3+. The risks of single infection versus co-infections with other types lower in the hierarchy having CIN2+ were not statistically significant for HPV16 (multiple infection vs. single infection: OR = 0.8, 95%CI = 0.6-1.1, P = 0.144) or other genotypes (P > 0.0036) after conservative Bonferroni correction. Whether HPV16 was present or not, the risks of single infection versus multiple infection with any number (2, ≥2, or ≥ 3) of types for CIN2+ were not significantly different. In addition, HPV31/33/45/52/58 covered by nonavalent vaccine added 27.5% of CIN2, 23.0% of CIN3, and 12.5% of cancer to the HPV16/18 genotyping. These genotype-groups were at significantly higher risks than genotypes not covered by nonavalent vaccine. Moreover, genotypes covered by nonavalent vaccine contributed to 85.2% of CIN2 lesions, 97.9% of CIN3 and 93.8% of cancers. Here, we report a rare case of secondary pulmonary syphilis, which was diagnosed by metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF). Direct pulmonary involvement by T. pallidum was suggested by a positive mNGS result in BALF. One month after treatment with benzathine penicillin G (2.4 million units, three doses), a repeated CT scan showed the radiological resolution. Objective: To verify the association of high-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) viral load reflected by cycle threshold (Ct) values from HPV testing on Cobas4800 assay with the histologic grades of cervical lesions via analysis on the combined data from two cervical cancer screening trials and to explore the referability of Ct values in management of the abnormalities from cervical cancer primary screening. Methods: We analyzed the data from Chinese Multi-Center Screening Trial (CHMUST) and BUJI Cervical Cancer Screening Study Project (BUJI Study). All data to be analyzed in this paper were related to provider-collected samples. One-way ANOVA was performed to compare the Ct values among different histological groups, and Kendall’s tau-b correlation was applied to examine the association between Ct values and cervical lesion grades. The stepwise incidence of CIN2+ and CIN3+ in every 100 HPV positive individuals were calculated according to the descending of the genotype specific Ct values. The highest Ct values related to CIN3+ incidence rate 4% (or 25%) were used as the cutoffs to distinguish low-Ct value cases from the high-Ct value ones. Results: A total of 1376 women in CHUMUST and BUJI Study who were aged 30–59 and positive of hrHPV for provider-collected samples on Cobas4800 with complete data in terms of the relevant Ct values (CtV) and the histological diagnosis were included for analysis. Our data showed significant difference among different histological grades of cervical lesions in the CtV of hrHPV, HPV16-plus (positive of HPV16 only or HPV16 plus 18 and/or pooled 12-HPV), and pooled 12-HPV (P < 0.05). No significant difference was found among different grades of lesions in term of correlated CtV of HPV18-plus (positive of HPV18 only or HPV18 plus pooled 12-HPV) (P > 0.05). Objective: Self-sampling for human papillomavirus (HPV) testing is an effective option to increase the cervical screening coverage. How to best triage HPV-positive self-samples remains controversial. Here, we evaluated the performance of a novel p16INK4a immunocytology approach (p16) and HPV genotyping in triaging HPV-positive self-samples. Methods: A cohort of 73699 women were screened via SeqHPV assay on self-samples. HPV-positive women who met any sequential positive result of HPV16/18 or VIA or p16 were referred for colposcopy. A triage strategy was considered favorable if the NPV for CIN3+ was ≥98%, combined with an improvement of sensitivity and specificity in comparison to the comparator, being the ‘ASC-US+’ triage and the guideline strategy (HPV16/18+ or ASC-US+). Results: A total of 3510 HPV-positive women were included, 422 (12.0%) CIN2+ and 247 (7.0%) CIN3+ were identified. The positivity of p16 and ASC-US+ were 36.3% and 22.2%, respectively. p16 was more sensitive and less specific than ASC-US+ (P < 0.0001). However, when combined p16 with cytology or genotypes, two triage strategies were superior to the ‘ASC-US+’ strategy: p16 scored 3+; HPV16/33/58/31+ &p16+. Moreover, four strategies were favorable to the guideline strategy: ASC-US+ or p16+; LSIL+ or p16+; HPV16+ or p16+; HSIL+ or p16+ or HPV16+. These strategies achieved better balance between diseases detection and colposcopy referral. Conclusions: Our findings indicate the promising utility of p16 immunocytology via adjusting the staining score or serving as an ancillary tool to liquid-based cytology or combining with genotyping for the triage of HPV-positive self-samples, which promotes the precise screening of cervical cancer. © 2021 Elsevier Inc.

Background: Self-sampling for human papillomavirus (HPV) testing is a feasible option to improve the cervical screening coverage. However, an ideal triage method for HPV-positive self-samples does not yet exist. The aim of this study was to explore the utility of HPV genotyping and p16INK4a immunostaining (p16) in triaging HPV-positive self-samples, focusing on HPV-positive, cytology-negative (HPCN) women. Methods: A total of 73,699 women were screened in a cervical screening project in China via SeqHPV assay on self-samples. HPV-positive women were called-back and collected cervical sample for p16 immunostaining and liquid-based cytology, those who met any result of HPV16/18+ or visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA) + or p16+ were referred for colposcopy, and HPCN women with adequate data on p16 and pathology were analyzed. A triage strategy was considered acceptable if the negative predictive value (NPV) for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia 3 or worse (CIN3+) was 98% or more, combined with an improvement of sensitivity and specificity for CIN2+/CIN3+ in reference to the comparator, being HPV16/18 +. Results: A total of 2731 HPCN women aged 30–64 years were enrolled, 136 (5.0%) CIN2+ and 53 (1.9%) CIN3+ were detected. Five triage strategies met the criteria: p16+; HPV16/33+; ‘HPV16+ or HPV33/58/31/35+&p16+’; ‘HPV16/33+ or HPV58/31/35+&p16+’; HPV16/18/31/33/45/52/58 + & p16+. These strategies required less or similar colposcopy referrals, and less colposcopies to detected one case of CIN2+/CIN3+, achieving favorable false positive (negative) rates to the comparator. Among them, p16 staining detected 83.1% (79.2%) of underlying CIN2 + (CIN3+) in HPCN women. Moreover, three triage strategies were favorable in sensitivity and/or specificity to the ‘HPV16/33+’ strategy: p16+; ‘HPV16+ or HPV33/58/31/35 + &p16+’; HPV16/18/31/33/45/52/58 + &p16 +. Subsequently, insulin was loaded onto LDH-DCA-HA, resulting in the formation of INS@LDH-DCA-HA. The in vivo and in vitro mechanisms of insulin release, as well as the efficiency of insulin absorption, were analyzed before and after DCA-HA modification.Results: MTT assay showed that there was satisfactory biocompatibility between LDH-DCA-HA and Caco-2 cells at a concentration below 1000 μg/mL. Flow cytometry analysis revealed that Caco-2 cells absorbed INS@LDH-DCA-HA more readily than insulin. Measurement of transepithelial electrical resistance indicated that INS@LDH-DCA-HA induced the reversible opening of tight cell junctions, thereby facilitating its absorption. This was confirmed via laser confocal microscopy analysis, revealing that a large amount of zonula occludens-1 tight junction (TJ) protein was utilized for the paracellular pathway of nanoparticles. We also measured the blood glucose levels of type I diabetic mice and found that oral INS@LDH-DCA-HA exerted a steady hypoglycemic effect lasting 12 h, with a small range of postprandial blood glucose fluctuation. BACKGROUND: Many occupations require workers to stand for prolonged periods, which can cause discomfort, pain and even injures. Some supermarkets in life provide a foot pad for checkout staff to let them stand on it at work, thereby reducing standing fatigue caused by standing for a long time. The inclined platform is the same as the foot pad mentioned above. That is, the staff stepped on it and relieved standing fatigue to a certain extent. OBJECTIVE: The study aims to analyze how the standing angle affects fatigue among prolonged standing workers and tries to find an inclined platform with a specific angle to reduce standing fatigue. METHODS: This experiment studied fatigue of the inclined platforms with different angles on prolonged standing workers, eight participants were selected to participate in the test. The plantar pressures and sEMG (Surface Electromyography) were used to collect the physiological information change of prolonged standing participants in the lower limb and waist. The visual analogue scale was used as a subjective method to measure the psychological fatigue. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The study highlights the relationship between standing angle and lower limb fatigue. The inclination of the standing platform has different effects on the participants under different time conditions. When participants stand on inclined platforms at 0°, 5° and 10°, the iEMG (Integrated Electromyography) values of the gastrointestinal muscle were not significantly different until the third sampling point (40 minutes). After that self-regulation of lower limb muscles is better when standing on an inclined platform between 5° and 10°, it has a certain effect on alleviating lower limb fatigue. Action recognition is a key problem in computer vision that labels videos with a set of predefined actions. Capturing both, semantic content and motion, along the video frames is key to achieve high accuracy performance on this task. Most of the state-of-the-art methods rely on RGB frames for extracting the semantics and pre-computed optical flow fields as a motion cue. Then, both are combined using deep neural networks. Yet, it has been argued that such models are not able to leverage the motion information extracted from the optical flow, but instead the optical flow allows for better recognition of people and objects in the video. This urges the need to explore different cues or models that can extract motion in a more informative fashion. To tackle this issue, we propose to explore the predictive coding network, so called PredNet, a recurrent neural network that propagates predictive coding errors across layers and time steps. We analyze whether PredNet can better capture motions in videos by estimating over time the representations extracted from pre-trained networks for action recognition. In this way, the model only relies on the video frames, and does not need pre-processed optical flows as input. This paper critically reviews the fate of trace organic contaminants (TrOCs) in biosolids, with emphasis on identifying operation conditions that impact the accumulation of TrOCs in sludge during conventional wastewater and sludge treatment and assessing the technologies available for TrOC removal from biosolids. The fate of TrOCs during sludge thickening, stabilisation (e.g. aerobic digestion, anaerobic digestion, alkaline stabilisation, and composting), conditioning, and dewatering is elucidated. Operation pH, sludge retention time (SRT), and temperature have significant impact on the sorption and biodegradation of TrOCs in activated sludge that ends up in the sludge treatment line. Anaerobic digestion may exacerbate the estrogenicity of sludge due to bioconversion to more potent metabolites. Application of advanced oxidation or thermal pre-treatment may minimise TrOCs in biosolids by increasing the bioavailability of TrOCs, converting TrOCs into more biodegradable products, or inducing complete mineralisation of TrOCs. Treatment of sludge by bioaugmentation using various bacteria, yeast, or fungus has the potential to reduce TrOC levels in biosolids.

A sample of 111 Fermi blazars each with a well-established radio core luminosity, broad-line luminosity, bolometric luminosity and black hole mass has been compiled from the literatures.We present a significant correlation between radio core and broad-line emission luminosities that supports a close link between accretion processes and relativistic jets. Analysis reveals a relationship of $\rm{LogL_{BLR}\sim(0.81\pm0.06)LogL_{R}^{C}}$ which is consistant with theoretical predicted coefficient and supports that blazar jets are powered by energy extraction from a rapidly spinning Kerr black hole through the magnetic field provided by the accretion disk. Through studying the correlation between the intrinsic bolometric luminosity and the black hole mass, we find a relationship of $\rm{{Log}\frac{L_{in}}{L_{\odot}}=(0.95\pm0.26){Log}\frac{M}{M_{\odot}}+(3.53\pm2.24)}$ which supports mass-luminosity relation for Fermi blazars derived in this work is a powerlaw relation similar to that for main-sequence stars. We compiled a sample of 24 flat-spectrum radio quasars (FSRQs), 21 BL Lacs, 13 FRI and 12 FRII radio galaxies to study the jet power and broad-line luminosity relation, and the jet power and black hole mass relation. Furthermore, we obtain the histograms of key parameters. Our main results are as the follows:(i) We found that the FSRQs are roughly separated from BL Lacs by the Ledlow-Owen FRI/FRII dividing line in the $\rm{\log{P_{jet}}-\log{M}}$ plane. This result supports the unification model that BL Lacs unify with FRI radio galaxies and FSRQs unify with FRII radio galaxies.(ii)We found that the coefficient of the best-fit linear regression equation of $\rm{\log{L_{BLR}}-\log{P_{jet}}}$ relation is very close to 1 for our sample. Firstly, the government support system provided welfare support for single mothers through danwei institution and social assistance system. Danwei used to provide general welfare for single mothers and ensure their economic security. With the demise of danwei , many working single mothers started to xiagang (lose job) and became poor. Social assistance system was recently established in China to ensure the subsistence security of the poor and single mothers were also included. But since the subsistence allowance was too low, the benefit of its effect limited., In the context of changing social economic and structure in China, poverty of single mothers is becoming an important issue in social policy and social welfare. How do single single mothers react against poverty? What kinds of welfare support are provided to them by the government, the market and the community? Could single single mothers alleviate poverty successfully under the present welfare support system? In order to answer these questions, this study takes the low-income single mothers in Beijing as the research target and examines the structure, context and effect of their welfare support system which were composed by the government, the market and the community. The study puts forward a new welfare support system design for single mothers by studying the main characters and the main problems of the actual welfare support system., Secondly, the market support system provided welfare support through the free labor market. Single mothers in this study confronted the double discrimination due to gender and age in the labor market; and they usually only get low-income job in marginal employment. Most re-employed single mothers in this study were still living in poor conditions, they were in fact working poor., The study concludes that to cope with poverty, single mothers in this Beijing small sample had to ask for formal welfare support, mainly social assistance, medical assistance and family assistance. Single mothers in this study had a welfare support system primarily based on the family and taking the family as the latent welfare provider by stressing the mutual responsibility of family members. Although this type of welfare support system can ensure the subsistence security of single mothers, it cannot help them stay away from threat of poverty. Considering the situation of China, it is suggested that the welfare support system for single mother should be primarily based on employment and taking the government, family and NGOs as the complementary sources of welfare support. This will help single mothers strengthen their self-development and independence, so they can positively and effectively respond to poverty., The study takes a qualitative approach and the analysis is based on the materials stemmed from the in-depth interviews of 20 low-income single mothers in Beijing, Xuan Wu district which were taken on Nov 2006-Jan 2007 and Jan 2008-Mar 2008 respectively.
