Abstract

The article discusses comments by psychiatrist E. Fuller Torrey in an article that appeared in the periodical "National Review" regarding the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Torrey, who claims that SAMHSA is undermining public health and wasting money, suggested the U.S. Congress abolish the SAMHSA. An overview of SAMHSA's response to Torrey's comments is presented.
