- Abstract
Mg has important applications in the automotive and electronic industries but in comparison with other metals, such as Al, recycling of Mg is less well established. The metal forms strong chemical bonds with accompanying elements in nature and the energy required to produce 1 kg of Mg metal is 35 kWh, compared with 1-2 kWh for re-melting 1 kg of metallic Mg. A review is presented of the available waste materials for Mg recycling and the common recycling methods. The results are presented of an investigation into the use of distillation for the recovery of Mg., Mg has important applications in the automotive and electronic industries but in comparison with other metals, such as Al, recycling of Mg is less well established.
