15. The homogeneity ranges of the L1(2)-type intermetallic compounds Ni3Ga and Ni3Ge

Abstract

The homogeneity ranges of the L12-ordered compounds Ni3Ga and Ni3Ge and the boundaries of the neighboring phases have been examined by electron probe microanalysis using heterophase alloys in the temperature ranges 1073 to 1373 K (Ni-Ga) and 1073 to 1346 K (Ni-Ge). The composition ranges of the L12-ordered phases have been found to be narrower than those reported in the literature, on the Ga-rich side for Ni3Ga and on the Ge-deficient side for Ni3Ge.

16. Anisotropy of the Anelastic Relaxation Associated with Interstitial Carbon in Nickel

Abstract

The behaviour of interstitial C atoms in Ni has been studied by low-frequency internal friction measurements using single crystal specimens. The magnitude of the relaxation peak, which appears at 520 K for f = 1 Hz, is the largest when the axis of shear stress is [111], while the peak is virtually absent when the stress axis is [100]. This behaviour can be accounted for by considering pairs of C atoms occupying the 2nd neighbour octahedral sites. The kinetics of the relaxation is discussed by assuming the relaxation is due to the reorientation of the 2nd neighbour pairs through the 3rd neighbour configuration.

17. The Snoek Relaxation in Dilute Ternary bcc Alloys. A Review

Abstract

The Snoek relaxation due to interstitial solutes in bcc metals is often affected markedly by the presence of a small amount of substitutional solute atoms. This effect is believed to originate from the interaction between the substitutional and interstitial solute atoms, or the s-i interaction. This review summarizes first the experimental observations on the Snoek relaxation in various dilute alloys such as Fe-M-C/N and V/Nb/Ta-M-O/N, and describes next the theoretical studies on the thermodynamics and kinetics of the relaxation. It is suggested from recent studies that careful examinations of the variation of the spectrum with solute concentrations are useful for quantitative characterization of the s-i interaction.
