A reconsideration of the role of women during the crisis that affected Europe at the beginning of the 1930s has become an imperative for history. With such a premise in mind, this article focuses specifically on the female population of the Austrian industrial locality of Marienthal. Thus, the data of the famous sociographic study on "the unemployed" published by Marie Jahoda, Paul Felix Lazarsfeld and Hans Zeisel are reinterpreted, deconstructing the patriarchal analytical codes that structure it. And, as a result, the effects of unemployment on them are analysed along three main points: the domestic economic management, the notion of time and psychological conditions, and, finally, the gender-based abuse in marriages., Supone un imperativo para la historia realizar una revisión del papel de las mujeres durante la crisis que golpeó Europa a principios de la década de 1930. Bajo tal premisa, este artículo se centra concretamente en la población femenina de la localidad industrial austriaca de Marienthal. De ahí que se reinterpreten los datos del célebre estudio sociográfico sobre los “parados” publicado por Marie Jahoda, Paul Felix Lazarsfeld y Hans Zeisel, desmontando los códigos analíticos patriarcales que lo estructuran. Por consiguiente, se analizan los efectos del desempleo sobre ellas en torno a tres ejes: la gestión económica doméstica, la noción de tiempo y las afecciones psicológicas y, por último, el maltrato de género en los matrimonios.

La sociabilidad, es una cualidad inherente al ser humano, reconocible como la construcción de un lenguaje propio que se da como resultado de un aprendizaje inagotable de intercambios puntuales y secuencias sostenidas en el tiempo que se expresan y se reconocen socialmente en forma de interacciones, vínculos o relaciones características entre diferentes formas y agrupaciones sociales. La sociología, sería la ciencia social encargada de investigar los procesos y reconocer la naturaleza de tales estructuras, estableciendo conexiones con otros fenómenos como sería el de analizar el sentido organizativo de la vida social en el entorno físico en el que se desarrollan. Esta afirmación, debería plantearse como esencial en la medida en que se pretenda reivindicar para la noción sociológica un espacio propio dentro de las estrategias implicadas en el análisis y la ideación de las intervenciones sobre la forma urbana, a pesar de que su integración se vuelva manifiestamente compleja y contradictoria. Es compleja, porque implica poner en relación y relacionar dos de los aspectos que describen con mayor precisión el significado del espacio urbano, tratando de reconocer en esta superposición de tramas su capacidad para hacer emerger nuevas interpretaciones del conjunto de elementos y atributos característicos que le puedan dar sentido. Es contradictoria, porque pese a proponerse como parte de un proceso teórico de ideación, ordenación funcional y definición geométrica, el resultado final no puede garantizar una adhesión social plena, ni homogénea, ni inminente, ni exenta de problemas. En cambio, para lograr una aproximación más precisa al estudio de una realidad social de un entorno concreto, este texto, propone reconocer en este principio de indeterminación y en el proceso de adición un marco interpretativo incorporable durante la planificación y el desarrollo de proyectos., Sociability is an inherent quality of the human being. It is recognizable as a particular lenguage as a reult of an inexhaustible learning of social exchanges, sustained over the time, expressed through social interactions and recognizable in the different orientations toward the organization of groups. Sociology would be the social science dedicated to the research of these processes, recognizing the nature of such structures and establishing connections with other phenomena like the organizational meaning of social life in the phisical environment in which they develop. This statement, should be considered essential insofar as it is intended to claim for the socilogical notion its own space within strategies involved in the analisys of urban form, despite the fact that its integration becomes manifestly complex and contradictory. It is complex, because it implies tu put in relation and relate two of the most characteristic aspects in the description of the meaning of urban space, triying to recognize in this overlapp process the capacity to discover new ways to understand the sense of the set of elements and properties which is made of. It is contradictory, because despite being propossed as a part of an ideation and geometric definition process, the final result cannot fully guarantee a satisfactory social cohesion, nor homogeneous, nor inminent, nor exempt from other problems. Sociography is the least thought-out chapter in the history of Argentine sociology. It was an original work of knowledge of the social, which turned actors and problems into the role, such as unskilled workers, industrial workers, employees, representatives of the rural world, upper class and residents of shanty towns (“villas miserias”). This task was developed in the midst of the domain of chair sociology, the university under classical Peronism (1946-1955) and the creation of the Sociology career (UBA, 1957). It was made up of social reformers, civil servants and intellectuals from the Argentine interior, was a legitimate precursor of scientific sociology and contains a variety of positions in field, state and university work, with its major works, references, questions, routines, methodologies and cognitive achievements. This article tries to integrate these perspectives under three objectives: a) to study the pioneers and the initial matrix of themes of Argentine sociography; b) track its geographical expansion, beyond the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires, in particular, its drivers in the Argentine Northwest (NOA); c) reconstruct a range of objects of greater formalization, academic and statistical., A sociografia é o capítulo menos pensado da história da socio­logia argentina. Esta tarefa foi desenvolvida em meio do domínio da sociologia de cátedra, da universidade sob o peronismo clás­sico (1946-1955) e da criação do curso de Sociologia (UBA, 1957). Es compleja porque implica poner en relación y relacionar dos de los aspectos que describen con mayor precisión el significado del espacio urbano y es, a su vez, contradictoria porque pese a proponer una planificación funcional teóricamente correcta y una definición geométrica de un espacio determinado, no garantiza que dé como resultado una adhesión social ni homogénea ni inminente ni exenta de problemas. Por tanto, para lograr una aproximación más precisa a la realidad social de un entorno determinado, resulta necesario incorporar y utilizar procedimientos adecuados que procuren significados integrales sobre la vida social en el espacio urbano.

This article analyses the training and attitudes towards employment of the social group known as NEET -Not in Employment, Education or Training- today. This moment socio-political is marked by a high rate of youth unemployment that continues despite the economic recovery announced in recent months. Its purpose is to know the sociocultural characteristics in which they have grown up and their appreciation of the academic training received for their personal, social and work development. To achieve this objective, a mixed methodology based on a quantitative and qualitative approach has been used. The instruments used to collect the data were the interview and the questionnaire. The results obtained show the heterogeneity of this group in which there is a greater presence of young people actively seeking employment, with post-compulsory and higher education, as opposed to the traditional image that identifies them as idle and disinterested young people, without professional training or qualifications., En este artículo se analiza la formación y actitudes hacia el empleo del colectivo social denominado NINI –jóvenes que ni estudian ni trabajan– en el marco sociopolítico actual, marcado por una alta tasa de desempleo juvenil que se mantiene a pesar de la recuperación económica pregonada en los últimos meses. Su finalidad es conocer las características socioculturales en las que han crecido y su valoración acerca de la formación académica recibida para su desarrollo personal, social y laboral. Para alcanzar este objetivo se ha recurrido a una metodología mixta fundamentada en un enfoque cuantitativo y cualitativo. Los instrumentos utilizados para la recogida de los datos han sido la entrevista y el cuestionario. Los resultados obtenidos muestran la heterogeneidad de este colectivo, en el que existe una mayor presencia de jóvenes que buscan empleo activamente, con estudios postobligatorios y superiores, frente a la imagen tradicional que los identifica como jóvenes ociosos, desinteresados y sin formación ni cualificación profesional.

Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are a method to assess impact that has become increasingly popular over the last fifteen years, particularly as a result of the work done by Esther Duflo and her Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), an or-ganization devoted to the promotion of randomization. This article aims to explore and understand this success by using an in-depth sociographical study of the J-PAL and a network analysis of economists who use RCT. J-PAL appears to be a concentration of educational and academic capital that give great legitimacy to the RCT method. The network is controlled by certain leaders who are able to diffuse the J-PAL approach to RCTs. Furthermore, this article argues that it is necessary to go beyond the intrinsic quality of this method to explain how it became so popular.

In seinem einleitenden Beitrag stellt der Verfasser im einzelnen dar, welche Entwicklungslinien und Defizite der gegenwärtigen empirischen Sozialforschung zu einer stärkeren Nutzung prozeß-produzierter Daten führen. Am Beispiel der Entwicklung der amerikanischen Sozialforschung wird gezeigt, wie die vorherrschende Umfrageforschung die Datenbasen, die Problemformulierungen und die Analyseformen bestimmte. Demgegenüber war die Soziologie der "Klassiker" durch drei andere Datenbasen dominiert: Historiographie, amtliche Zählungen und Ethnographie. Ein weiterer Teil des Beitrages befaßt sich mit dem gegenwärtigen Wiederaufleben des Interesses an Daten, die nicht von Sozialforschern produziert wurden. Verschiedene Typen prozeß-produzierter Daten werden beschrieben und in ihrer Problematik diskutiert. Unter anderem geht der Verf. auch auf ökologische Analysen, Mehrebenenanalysen und auf die Indikatorforschung ein; insbesondere das Interesse für Soziale Indikatoren hat die Beschäftigung mit prozeß-produzierten Daten nachhaltig beeinflußt. Im ganzen weist der Beitrag darauf hin, daß seit dem Zweiten Weltkrieg immer stärker die Bedeutung von Kollektiveigenschaften betont wird; entsprechend wächst auch der Aussagewert prozeß-produzierter Datenbasen. Daneben treffen sich wichtige Interessen der modernen Sozialforschung (Suche nach historischen Analogien etc.) mit der Problemperspektive der quantifizierenden Geschichtsschreibung. (JL)

Een verkennend onderzoek naar nieuwkomers in het landelijk gebied op basis van literatuur, data en gesprekken met sleutelpersonen in Reeuwijk en op Schouwen-Duiveland. De definitie van nieuwkomers is niet eenduidig. Nieuwkomers zijn nauw betrokken bij het verenigingsleven, maar zijn in het lokale beleid minder actief. De aanwezige natuur en landschap in gemeenten vormt een verbindend element tussen nieuwkomers en autochtonen. Gemeenten kunnen daar meer op inspelen. This report reviews an exploratory study of newcomers in rural areas on the basis of a literature study, analyses of data and interviews with key figures in Reeuwijk and Schouwen-Duiveland. The definition of 'newcomers' was found to be fairly different. Newcomers are involved in local societies and clubs, but are less involved in local policy. The municipalities' nature and landscape create ties between newcomers and the indigenous population. Municipalities could make more use of this potential.

Lokaal wordt het gebied de Hayre genoemd, wat bergen of stenen betekent in het Fulfulde, de taal van de Fulbe (zie kaart 1.2). Dit gebied behoort tot de Sahel, een enorme strook land die zich uitstrekt van de Atlantische Oceaan naar het oosten van het Afrikaanse continent. Deze regio wordt gekenmerkt door een semi-aride klimaat. De neerslag is tussen de 300 en 600 mm per jaar, en is geconcentreerd in één seizoen. Het overgrote deel van de neerslag valt in de drie zomermaanden. De rest van het jaar wordt het klimaat gekenmerkt door het ontbreken van regenval, hoge temperaturen en een lage luchtvochtigheid. Daarbij zijn de klimatologische omstandigheden aan grote variaties onderhevig. Hierdoor zijn periodieke droogtes, mislukte oogsten, massale sterfte van vee en hongersnood regelmatig terugkerende verschijnselen. De vijfentwintig jaar sinds 1968 worden daarbij gekenmerkt door een lagere dan normale regenval, waardoor de bevolking van de Sahel keer op keer door rampen werd getroffen.De Fulbe hebben een lange geschiedenis in het gebied. De periode van hun eerste binnenkomst is onbekend, maar in historische bronnen worden zij al genoemd als aanwezig in de Gurma, het gebied in de bocht van de Niger, in de 16 eeeuw. In deze tijd vestigden zij zich tussen reeds aanwezige meer sedentaire bevolkingsgroepen, die leefden van akkerbouw, jacht en verzamelen. In de 18 eeeuw waren er volgens orale tradities enige tendensen naar politieke centralisatie in de Fulbe samenleving in de Hayre in de vorm van een erfelijk politiek leiderschap over de regio. In dit proefschrift heb ik uiteen gezet hoe de bevolking van de Nicaraguaanse Atlantische kust, met name de bewoners van de stad Bluefields en de zone die haar omringt, zich gedurende de afgelopen tien jaar genoodzaakt hebben gezien om steeds weer opnieuw hun werk en leven van de grond af aan op te bouwen. Met andere woorden, om steeds maar weer opnieuw te beginnen. Ik heb daarbij speciale aandacht besteed aan de manieren waarop hun pogingen om dit te bewerkstelligen beinvloed zijn door en tegelijkertijd invloed uitoefenen op specifieke culturele waarden, gender-verhoudingen en vormen van politieke organisatie en strijd. Sinds 1979 hebben de Atlantische kustbewoners een aantal extreem moeilijke problemen van ecologische, politiek-militaire en ekonomische aard moeten overkomen. Vandaag de dag, ondanks de mooie beloften van de in 1990 aangetreden UNO-regering en ondanks de beloofde financiële steun van de regering Bush, is de situatie er niet veel rooskleuriger op geworden. Integendeel, volgens de laatste berichten nemen problemen zoals werkeloosheid, armoede en delinquentie alleen maar toe.In deze studie hebben we gezien hoe vrouwen, mannen en kinderen verschillende keren hun land, woning, onderneming, vee en andere schaarse bezittingen hebben moeten achterlaten vanwege de contra-oorlog. Een triest dieptepunt van ellende en verdriet werd vervolgens veroorzaakt door de orkaan "Joan" die in oktober 1988 over Nicaragua raasde. "Joan" liet weinig heel van de stad Bluefields en haar achterland. The island of St. Eustatius is one of the least known and forgotten places within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Yet the island does have an illustrious history and it played an important part in trade within the Caribbean area, particularly in the eighteenth century. St. Eustatius was an important intermediary in the smuggling trade - especially of weapons - between Europe and the English colonies of North ,America who were fighting for their independence. From the nineteenth century onwards, however, the social economy of the island has, for a variety of reasons, continuously gone downhill. The construction of the oil refineries on Curaçao and Aruba, which also created jobs for many inhabitants of St. Eustatius, was not able to bring this economic decline to a halt.At the present time the island has to contend with numerous social and economic problems. There are few sources of income: agriculture and fishing stagnate, there is no industry of any importance and the island's Public Works Service functions as a disguised form of relief employment. it must be feared that the execution of infrastructural works, in particular the restorations of buildings of historic interest, can only offer incidental relief for the unemployment problem. In any event it is no real financial-economic reorganisation, since the necessary funds are largely made available by the Netherlands on an ad hoc basis. It is possible that small scale tourism can offer more perspective in the future.There is little social cohesion within the Statian society. This does not mean that the different social levels live in conflict or enmity with each other, but rather that there are certain social forces present within the society which stand in the way of a co-operative spirit or feelings of solidarity. This research, originally under the auspices of Professor van Vuuren, was accepted by Professor Edelman after the war because of a vacuum in the Social Economic Department of the Agricultural University. Because of the change of promotors the description of the physical environment was extended. The development of Huissen was closely dependent on the history of the River Rhine, on whose bank it was originally founded near the bifurcation of the Rhine and Yssel. After the diversion of the bifurcation and its silting up Huissen lost its importance as a trading centre. The sandy soil, after which the hamlet of Het Zand was named, consisted of deposits of dike breaks and of breaks in the natural levees before the dikes were built. On these sands tobacco cultivation was introduced in the eighteenth century. After its disappearance this crop was in turn followed in the 19th century by the introduction of market-gardening and fruit- growing both for the nearby town of Arnhem and especially for the rapidly developing industrial area of the Ruhr.The social and economic conditions of farmers and farmworkers throughout its history and at present were fully discussed.Prospects for the development of Huissen as a horticultural centre after the severe damage of the Second World War were considered.

Het Landbouw-Economisch Instituut en het Rijkslandbouwconsulentschap te Dordrecht kregen tot taak een economisch-sociografisch onderzoek in te stellen naar de landbouw in de Vijfheerenlanden.
