Botanicals are widely consumed as dietary supplements, medicines, and consumer products. Their chemical complexity and variability present challenges in safety assessment, including potential neurotoxicity. The Botanical Safety Consortium (BSC)‘s Neurotoxicity Working Group is exploring new approach methodologies (NAMs) for the screening of botanical extracts for neurotoxic effects. Areas covered: This paper outlines the selection of NAMs, including in vitro assays using primary rat cortical neurons, zebrafish embryos, and Caenorhabditis elegans. These assays aim to assess neurotoxic endpoints such as neuronal activity and behavioral responses. Microelectrode array recordings of rat cortical neurons provide insights into the impact of botanical extracts on neuronal function, while the zebrafish embryos and C. elegans assays evaluate neurobehavioral responses. The paper also provides an account of the selection of botanical case studies based on expert judgment and existing neuroactivity/toxicity information. The proposed battery of assays will be tested with these case studies to evaluate their utility for neurotoxicity screening. Expert opinion: The complexity of botanicals necessitates the use of multiple NAMs for effective neurotoxicity screening. This paper discusses the evaluation of methodologies to develop a robust framework for evaluating botanical safety, including complex neuronal models and key neurodevelopmental process assays. It aims to establish a comprehensive screening framework.

Pangenome reference graphs are useful in genomics because they compactly represent the genetic diversity within a species, a capability that linear references lack. However, efficiently aligning sequences to these graphs with complex topology and cycles can be challenging. The seed-chain-extend based alignment algorithms use co-linear chaining as a standard technique to identify a good cluster of exact seed matches that can be combined to form an alignment. Recent works show how the co-linear chaining problem can be efficiently solved for acyclic pangenome graphs by exploiting their small width [Makinen et al., TALG'19] and how incorporating gap cost in the scoring function improves alignment accuracy [Chandra and Jain, RECOMB'23]. However, it remains open on how to effectively generalize these techniques for general pangenome graphs which contain cycles. Here we present the first practical formulation and an exact algorithm for co-linear chaining on cyclic pangenome graphs. We rigorously prove the correctness and computational complexity of the proposed algorithm. We evaluate the empirical performance of our algorithm by aligning simulated long reads from the human genome to a cyclic pangenome graph constructed from 95 publicly available haplotype-resolved human genome assemblies. While the existing heuristic-based algorithms are faster, the proposed algorithm provides a significant advantage in terms of accuracy.

The very purpose of this study is to conduct a systematic analysis of the doctoral research works produced by Indian Universities in the discipline of Sociology during the period from 2004 to 2017. The study is based on the secondary data, compiled from the authentic Indian data source on doctoral research known as “University News”. It aims to find out the developmental trends of Sociology research, the productivity of states, universities, and supervisors as well as languages and gender-wise productivity of Sociology doctoral research. It also aims to find out the most frequently occurred key words and the research areas associated with these keywords through a qualitative analysis of the titles of the research works done in the discipline. The study revealed that in all, 1333 doctoral degrees were awarded from 104 universities, guided by 676 supervisors. Delhi, the National Capital Territory of India proved its research competence by emerging as a leading destination of Sociology research in India. Similarly, at the institution level, Jawaharlal Nehru University (Delhi) found to be the prominent institution that awarded the maximum number of doctoral degrees (200) among the universities. A K Pandey (University of Lucknow) and Anand Kumar (JNU) are the most prolific supervisors who have guided to a maximum of 19 scholars each during the period of study. Research works on ‘Women’ focused on aspects like, ‘social presence’, ‘profession’, ‘empowerment’, ‘health’, ‘crime’, ‘education’, and other related issues on different communities are found to be the Indian scholars' most favoured research areas in sociology.

Digital preservation is an evolving area of research for libraries, archives, and museums across the globe over the last two decades. Due to the growing recognition of the need to address various issues dealt with digital preservation, this field of study has generated quite a range of scholarly communications on several aspects. The present paper aims to examine critically the extant literature on "digital preservation and libraries" for the period from 2001 to 2019 and to assess the evolving trajectory and trends. Out of a total of 1292 extracted records from the Scopus database, a total of 710 articles are considered for the study purpose after the exclusion of non-relevant articles. Employing bibliometric indicators the study primarily assessed the publication pattern, document types, the most prolific authors, most contributing institutions, and focus areas of study as well as the geographical distribution of publications. Along with this, the VOSviewer software is used for co-author network analysis. The findings of the current analysis reveal that the highest number of papers published in the source journal "Lecture Notes in Computer Science" while the U.S.A. is in the top spot among the countries and author Nelson, M. L. from the U.S.A. has published the maximum number of research papers. It also provides information on various forms of publication on digital preservation and the impactful papers. Though there are studies on the assessment of digital libraries and digital repositories, a bibliometric assessment of literature on digital preservation is a novel attempt. As a metric study, it reflects the relative position of a country, an institution, and a researcher.

This paper evaluates the performance of the 14 most productive Central Universities in Social Sciences research. The study is based on the Scopus Indexing database for the period from 2009 to 2018 where the total records retrieved were 7278. Results revealed that journal articles were the most preferred form of publication with 4293 (59%) research papers and the mean annual growth rate of publications was 1.01 while the Mean RGR (Relative Growth Rate) and DT (Doubling Time) were 0.314 and 2.751 respectively. The total number of citations received was 38456 with 5.77 mean citations per paper. Out of the total retrieved records, 4504 papers were cited and the share of open access citation was 71.9 percentage. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi University (DU), and Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) emerged as the top three universities in Social Sciences research based on Total Publications (TP), Total Citations (TC), Highly Cited Papers (HCP), h-index and g-index. The p index of JNU, AMU, and DU are 35.68, 34.53, and 33.64 respectively. The mean of various bibliometric indicators namely, DC, CI, CC, and MCC were found to be 0.605, 2.306, 0.393, and 0.394 respectively. Economic and Political Weekly was the most prolific journal and R. H. Khan of AMU was the most productive author during the study period with 42 papers and with an h-index of 18.

The present paper aims to enumerate the research impact of scholarly communications using Scientometrics indicators through a case study. Though the impact, as well as visibility study of scholarly communications, is always a debatable topic due to the non-acceptance by different stakeholders, efforts have been made to analyze selective Scientometrics dimensions of the scholarly literature such as trends of authorship, the productivity of authors, the ranking of institutions, geographic distribution, Productivity Index (PI), Domestic Collaborative Index (DCI), International Collaborative Index (ICI), Subject Term Activity Index (STAI) and applicability of Lotka’s Lw, Zipf’s Law. To illustrate these Scientometrics indicators, pertinent bibliographic information in the field of Information Systems (IS) is collected from the EBSCO database from one of the top-ranked IS journals namely ISM (Information Systems Management). The journal was chosen through clear evaluation criteria, and then fifteen years of relevant bibliographic data points were collected in a standardized format to meet the nine objectives of the study.

A simple, Accurate, precise method was developed for the simultaneous estimation of the Haloperidol and Benzhexol in Tablet dosage form. The chromatogram was run through Kromasil (250mm 4.6mm, 5µ). Mobile phase containing Buffer and Acetonitrile and methanol in the ratio of 48:52 was pumped through column at a flow rate of 1.0 ml/min. The temperature was maintained at 30°C. The optimized wavelength for Haloperidol and Benzhexol was 220nm. The retention time of Haloperidol and Benzhexol were found to be 2.415 min and 2.820min. %RSD of the Haloperidol and Benzhexol were and found to be 0.6 and 0.2 respectively. %Recover was Obtained as 98.92% and 99.60% for Haloperidol and Benzhexol. LOD, LOQ values were obtained from regression equations of Haloperidol and Benzhexol were 0.42ppm, 1.27ppm and 0.04ppm, 0.14ppm respectively. Regression equation of Haloperidol is y = 24009x + 38704, and of Benzhexol is y = 40558x + 2880. Retention times are decreased and that run time was decreased so the method developed was simple and economical that can be adopted in regular Quality control test in Industries

This paper analyses various bibliometric dimensions of the journal literature such as authors’ productivity, geographical distribution, citation pattern, institution-wise distribution of articles, discipline-wise distributions of articles, productive institutions, Productivity Index (PI), Activity Index (AI), Domestic Collaborative Index (DCI) and International Collaborative Index (ICI) etc. It also explores the applicability of Lotka’s Inverse Square Law and Zipf’s Law to examine the observed rank – frequency pattern of Keywords and Subject Terms of Information Systems (IS) literature. To illustrate these bibliometric indicators pertinent information on the field of Information Systems (IS) collected from EBSCO database for the International Journal of Cooperative Information Systems (IJCIS). Results indicated that a high level of collaboration exists among the authors, USA occupies the dominant position in terms of high productive authors, institutions and tops the list with highest number of domestic collaboration. Authors’ productivity confirms to Lotka’s law and the Frequency distribution of both Subject Terms and Keywords in IJCIS journal literature follow Zipf’s distribution.

Measuring the research quality of academics to assess the performance of departments, research institutes, universities or even the researchers by themselves is a trend now across the globe. Quality is a journey which can only be judged through the scholarly communications produced, especially papers published in journals. However, assessing the quality of individual papers by peer review is not trouble-free and sometimes leads to disagreement too. Partly for these reasons, the quality of the journal that the paper is published in is widely taken into consideration for the quality of the paper itself. The present study explores the publication pattern of scholarly articles of the Journal “Information Processing and Management,” a leading international journal published by Elsevier and indexed under Science Direct Database. It examines and presents an analysis of 550 articles (under Top25 hottest article of Science Direct) cited within the period from 2008 to 2013. The scholarly articles are analyzed from several bibliometric parameters such as the chronological distribution, authorship pattern and degree of collaboration, most prolific authors, country and institution-wise distribution, subject-wise distribution of articles, most downloaded and cited, the length of articles. Lotka’s law is also applied to examine authors’ productivity pattern and productivity index. Results indicated that a high level of collaboration exists among the authors, Information Science taking shape of a developing discipline within LIS and USA occupies the dominant position in terms of productive authors, institutions and country. A positive and significant relationship lies between the T25HA and the number of citations received.

Uterine Prolapse (UP) is a major cause of mortality and morbidity among women in low-income countries like Nepal. More than 1 million women in Nepal suffer from this condition and most of them belong to the reproductive age. The cause and consequence for UP in Nepalese women is mainly gender discrimination. Early marriage, multiple births, lack of skilled birth attendants during delivery, continuous work throughout their pregnancies and soon after giving birth are the risk factors and causes of UP. It affects many aspects of a woman’s quality of life, which ranges from physical discomfort, psychological, social and sexual lifestyle restrictions. Lack of knowledge of casual and preventative measures and perception of UP as normal phenomenon is the important barriers to access to treatment. Strong, effective and comprehensive strategies should address this underlying discrimination including socio-cultural discrimination, which could empower women to control their exposure to UP.

The Electronic Journal of Knowledge Management (EJKM) is an online open access peer-reviewed journal that publishes articles with regard to the development of both theory and practice in the field of Knowledge Management. The present paper examines the articles published in EJKM during the period from 2003-13 for identifying the publication output, authorship pattern, degree of collaboration, most prolific contributors, geographical distribution of papers, referencing pattern, self citation pattern and several other characteristics. The results of this study reveal that that the year 2009 is the most productive year, research papers are given more importance than other categories of publications. Majority of papers are multi- authored. The degree of collaboration is found to be 0.70. The geographical distribution reveals that the contribution by United Kingdom is highest.

The basic purpose of this study is to provide a comprehensive view of Indian contribution towards open access journal movement, particularly the journals indexed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) - a service from Lund University. It seeks to explore the relative position of India among other countries and provides an analysis of the indexed journals from several parameters. A list of 318 Indian OA journals indexed in DOAJ has been served as the data source. The relevant metadata for each indexed journal such as title of the journal, journal URL, ISSN, country of publication, language, year since added in DOAJ, LCC subject category, APC charges of journals, publisher and publishers’ keywords and Journal license and other licensing attributes were analyzed to get the outcome. The study suggests India’s standing in the domain of open access scholarly publishing and establishes that India is one among the most productive countries those support universal access to knowledge. This study acts as a reference tool for the scholarly community in the disciplines of Medical Sciences, Basic Sciences, Technology, Social Sciences to have access to the published research works crossing the geographical barrier.

The very purpose of the paper is to focus on the output of doctoral research in different fields of Social Sciences in India. Attempts have been made to project various indicators of Social Science research and more comprehensively Library and Information Science research by analyzing doctoral research works carried out during the period 2010-2012. While presenting quantification of research output in the form doctoral theses for the period of study, the paper highlights distribution of research output by discipline, language, ranking pattern of Universities, States, and supervisors by their output. The paper also indicates the core areas of research activity in the field of Library and Information Science during the study period.

The very purpose of this paper is to provide a meticulous review of literature on various aspects of palm leaf manuscripts. Through the process of review, it aims to highlight the antiquity of palm leaf manuscripts, the process of seasoning and writing over the leaves, the physical, chemical and biological factors of deterioration, the classification and cataloguing process of manuscripts, different traditional / modern methods of preservation and conservation as well as the viability and prospects of digital preservation of manuscripts and the attempts taken by various manuscript libraries for digitization.

It examines and presents an analysis of 180 research communications published during the period 1999-2009 in the area of MIS. The present study significantly examines the various bibliometric dimensions of the journal literature such as growth of literature, authorship pattern, degree of collaboration, authors’ productivity, geographical distribution, citation pattern, length of articles, institution-wise distribution of articles, journal matrix, discipline-wise distributions of articles, productive institutions and prolific authors etc.

The present paper is prepared with the purpose to assess the publication trends of scholarly articles in the field of Environmental Sciences that are published in 75 Journals indexed under Science Direct Database during the period 2004 to 2010. It examines and presents an analysis of 645 research papers with a focus on Indian scenario. The study takes note scientifically from various angles such as: growth of literature, authorship pattern, degree of collaboration, geographical distribution of publications, distribution by journal, citation pattern, and ranking pattern etc. The study reveals that ‘USA’ as the most productive country among 67 participative nations and recognized ‘Trends in Ecology & Evolution’ (TEE) as highly productive journal amongst 75 journals undertaken for this study.
