By their very nature, Spin Waves (SWs) excited at the same frequency but different amplitudes, propagate through waveguides and interfere with each other at the expense of ultra-low energy consumption. In addition, all (part) of the SW energy can be moved from one waveguide to another by means of coupling effects. In this paper we make use of these SW features and introduce a novel non Boolean algebra based paradigm, which enables domain conversion free ultra-low energy consumption SW based computing. Subsequently, we leverage this computing paradigm by designing a non-binary spin wave adder, which we validate by means of micro-magnetic simulation. To get more inside on the proposed adder potential we assume a 2-bit adder implementation as discussion vehicle, evaluate its area, delay, and energy consumption, and compare it with conventional SW and 7 nm CMOS counterparts. The results indicate that our proposal diminishes the energy consumption by a factor of $3.14 \times $ and $6 \times $ , when compared with the conventional SW and 7 nm CMOS functionally equivalent designs, respectively. The key enabling factor for Spin Wave (SW) technology utilization for building ultra low power circuits is the ability to energy efficiently cascade SW basic computation blocks. SW Majority gates, which constitute a universal gate set for this paradigm, operating on phase encoded data are not input output coherent in terms of SW amplitude. Thus, their cascading requires information representation conversion from SW to voltage and back, which is by no means energy effective. In this paper, a novel conversion free SW gate cascading scheme is proposed that achieves SW amplitude normalization by means of a directional coupler. After introducing the normalization concept, we utilize it in the implementation of three simple circuits and, to demonstrate its bigger scale potential, of a 2-bit inputs SW multiplier. The proposed structures are validated by means of the Object Oriented Micromagnetic Framework (OOMMF) and GPU-accelerated Micromagnetics (MuMax3). Furthermore, we assess the normalization induced energy overhead and demonstrate that the proposed approach consumes $1.25 \times $ to $1.5 \times $ less energy when compared with the transducers based conventional counterpart. Finally, we introduce a normalization based SW 2-bit inputs multiplier design and compare it with functionally equivalent SW transducer based and 16nm CMOS designs. Our evaluation indicates that the proposed approach provided $1.34 \times $ and $6.25 \times $ energy reductions when compared with the conventional approach and 16nm CMOS counterpart, respectively, which demonstrates that our proposal is energy effective and opens the road towards the full utilization of the SW paradigm potential and the development of SW only circuits. Inadequate energy supply is one of the major problems confronting Malawi and limiting its social, economic and industrial development. This paper reviews the current status of energy supply and demand in Malawi; examines the major sources of energy, current exploitation status and their potential contribution to the electricity supply of the country; discusses key issues facing the energy sector; and identifies broad strategies to be implemented to tackle the energy supply challenges. Using secondary data for its critical analysis, the paper also presents modelling of long-term energy demand forecast in the economic sectors of Malawi using the Model for Analysis of Energy Demand (MAED) for a study period from 2008-2030. Three scenarios namely reference (REF), moderate growth (MGS) and accelerated growth (AGS) were formulated to simulate possible future long-term energy demand based on socio-economic and technological development with the base year of 2008. Results from all scenarios suggest an increased energy demand in consuming sectors with biomass being a dominant energy form in household and industry sectors in the study period. Forecast results reveal that energy demand will increase at an annual growth rate of 1.2% and reach 5160 ktoe in 2030 under REF scenario. The growth rates for MGS and AGS are projected at 1.5% each reaching 4639 ktoe and 5974 ktoe in 2030, respectively. The final electricity demand of about 105 ktoe in the base year will grow annually at average rates of 13.8%, 15.3% and 12.6% for REF, AGS and MGS, respectively. Over the study period 2008-2030 the annual electricity per capita will increase from about 111 kWh to 1062, 1418 and 844 kWh for the REF, AGS and MGS, respectively. The final energy intensity will decrease continuously from about 13.71 kWh/US$ in the base year to 3.88 kWh/US$, 2.98 kWh/US$ and 5.27 kWh/US$ for the REF, AGS and MGS, respectively in the year 2030. In conclusion, the paper outlines strategies that could be utilized to ensure adequate supply of modern energy which is a key ingredient for achieving sustainable social and economic growth. Energy becomes an inevitable challenge when using a large die-stacking dynamic random access memory (DRAM) cache. Although emerging spin-transfer-torque-RAM (STT-RAM) technology can efficiently reduce the static energy of large cache, it cannot completely replace DRAM cache due to the high write energy of STT-RAM. Recently, researchers have observed that there are many redundant bits written in the row buffer and futile bits written back to STT-RAM cells, which do not change the cells’ value but still cost high write energy. In this paper, we first design a large hybrid cache architecture with the DRAM region and the STT-RAM region to reduce the high static energy of DRAM cache. The selective write back to row buffer and selective write back to cell array optimizations are proposed to reduce high write energy of the STT-RAM region by removing the unnecessary bit-writes. Furthermore, we propose reuse distance-oriented data movement to reduce write operations in the STT-RAM region. Finally, we propose a novel tag design for the hybrid cache by moving all tag arrays to the STT-RAM region. The SPEC CPU2006 benchmarks show an average 28.3% energy reduction and 6.7% performance improvement for the write optimizations and 7.3% energy savings and 27.5% instructions per cycle speedups for the proposed tag design. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to reduce energy consumption in bakeries. Due to fulfill this demand, quite a few parameters such as energy and exergy efficiency, energy waste and fuel consumption by different traditional flatbreads bakeries (Sangak, Barbari, Taftun and Lavash should be monitored and their roles should not be neglected. Design/methodology/approach: In the present study, experimental measurements and mathematical modeling are used to scrutinize and investigate the effects of the aforementioned parameters on energy consumption by bakeries. Findings: The results show that by doing reported methods in this paper, the wasted energy of the walls can be decreased by about 65 per cent; and also, by controlling the combustion reaction to perform with 5 per cent excess air, the wasted energy of excess air declines by about 90 per cent. And finally, the energy and exergy efficiency of bakeries is increased, and as a result, the annual energy consumption of Sangak, Barbari, Taftun and Lavash bakeries diminish about 71, 59, 57 and 40 per cent, respectively. Originality/value: As evidenced by the literature review, it can be observed that neither numerical studies nor experimental investigations have been conducted about energy and exergy analyses of Iranian machinery traditional flatbread bakeries. It is clear that due to a high preference of Iranians to use the traditional bread and also the popularity of baking this kind of bread in Iran, if it is possible to enhance the traditional oven conditions to decrease the loss of natural gas instead of industrializing the bread baking, the energy consumption in the country can be optimized. Dynamical modelling for neural systems with direct and indirect connections is to understand how these connections contribute to neural dynamics. Despite recent findings suggesting the existence of indirect connections in neural systems, their dynamical characteristics remain poorly understood. In this paper, we propose a simplified circuit model with indirect interactions inspired by the indirect connection between two neurons, from an energy perspective. Through bifurcation and dynamics analysis, we find that the presented model has a striking resemblance with the classical Hodgkin-Huxley neuronal model. Moreover, stability in a neural network coupled with energy is demonstrated by combining stability analysis and numerical simulation. This paper proposes a new continuous-time first best contract framework that has the ability to explicitly limit the agent's risks. This limitation of risk is achieved by formulating the contract design problem as a mean-variance constrained stochastic optimal control problem. To obtain a globally optimal contract even when system dynamics are nonlinear, we develop a dynamic programming-based solution approach. The major theoretical challenge arises from the variance inequality constraint. To overcome this difficulty, we track and limit the agent's risk using a new stochastic system, whose state value can be interpreted as the agent's remaining budget for risks. We also propose an approximately decoupled contract design approach for multiple agents to resolve the scalability issue inherent in dynamic programming. The procedures in this contract design for multiple agents can be completely parallelized. We show that this approximate contract satisfies each agent's individual rationality condition and has a provable suboptimality bound. The performance and usefulness of the proposed contract method and its application to demand response are demonstrated using data on the electric energy consumption of customers in Austin, Texas, and the locational marginal price data from the Electricity Reliability Council of Texas. Consider a mobile sensor network that is used to monitor a moving target in a field with obstacles. In this paper, an efficient relocation technique that simultaneously maximizes the network lifetime is proposed. The main sources of energy consumption in the network are sensing, communication, and movement of the sensors. To account for this energy consumption, a graph is constructed with edges that are weighted based on the remaining energy of each sensor. This graph is subsequently employed to address the lifetime maximization problem by solving a sequence of shortest path problems. The proposed technique determines a near-optimal relocation strategy for the sensors as well as an energy-efficient route to transfer information from the target to destination. This near-optimal solution is calculated in every time instant using the information obtained through the previous time step. It is shown that by choosing appropriate parameters, sensors' locations and the communication route from target to destination can be arbitrarily close to their corresponding optimal choices at each time instant.
