Objective MiR-139-5p is a common tumor-associated microRNA (miRNA), which inhibits the occurrence and development of malignant tumors from various tissue sources. We detected miR-139-5p expression levels in tissues from patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) to explore the relationship between miR-139-5p expression and clinicopathological parameters.Methods MiR-139-5p expression levels were detected in cancerous and normal tissues from 60 NSCLC patients by fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction, using normal paracancerous tissue as a control. The relationships between miR-139-5p and clinicopathological parameters of NSCLC, including survival, were analyzed by t-tests and univariate analysis.Results MiR-139-5p expression levels were significantly reduced in NSCLC tissues compared with normal adjacent tissue. MiR-139-5p expression was not significantly associated with age, sex, or smoking history, but was related to clinical stage, pathological type, tumor size, and lymph node metastasis. Furthermore, low expression of miR-139-5p, clinical stage (II/III), adenocarcinoma, tumor ≥3 cm, and lymph node metastasis were all related to overall survival.Conclusion MiR-139-5p expression levels are down-regulated in NSCLC tissues, and low expression is associated with clinical stage, pathological type, tumor size, and lymph node metastasis in NSCLC patients. MiR-139-5p may act as a tumor suppressor gene in the occurrence and development of NSCLC.

The Mirror Extending (ME) approach is proposed in this paper for solving the end extending issue in the Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) method. By this approach, the data extended into a closed circuit without end. The derivatives on ends are not necessary any more for Spline fingth. The approach eliminates the possible problems in reliability and uniqueness in the original extending approach of the EMD method. In the ME approach only one extending is necessary before the data analysis. A tipient criterion is proposed here for checking the extending approach. ME approach has been proved to satisy the theoretical criterion automatically and permanently. This approach makes the EMD method reliable and casy to follow.

Summary: Three patients with rupture of thoracic aortic aneurysm into the lung with formation of pseudoaneurysm were admitted to our hospital in 1991, of whom, 2 had ascending aortic aneurysms which ruptured into the right upper pulmonary lobe, and another one had descending aortic aneurysm rupuring into the left upper lobe. All 3 cases were misdiagnosed as having pulmonary carcinoma or mediastinal tumor by the other hospital as well as by us. Correct diagnosis was made by aortography or at exploratory thoracotomy. Our preliminary experiences in the diagnosis and treatment of the disease are presented in this paper.

Summary: A report on the results of surgical treatment of 5 cases of DCRV and its associated anomaly was presented in this paper. No definite diagnosis of DCRV was made prior to operation. It was found that 2 cases had DCRV as an isolated anomaly, another 2 had the disease associated with VSD, and the remaining 1 had DCRV with right ventricle to left artrium cannulation. Museular membrane septum type was found in 3 cases, and muscular bundle type 2.4 cases diagnosed as having DCRV or DCRV with other heart anomalies during operation were treated properly and discharged fully recovered. 1 case died of acute heart insufficiency. Pathologic anatomy and physiology, associated anomalies of DCRV, and some experience with the operative approach were discussed in this article.
