1.One of the main products of the radiolysis ofa-methyl-D-glucoside has been shown to be methyl-6-aldoglucopyranoside.2.A mechanism involving the participation of the OH radical is proposed for the radiolytic formation of this compound.

A description is given of an improved variant of the synthesis of methyl 4,6-O-benzylidene-2-deoxy-2-(ethoxycarbonylmethyl)-a-D-altroside and of its transformation into methyl 4,6-O-benzylidene-2-deoxy-2-[(methoxycarbonylamino)methyl]-a-D-altroside and methyl 4,6-O-benzylidene-2-deoxy-2-(2-hydroxyethyl)-a-D-altroside, which are branched sugars of a new type.
