This article presents brief reports on new and notable management research from academia and business as of May 01, 1999. Josh Lerner and Paul Gompers, associate professors at Harvard Business School, found that corporate venture investments actually outperform those made by independent venture capitalists. Antonio Fatás, an associate professor at the European Institute for Business Administration, compared long term trends in regional labor markets in the United States and Europe to how those markets reacted to short-term economic shock. Fatás also argues that Europe's economic integration will not make European workers more mobile. Youngme Moon, assistant professor at Harvard Business School, researched the way people interact with computers and the implications for Internet Web site designers and found that people treat interactions with computers as social encounters. Professors Cynthia Huffman, of the University of Delaware, and Barbara E. Kahn, of the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School, explored customer behavior when faced with complicated choices. Their study, published in the "Marketing Science Institute," found that the presentation of product information has a large impact on customer satisfaction in terms of their shopping experience and their readiness to make a purchase.
