Abstract
The article discusses research on embryo implants, spearheaded by Douglas C.A. Bevis, 55, of the University of Leeds in England. It mentions that Bevis is finding the right patient to proceed with his research on embryo transplants. It stresses that the realization of the research was triggered by infertility of about 15% of all women in England because of defects in their fallopian tubes. However, Bevis states that he cannot guarantee yet the success of research because no one knows precisely what physiological mechanisms prepare the uterus to receive the conceptus and retain it.
The article focuses on issues related to the demands of patients for a health check every year, which has a possibility to be included in the White Paper in Great Britain. Peter Smith, a general practitioner (GP) in Surrey says he has no problem with giving patients evidence-based tests but questions where practices would find the resources to do it for everybody. Cornel Fleming, a GP in London says that the idea is one the government should forget.
