In this paper, we study the family of Arneodo–Coullet–Tresser maps$F(x,y,z)=(ax-b(y-z)$, $bx+a(y-z)$, $cx-dx^k+e z)$ where $a$, $b$, $c$, $d$, $e$are real parameters with $bd \neq 0$ and $k>1$ is an integer. Wefind regions of parameters near anti-integrable limits and nearsingularities for which there exist hyperbolic invariant setssuch that the restriction of $F$ to these sets is conjugate to thefull shift on two or three symbols.

Hybrid coatings based on organically modified silicate (Ormosil)/ZrO2 (0–1.0 wt %) and Ormosil/MO2 (M = Ti or Ce) were synthesized through a sol–gel technique. Tetraethylenepentamine, 3‐glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane, tetraethoxysilane, and MO2 (M = Zr, Ti, or Ce) metallic particle were used as precursors for the hybrid coatings. These hybrid films were deposited via spin coating onto an aluminum alloy to improve the corrosion protection. The effects induced by the ZrO2 content and the metallic particle type on the chain dynamics, thermal stability, and corrosion performance of the coated samples were investigated. The rotating‐frame spin–lattice relaxation times and scale of the spin–diffusion path length indicated that the configuration of the hybrid films was highly crosslinked and dense and adhered to the aluminum alloy substrates. The thermal stability and the apparent activation energy, evaluated by van Krevelen's method, of the hybrid coatings depended on the ZrO2 content and on the metallic particle type. Potentiodynamic and salt‐spray analysis revealed that the hybrid films provided exceptional barrier and corrosion protection in comparison with untreated aluminum alloy substrates. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this paper, we consider a class of polynomial mappings on Rmor Cmwhich is defined by the assumption that the delay equations induced by the mappings have leading monomials in a single variable. We show that for any mapping from this class, the nonwandering set is bounded while for all unbounded orbits, some kind of monotonicity takes place. The class under consideration is proved to contain, in particular, the generalized Hénon mappings and the Arneodo–Coullet–Tresser mappings.

A plane-strain, linear elastic finite element model with temperature-dependent matrix properties was developed to analyze residual stresses in graphite/PEEK composites. The residual stress model takes into account the mismatch of the thermal expansion coefficients and the crystallization shrinkage of the matrix. Good agreement between the reported transverse normal stress data and the modeling result was observed in the analysis of a [040]TAPC-2 laminate processed at a 35°C/s surface cooling rate. Furthermore, [010/906]TAPC-2 laminates were manufactured at different cooling rates to verify the model. The induced residual thermal deformations were measured by a shadow moiré system. The model estimated the out-of-plane displacement of the non-symmetrical laminates accurately. The optimum processing cycles, which minimize the residual stresses and maximize the mechanical properties of composite materials, were found to be different for different lay-ups. Therefore, in order to minimize the residual stresses and to optimize the mechanical performance of the composite laminates, an appropriate processing cycle must be chosen for each specific lay-up.

A rapid high-performance liquid chromatographic method for the simultaneous quantitation of plasma clozapine and its principal metabolite, norclozapine, was developed using a Spherisorb C8 5-μm reverse-phase column and an acetonitrile/potassium phosphate buffer/triethylamine mobile phase. Clozapine and norclozapine were extracted from plasma on solid-phase reusable microcolumns. Absolute recovery of clozapine, norclozapine, and the internal standard, flurazepam, was quantitative. The mean intraassay coefficient of variation was better than 6% for clozapine and norclozapine at therapeutic concentrations. Based on a plasma sample volume of 200 μl, the limit of accurate quantitation of both clozapine and norclozapine was 25 μg/L (coefficients of variation = 11.4% and 8.4%, respectively). The method has been used over the past 2 years for single-dose pharmacokinetic studies and for monitoring patients receiving clozapine therapy.

The autofluff (auto shredder residue) is far more difficult to be treated effectively. At present, only landfilling of autofluff is practiced on a large scale, and its cost is rising rapidly and the acceptance of this method is decreasing. In the nearly future, incineration of autofluff would be an economically attractive alternative. The autofluff wastes contains at least 5 wt% of Cl. An important question is whether the destruction of these wastes leads to the formation of other hazardous matters. Of the main concern are the PAHs. In the steady-state operation of the autofluff incineration process, major constituents of PAHs were emitted via the stack. We found that the mass growth of PAHs involves a sticking rings collisions routes at 910-1050°C. Experimentally, addition of BghiP to particles does increase the size or amount of particles.

Bilateral adrenalectomy or hypophysectomy will induce objective remissions in some patients with metastatic breast cancer. It is the purpose of this report to detail our methods for managing patients subjected to these procedures. These methods are based on clinical experience and physiological studies of over 200 patients submitted to either adrenalectomy or hypophysectomy. We shall attempt to describe the general medical management for both procedures and to suggest specific methods for handling the problems peculiar to patients with metastatic disease.Huggins and Scott,1 in 1945, reported the initial experiences with bilateral adrenalectomy in four patients with advanced prostatic cancer. With the use of desoxycorticosterone and adrenal cortical extract they were unable to maintain life in their patients, although one patient survived almost four months. Subsequently, Green and co-workers2 successfully managed adrenalectomy in a diabetic patient with the use of large amounts of adrenal cortical extracts. With the availability

L. citrovorum#8081/A of Hutchinson's laboratory has been shown to be an appropriate microorganism for measurement of urinary CF activity under the experimental conditions described. A 3–5 fold increase of urinary CF activity was repeatedly observed in subjects receiving large doses of methotrexate (Amethopterin). The possible sources of this increased urinary CF activity were discussed.

This In this paper, the tetradecenylsuccinic anhydride was used to modify tourmaline to prepare a polymerizable organic tourmaline tetradecenylsuccinate, and then copolymerized with vinyl acetate to prepare tourmaline-containing functional copolymer. The structures and morphologies of modified tourmaline and copolymer were characterized by means of IR, SEM and EDX analyses. The experimental results showed that the tourmaline was embedded into copolymer by the process of surface modification and copolymerization and illustrated well dispersion stability in copolymer, and meanwhile the tourmaline-containing functional copolymer had benign far infrared radiation and negative ions releasing properties, and a good mechanical performance.

K2's Campaign 9 (K2C9) will conduct a ?3.7 deg2survey toward the Galactic bulge from 2016 April 22 through July 2 that will leverage the spatial separation between K2and the Earth to facilitate measurement of the microlens parallax for microlensing events. These will include several that are planetary in nature as well as many short-timescale microlensing events, which are potentially indicative of free-floating planets (FFPs). These satellite parallax measurements will in turn allow for the direct measurement of the masses of and distances to the lensing systems. In this article we provide an overview of the K2C9 space- and ground-based microlensing survey. Specifically, we detail the demographic questions that can be addressed by this program, including the frequency of FFPs and the Galactic distribution of exoplanets, the observational parameters of K2C9, and the array of resources dedicated to concurrent observations. Finally, we outline the avenues through which the larger community can become involved, and generally encourage participation in K2C9, which constitutes an important pathfinding mission and community exercise in anticipation of WFIRST.
