Abstract

The article focuses on the controversies surrounding the use of the book "Heather Has Two Mommies" in schools and libraries. The author of "Heather Has Two Mommies" discusses the reaction from the glbt community to the book, which she self-published. The author stresses the importance of the availability of media with which children can identify. The use of "Heather Has Two Mommies" in an effort to promote anti-gay legislation in Portland Oregon is discussed. The conflict surrounding the presence of "Heather Has Two Mommies" in libraries and as a part of the Rainbow Curriculum in New York City.
