La neurofibromatose de type 1 (NF1) ou maladie de Von Recklinghausen est une maladie génétique. Plusieurs études démontrent que la NF1 serait protectrice du diabète sucré. Cette association est rarement rapportée dans la littérature. Nous rapportons donc un cas.

Le vieillissement accéléré en Afrique s’accompagne d’une augmentation de la prévalence de la maladie de Parkinson. L’objectif de cette étude était de décrire les caractéristiques des patients âgés atteints de la maladie de Parkinson au Sénégal.

This paper develops and evaluates a wearable sensor-based system for the estimation of three-dimensional thoracoabdominal displacements. Such estimation is useful for a number of respiratory diagnosis applications, including detection of paradoxical breathing, quantification of tidal volume, and determining efficiency of mechanical ventilation. The use of inertial sensors on the body to estimate respiratory displacements is challenging due to the tilting of the body that occurs with breathing, causing continuous changes in the gravity component at the same frequency as the breathing frequency. A method to estimate the front-to-back and side-to-side tilt angles is developed using a nonlinear observer. The global stability of the observer is analyzed using Lyapunov analysis. Example experimental results are presented using data from a supine subject at various breathing frequencies and tidal volumes. Displacement estimates are found to be typically within ±1 mm compared to a gold standard reference for most data sets.

ABSTRACTThis research aims to understand the level and determinants of people’s willingness to participate in a vaccine trial for COVID-19 in Senegal. We conducted a telephone survey among a marginal quota sample of 607 people over 18 years of age. Only 44.3% of the participants wanted to participate in a vaccine trial for COVID-19, with females intending to participate more than males (AOR = 1.82, 95% CI [1.22–2.72]). Participants who intended to be vaccinated against COVID-19 (AOR = 6.48, 95% CI [4.12–10.4]) and who thought that being infected with the coronavirus would have a significant impact on their health (AOR = 2.34, 95% CI [1.57, 3.51]) were more likely to agree to take part in the COVID-19 vaccine trial. Confidence in the vaccine, health personnel, and the government in the fight against the pandemic are key factors in participants’ willingness to participate in a vaccine trial in Senegal.

La COVID-19 est un problème majeur de santé publique. Au milieu de l'année 2020, en raison des défis posés au système de santé par l'augmentation des cas de COVID-19, le ministère de la Santé et de l'Action sociale du Sénégal a opté pour la gestion des contacts et la prise en charge des cas simples à domicile. L'objectif de l'étude était de déterminer l'acceptabilité de la prise en charge des contacts et du traitement des cas simples de COVID-19 à domicile et ses facteurs associés au Sénégal.

The problem of testing for the correct specification of semiparametric models with time series data is considered. Two general classes of M test statistics that are based on the generalized empirical likelihood method are proposed. A test for omitted covariates in a semiparametric time series regression model is then used to showcase the results. Monte Carlo experiments show that the tests have reasonable size and power properties in finite samples. An application to the demand of electricity in Ontario (Canada) illustrates their usefulness in practice.

Les tumeurs neuroendocrines (TNE) pancréatiques sont définies par un phénotype commun en immuno-histochimie. Elles représentent 5 % des TNE et moins de 5 % des tumeurs du pancréas. À travers cette étude, on s’était fixé comme objectif de montrer l’apport de la scintigraphie aux récepteurs de la somatostatine dans la prise en charge des tumeurs neuroendocrines pancréatiques.

Le syndrome d’apnées obstructives du sommeil (SAOS) est fréquent, méconnu et sous-diagnostiqué. Différents questionnaires sont utilisés pour évaluer le risque de survenue, la confirmation diagnostique repose sur la polygraphie et/ou polysomnographie. L’objectif de cette étude transversale descriptive et analytique était d’identifier des facteurs de risque associés au SAOS.

L’imagerie par tomographie d’émission de positons (TEP) connaît un essor major dans la prise en charge globale en oncologie. Cette technique est irradiante et il est nécessaire de mettre en œuvre les moyens de radioprotection adéquats. Notre travail a pour but d’étudier l’organisation de la radioprotection dans une unité TEP par la détermination des moyens mis en œuvre, l’étude du plan de zonage du service, le traçage du circuit du traceur radioactif de sa réception à son injection au patient et les contraintes liées à l’implantation d’une nouvelle unité TEP dans un centre d’oncologie.

The pharmacokinetics and mammary excretion of eprinomectin were determined in zebu Gobra following topical administration of 0.5 mg kg−1. The kinetics of plasma and milk was analysed using a one-compartment model. The maximum plasma concentration of 8.83±2.15 ng ml−1occurred 1.30 days post-administration. The area under the plasma concentration–time curve was 30.63±5.56 ng day−1ml−1and the mean residence time was 3.38±0.60 days. Eprinomectin was detected in milk at the first sampling time and thereafter for at least 8 days. The systemic availability of eprinomectin was significantly lower than that for other breeds of cattle. Comparison of the milk and plasma data demonstrated the parallel disposition of the drug in the milk and plasma with a milk/plasma ratio of 0.094. Although it is generally believed that pregnancy exposes women to a wide variety of excess health risks that go beyond the direct obstetric complications of pregnancy, the epidemiological evidence in support of such excess indirect risks is inconclusive. In this article we attempt to document the contribution of indirect causes of death to maternal mortality in rural Senegal by using an epidemiological approach whereby the time spent during pregnancy and postpartum is considered a transient period of exposure to the health hazards of childbearing.

The discovery is reported of emission features in the X-ray spectrum of GRO J1655-40 obtained using Rossi-XTE on 1997, Feb 26. The features have been fitted firstly by two Gaussian lines, which in four spectra have average energies of 5.85 ± 0.08 keV and 7.32 ± 0.13 keV, strongly suggestive that these are the red and blue shifted wings of an iron disc line from material with velocity ∼0.33 c. The blue wing is apparently less bright than expected for a disc line subject to Doppler boosting, however, known absorption in the spectrum of GRO J1655-40 at energies between ∼7 and 8 keV can reduce the apparent brightness of the blue wing. The spectra have also been fitted well using the full relativistic disc line model of Laor, plus an absorption line. This gives a restframe energy between 6.4 and 6.8 keV indicating that the line is from highly ionized iron K α . The Laor model also shows that the line originates at radii extending from ∼10 Schwarzschild radii ( r S ) outwards. The line is direct evidence for the black hole nature of the compact object. The continuum is well described by dominant disc blackbody emission plus Comptonized emission. During dipping, spectral evolution is well modelled by allowing progressive covering of the disc blackbody and simple absorption of the Comptonized emission showing that the thermal emission is more extended. Acceptable fits are only obtained by including the disc line in the covering term, indicating that it originates in the same inner disc region as the thermal continuum. Dip ingress times and durations are used to provide the radius of the disc blackbody emitter as 170-370 r S , and the radius of the absorber.

Unlike the previous scientific works on the vertical axis turbines which were mostly limited to design improvements, performance metrics and flow dynamics but significantly ignored the effect of operational uncertainties on the power output, this paper presents how the performance of a low-speed vertical axis hydrokinetic turbine can be attributed to the inherent uncertainties in the operating conditions. While a complete set of uncertainty sources in the design, development and operation of a water turbine is pictured with real and hypothetical relationships, this study focuses mainly on two uncertainties. Starting from the methodological illustration of a towing tank experiment, the sources of uncertainty are defined as ±0.7% in free-stream velocity V0and ±1.06% in the turbine’s rotational velocity Ω. The stochastic space is constructed on a two-dimensional Clenshaw-Curtis grid and finite-volume-based deterministic computations are performed at each grid node. The sensitivity of the turbine’s performance to these input uncertainties is quantified using probability methods, including response surface, PDF and CDF. Flow-related non-linearities such as vortex release and blade-vortex interaction are directly reported in stochastic space and corresponding variations in the force coefficients of the turbine’s blade are identified. It is observed that the uncertainty in the turbine’s rotation is more influential on the power output compared to free-stream velocity.

The chemical behavior of the carbonyl group of 5-mono and 5,7-disubstituted 6-oxo-1,3-diazaadamantanes was studied. The structures of the functional derivatives obtained were confirmed by IR and 1H and 13C NMR spectral data. The behavior of the compounds under the influence of electron impact was studied, and the principal pathways of fragmentation of their molecules were ascertained.

The condensation of ketones with tetramethylenediethylenediamine led to the isolation of 3,6-diazahomoadamantan-9-one and its derivatives with substituents in the angular positions; their structure was confirmed by the data of the IR, PMR, and mass spectra.

Root cation exchange capacity (CEC) was analyzed for four cotton cultivars (Pima S-5, Stoneville 825, Deltapine 41 and Auburn 56) within tvo species (Gossypium barbadense and G. hirsutum) grown in control (O Al) and Al (1.5 mg/l) solution. Pima S-5, a G. barbadense variety, had significantly (P < 0.10) lower root CEC than G. hirsutum cultivars in control (O Al) solution. Root CEC of Stoneville 825 was numerically but not significantly lower than Auburn 56 and Deltapine Al in control solution. Root CEC was significantly reduced in all cultivars when grown in Al solution. Compared to controls, Pima S-5 and Stoneville 825 had either numerically or significantly less reduction in root CEC than Auburn 56 or Deltapine 41 in Al solution. Aluminum content of roots after CEC analysis was numerically greater in the former cultivars than the latter.The lower root CEC of Pima S-5 and Stoneville 825 in non-toxic conditions could provide an initially greater Al tolerance when roots grow into marginally Al toxic soil. Under sustained, Al toxic conditions, root CEC becomes altered and is more of an indirect indicator of root growth as affected by as yet undetermined Al tolerance mechanism(s).The steady-state technique to determine root CEC virtually eliminated the inherent problems of CO. effects on pH and titrating to an end point in a specific period of time in a dynamic system.

This article presents calculations of surface water balance for the African continent using a revised version of the Lettau climatonomy. Calculations are based on approximately 1400 rainfall stations, with records generally covering 60 yr or longer. Continental maps of evapotranspiration, runoff, and soil moisture are derived for January, July, and the annual mean. The model is also used to provide a gross estimate of the interannual variability of these parameters over most of the continent and local water balance calculations for a variety of locations in Africa. The results are compared with four other comprehensive global water balance studies. The results of this study are being used to produce a 1° × 1° gridded dataset for the continent, with potential applications for numerical modeling studies.

AbstractThis paper evaluates the rainfall conditions of 1994 in the West African Sahel. This analysis confirms that the year was relatively wet in the Sahel. The strongest positive anomalies occurred in the central Sahel and during the months of August, September, and October. Conditions in the western Sahel were, as a whole, relatively dry. This year was the wettest for the region as a whole since 1969. Nevertheless, rainfall barely exceeded the long-term mean and was still slightly subnormal in the southern Sahel (i.e., the Soudan zone).

The corresponding 5-mono- and 5,7-disubstituted 6-oxo-1,3-diazaadamantanes were obtained with high yields by the condensation of mono- and a,a'-disubstituted acetones with hexamethylenetetramine in the presence of glacial acetic acid, and their structures were confirmed by IR and PMR spectra. The behavior of the compounds under electron impact was studied, and the main fragmentation paths of their molecules were determined.

Immunohistochemical techniques were used to determine the distribution of cholecystokinin-8 (CCK8) immunoreactivity in the brain of the chameleon. In the telencephalon, CCK8-immunopositive somata were sparse and observed principally in the olfactory tubercle at the ventromedial edge of the rostral telencephalon and in the medial septum. Immunopositive fibers were observed mainly in the medial septal region and the ventral telencephalon. In the diencephalon, numerous CCK8-reactive fibers were densely concentrated in the periventricular region, the dorsolateral hypothalamus and the external zone of the median eminence. In the thalamus, labelled fibers were restricted to the peri-rotundal nuclei and the lateral part of the habenula. Immunoreactive cell bodies were observed in the medial part of the dorsal lateral geniculate nucleus, in the periventricular, ventral and lateral regions of the hypothalamus. In the mesencephalon, the densest accumulations of immunopositive fibers were observed in the area pretectalis, the periventricular gray matter, the medial tegmentum and the isthmus. Labelled neurons were observed in the deep, and occasionally intermediate, tectal layers and in the laminar nucleus of the torus semicircularis. In the rhombencephalon, labelled fibers were observed at the highest density in the central gray matter and the locus coeruleus; labelled somata were observed only in the nucleus of the tractus solitarius.

In graphite intercalation compounds of Re 2 O 7 ('stage 3' compound) Re is arranged in slightly distorted ReO 4 tetrahedra. The in-plane lattice of the intercalated phase was investigated by X-ray diffraction (monochromatic Laue technique). Stacking disorder and domain twinning produce very complex diffraction patterns. The intercalate changes its in-plane structure within 200 days from a liquid to a distorted crystalline and lastly to a solid 2d-crystalline phase with lattice constants a = 764 pm, b = 652 pm, and γ = 100°. Diffuse diffraction phenomena are interpreted by a one-dimensional order model.

The synthesis of mesostructured or even mesoporous metal oxides requires a certain interaction between the inorganic precursor and the organic structure-directing supramolecular template. In order to adapt the reactivity of a titanium alkoxide precursor for the synthesis of mesostructured TiO 2 , three different bidentate ligands -- 1,3-propanediol, 1,5-pentanediol and 2,4-pentanedione -- were used. Due to their stabilizing properties, different mesostructured titania phases with structure periodicities in the order of 31.5 to 34 A˚ could be synthesized. The resulting organic-inorganic composite structure did not show a sufficiently high degree of condensation between the TiO 6 octahedra. X-ray absorption spectroscopic (XAS) studies revealed slightly larger bond lengths compared to the corresponding condensed phase anatase. All ways to remove the template lead to more condensed phases.
