The luminescent sensory systems based on manganese-doped zinc sulfide quantum dots were developed for aqueous environment monitoring. The structural, optical and sensory characteristics of quantum dots were investigated. The mechanism of ZnS:Mn2+ interaction with methane in the aqueous media, as well as factors that have a primary influence on the formation of the sensory response in the reaction with methane, were determined.

Background: Many of the adverse effects of psychopharmacologic agents are dermatologic in nature, ranging from relatively benign rashes to severe, potentially lifethreatening conditions. For the pediatric population, many case reports describe cutaneous reactions, however large-scale studies in the pediatric population are nonexistent. Objective: To review common dermatologic reactions to psychopharmacologic agents in pediatric population. Method: Narrative review of current literature using PubMed database was conducted. Results: Adverse cutaneous reactions that have been reported for these drugs include exanthematous rash, urticaria, lichenoid drug eruption, livedo reticularis, vitiligo, drug-induced hypersensitivity syndrome, drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms syndrome, erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis. Conclusion: Many of the serious conditions are rare but likely under-diagnosed in the pediatric population, despite being particularly vulnerable to certain agents. Specific risk factors unique to the pediatric population, such as differential drug metabolism compared to adults, must be considered in the management of psychotropic medications. This should influence the pediatrician's judicious use of psychotropic agents to ensure maximal safety and efficacy for their patients.

Background: Common childhood neuropsychiatric disorders are treated with multiple categories of psycho-active agents. Adverse side effects of psychotropic pharmacotherapeutics range from expected neuro-psychiatric changes to allergic reactions and immunologic abnormalities. Objective: This review focuses on the immune system effects of common categories of medications used to treat neuro-psychiatric and behavioral disorders. Method: Narrative review of literature using PubMed database up to May 10, 2017. Results: Multiple neuro- and psycho-tropic medication classes are found to influence the function of the immune system in various ways, both in the direction of immune suppression and immune stimulation. Conclusion: Immunologic activity of these medications in the frame-work of now wellestablished role of inflammation in neuro-psychiatric diseases should continue to be defined. At the same time, clinicians are advised to pay attention to potentially detrimental immune suppression that may be associated with some of these medications, and consider iatrogenic etiology in patients presenting with undue susceptibility to infection.

This work presents the test results of the enameled winding wires, characterizing an insulation mechanical strength. The standard and original test methods were used. It should be noted that the existing standard test methods do not estimate enamel insulation resistance to the mechanical loads authentically. Note that the estimation of wire mechanical resistance can be done by the determination of the number of defects in the enamel insulation. The results of tests for wires with various types of insulation are presented.

To review the role of chirality in current ocular pharmacology. The importance of stereo-isomeric purity has frequently been emphasized in recent years. Development of chirally pure medications can lead to improved efficacy and side-effect profiles. Practitioners prescribing ocular agents may benefit from understanding the effects of chirality in their evaluation of old and new medications.

Infective endocarditis (IE) results from bacterial or fungal infection and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Several known risk factors exist for endocarditis, and 90% of pediatric cases have an underlying structural or congenital heart disease or prosthetic heart valve. Literature on IE in previously healthy children is relatively sparse, and the pathogenesis and underlying risk factors remain mostly unknown. Our patient was a 3-year-old male with a unique presentation of IE. His lack of structural and congenital risk factors for endocarditis prompted further workup, and labs were consistent with insufficient immunoglobulin, suggesting a primary immunodeficiency (PAD). PAD presents as heightened susceptibility to infections, commonly seen as recurrent pneumonia, meningitis, septic arthritis, and otitis media. Pediatric patients commonly have infections, yet as many as in 1 in 2000 patients have PAD. Our case emphasizes the potential need for further investigation into PAD in a young patient with no known risk factors who develops an uncommon infection such as IE.
