Abstract

Research presented concerns the length of the protective 'bout effect,' a physiological process by which new exercises induce damage to skeletal muscle, but the same exercises repeated later create significantly less muscle damage. Participants performed novel eccentric exercises and were placed into three groups of 6, 9, and 12 months, and the protective 'bout effect' was shown for the 6 month group, but not for the 9 and 12 month group.
