The article focuses on verbal interchanges as examples of arguments facilitated in classroom by a second garde teacher. The teacher appreciated the accomplishments of her 2nd-grade students engaging in conversational argument by citing their ability. School districts across the U.S. are asking teachers for professional development to meet expectations.

The article focuses on the successful professional learning experience through articulation and application. Several experiences have helped all teachers to deepen their understanding about argument writing. Some complementary activities supported teachers' learning that include about trying the argument writing and reflecting on their own argument process, looking at examples of argument writing, analyzing types of everyday arguments and using an argument protocol to have debates.

The article describes how a pedagogy group of new faculty members was formed, what they have done together and what they gained from the experience. The group made up of full-time assistant professors from different fields such as psychology, education and economics started in September 2011 after deciding to get together and share their stories. The group used a process to successfully develop instructional effectiveness and promote continued self-reflection.
