It commonly occurs in the 1[sup.st] year of life and is predominantly seen in the axial skeleton and rarely in the retroperitoneum. Objective: Comparison between bovine-derived demineralized bone matrix (DMBM) and iliac crest graft over long term for secondary alveolar bone grafting (SABG) in patients with unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP) in terms of radiological and clinical outcomes.Design: Prospective, randomized, parallel groups, double-blind, controlled trial.Setting: Unit of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral Health Science Centre, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh.Participants: Twenty patients with UCLP.Interventions: Patients were allocated into group I (Iliac crest bone graft) and group II (DMBM) for SABG. Outcomes were assessed at 2 weeks, 6 months, and then after mean follow-up period of 63 months.Outcomes Measures: Volumetric analysis of the grafted bone in the alveolar cleft site was done through cone beam computed tomography using Cavalieri principle and modified assessment tool. Clinical assessment was performed in terms of pain, swelling, duration of hospital stay, cost of surgery, alar base symmetry, and donor site morbidity associated with iliac crest harvesting.Results: Volumetric analysis through Cavalieri principle revealed comparable bone uptake at follow-up of 6 months between group I (70%) and group II (69%). Modified assessment tool showed no significant difference between horizontal and vertical bone scores over short- and long-term follow-up. In group II, there was higher cost of surgery, but no donor site morbidity unlike group I.Conclusions: Demineralized bone matrix proved analogous to iliac crest bone graft as per volumetric analysis over shorter period. However, although statistically insignificant, net bone volume achieved was lower than the iliac crest graft at longer follow-up.

Dendritic cells (DC) are key regulators of immune response with the ability to affect both the innate and adaptive immune responses and are abundant in the gut mucosa. The severity of shigellosis varies with the serotype involved with S. dysenteriaeproducing the severest infections with complications and S. sonneibeing at the other end of spectrum usually causing mild self-limiting diarrhea. While Shigellaare known to induce the apoptosis of mature DCs, there is no information on cytokine milieu of DCs incubated with different serotypes of Shigella.

Conversational artificial intelligence involves the ability of computers, voice-enabled devices to interact intelligently with the user through voice. This can be leveraged in heart failure care delivery, benefiting the patients, providers, and payers, by providing timely access to care, filling the gaps in care, optimizing management, improving quality of care, and reducing cost. Introduction of machine learning to phonocardiography has potential to achieve outstanding diagnostic and prognostic performances in heart failure patients. There is ongoing research to use voice as a biomarker in heart failure patients. If successful, this may facilitate the screening, diagnosis, and clinical assessment of heart failure.

Knowledge about multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) is still evolving, and evidence-based standardized diagnostic and management protocols are lacking. An analysis of the published evidence can help fill this gap. The aim is to evaluate the clinical and diagnostic features, management strategies, and outcomes of MIS-C and evaluate the variances between high-income countries and lower-middle-income countries (LMIC).

Leiomyoma of the urinary bladder in the pediatric age group is one of the rarest tumors with only 2 case reports in the English literature. Rhabdomyosarcoma is the commonest tumor at this site in this age group. It needs to be distinguished from rhabdomyosarcoma by histomorphology for appropriate treatment and management. We report the third case of urinary bladder leiomyoma arising in a 6-year-old boy with a short review of the literature.

Aqueous ZnS quantum dots (QDs) were synthesised via a facile, cost-effective one-pot synthesis method in the ambient environment. To achieve most favourable ratios of thioglycolic acid (TGA):zinc (Zn):sulphide (S), the concentration optimisation by optical spectra (COOS) method was adopted. The x-ray diffraction (XRD) spectra confirmed the zinc-blende (cubic) phase of ZnS quantum dots (QDs), and Scherrer’s method determined that on average, the QDs exhibit a size of 2 nm. The Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) study shows that characteristic peaks are consistent with the vibrational modes of the TGA ligands, confirming the capping. The quantum dots (QDs) synthesised displayed a significant effect of quantum confinement with blue shift in absorption peaks, compared with bulk ZnS absorption peak. Interestingly, on increasing the concentration of TGA, it resulted in red shift at the absorption edge, shifting from 300 nm to 314 nm. On the other hand, increasing the concentration of cation Zn and anion S ratio led to a blue shift, ranging from 315 to 295 nm, and a red shift, ranging from 280–320 nm, at absorption edges respectively. A prominent emission peak appeared at 428 nm. The application of Brus equation allowed estimating the size of the quantum dots (QDs) to be within the range of 2 to 2.7 nm, which correlated well with the Bohr’s radius of ZnS. This favourable property proposes the use of QDs in various optoelectronic devices.

Mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is a self-organising network consisting of a group of nodes connected to each other wirelessly. Due to the self sustaining nature of MANET, it has been used in various applications and provides good communication. However, because of certain features of MANET such as wireless medium, highly dynamic topology, limited resources, etc., the network is easily prone to various attacks which hamper the communication efficiency. The nodes are attacked mainly during the routing process and the data packets are dropped or its authenticity is compromised mostly during the data transmission process. Hence, it is critical to ensure that routing and data transmission process is performed in a secure manner to ensure security of the network. In this paper, we propose to develop a cross-layered-based adaptive secured routing and data transmission technique in MANET. Initially, the multipath routing is performed securely by encrypting every message transmission, to guarantee routing security. Then the highly secured data is transmitted through secure routes to ensure data security. Then the network is examined for intrusions. In this way, network is safeguarded from attacks and hence enhancing network operations.

AbstractA simple multielemental mixed micelle cloud point extraction procedure has been developed for the simultaneous separation and preconcentration of toxic trace analytes from natural and wastewater samples prior to their determination by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry. The analytes Cr, Be, Pb, Cd, Tl, and Hg were converted simultaneously, as hydrophilic anionic iodide species formed with KI in the presence of HCl. The method is based on the formation of extractable ion associates of anionic iodide species with solubilizing cationic and hydrophobic sites of mixed micelles. The mixed micelles are formed by cationic, Aliquat-336 (N-methyl-N,N,N-trioctylammonium chloride) and nonionic, Triton X-114. The ion associates formed are preconcentrated from bulk aqueous phase into a small mixed micelle-rich phase, avoiding the addition of an external chelating agent. The parameters affecting the process are evaluated and optimized. The recoveries of anaytes are in the range of 86–102% at 0.1–10 μg L−1. The accuracy of the procedure has been verified by using certified reference materials, such as National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) 1640a natural water, Community Bureau of Reference (BCR)-713 final effluent, and BCR-715 industrial effluent and being applied to industrial wastewater.

AbstractThe present work describes a solid phase extraction method for the determination of trace amounts of Cu (I) by flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS). The proposed method is based on the complexation of Cu (I) with bathocuproine immobilized on naphthalene by column method. The parameters such as: the ratio of bathocuproine to naphthalene, amount of sorbent, pH effect on the complexation of metal ions, desorption of metals ion from sorbent and sample flow rate were examined. The calibration graph was linear in the range of 100-1500 ng mL−1with the detection limit of 3.6 ng mL−1. An enrichment factor of 25-fold was obtained. The sorption and desorption of Cu (I) on adsorbent was monitored by FAAS.

Foreign body aspirations (FBA) in the tracheobronchial tree must be suspected in children who present with a witnessed history of choking or respiratory distress of sudden onset and asymmetric breath sounds, even in the absence of pathognomonic radiographic findings. This study reviews our experience with a variety of FBA and outlines the salient differences in the literature.

We examine the effects of mixing induced light heavy charged lepton neutral currents on the partial wave amplitude for the process l+l−→ZZ(withl = e,μor τ). By imposing the constraints that the amplitude should not exceed the perturbative unitarity limit at high energy (√s = Λ), we obtain bounds on light heavy charged lepton mixing parameter sin2(2θLa) where θLais the mixing angle of the ordinary charged lepton with its exotic partner. For Λ = 1 TeV, no bound is obtained on sin2(2θLa) formE< 0.69 TeV. However, sin2(2θLa) ≤ 1.52×10−5formE= 5 TeV, sin2(2θLa) ≤ 2.41 ×10−7formE= 10 TeV. Similarity for Λ = ∞ no bound is obtained on sin2(2θLa) for mE< 1.97 TeV and sin2(2θLa) ≤ 0.15 formE= 5 TeV and sin2(2θLa) ≤ 3.88×10-2formE= 10 TeV.

An ultrasonic probe extraction procedure is described for extraction of total tin in standard reference materials such as NIST SRMs 1548 total diet, 1566a oyster tissue, 2976 mussel tissue and IAEA 392 algae, and also powdered algae, onion and spinach samples. An end-capped Zr–Ir coated transverse heated tube is used for determination by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry, which not only enhances the sensitivity characteristic mass 20 ± 2 pg but also reduces the interference due to the high concentration of acids and other interfering species. The limit of detection is found to be 0.030 μg g−1. The precision expressed as relative standard deviation was in the range 2–4 within a batch and 5–10 between batches.

Molecular epidemiology methods are very useful for differentiating between strains, assessing their diversity, and measuring the prevalence of the most circulating strain in an area. Various molecular typing methods using different molecular markers have been utilized worldwide, such as restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP), spoligotyping, Mycobacterial Interspersed Repetitive Unit – Variable Number of Tandem Repeat (MIRU-VNTR), and Double repetitive element-PCR (DRE-PCR) typing, for simultaneous detection and epidemiologic typing of Mycobacterium tuberculosis.The present study is conducted to assess the genetic diversity of M. tuberculosisby IS6110-RFLP and spoligotyping in patients attending a tertiary care hospital in eastern Uttar Pradesh, North India.

Neonatal adrenal hemorrhage may rarely present as acute scrotum, mimicking the conditions that require an immediate operative intervention. The authors report one such case and discuss the importance of clinical examination and ultrasonography to avoid an unnecessary surgical exploration.
