In this paper, a Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy control structure with model predictive current control-based distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM) is proposed to improve power quality in distribution system. This control technique is based on proposed instantaneous symmetrical component and active power (ISCAP) method for reference generation, T-S fuzzy control for quick stabilisation of DC-link voltage to achieve faster tracking of reference currents and model predictive control for switching signals generation without need of modulators. This combined effort enhances the compensation capability of the system as well as making the system cost effective. Through simulation and real-time experimentation it is found that proposed controller has improved performance in terms of harmonic elimination, power factor correction, quick stabilisation of DC-link voltage and reactive power compensation. Finally this controller is employed with real-time hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) based OPAL-RT 5600 system with RTDS hardware OP5142 which is incorporated with front end processor Xilinx spartan-3 XC3S5000.

This study provides a step-by-step analysis of closed-loop parametric system identification for DC-DC buck converter. In closed-loop parametric identification, input–output experimental data are used to estimate the transfer function coefficients of DC-DC buck converter. For system identification purpose, a high-frequency perturbation signal is injected in to the closed-loop system which acts as an input signal for identification experiment. Different input–output models such as Auto-Regressive eXogenous, Auto-Regressive Moving Average with eXogenous, output error, and Box–Jenkins are used to model the converter structure and prediction error method is used to estimate the parameters. Model validation schemes are used to validate the estimated model. Simulation and experimental analysis have been provided to validate the results obtained.

ABSTRACTTo utilize the power generated from renewable energy sources and use it in stand-alone or grid integrated application, power conditioning unit (PCU) is required. The main consideration in designing a PCU is lower cost, higher reliability, higher efficiency, and robust operation. One of the major components of PCU is high-step-up and high-efficient DC–DC converter. This paper provides a comprehensive topological review of different high-step-up DC–DC converter topologies. A wide variety of DC–DC conversion topologies (both transformerless and isolated) with wide voltage conversion ratio have been reviewed. To improve the converter efficiency, various soft-switching techniques are implemented. This paper intends to serve as one of the convenient reference for future researchers.

Dynamic logic style is used in high performance circuit design because of its fast speed and less transistors requirement as compared to CMOS logic style. But it is not widely accepted for all types of circuit implementations due to its less noise tolerance and charge sharing problems. A small noise at the input of the dynamic logic can change the desired output. Domino logic uses one static CMOS inverter at the output of dynamic node which is more noise immune and consuming very less power as compared to other proposed circuit. In this paper, an overview and classification of these techniques are first presented and then compared according to their performance.

This paper presents an integral Sliding Mode Controller (SMC) of a DC-DC boost converter integrated with a photovoltaic (PV) system for maximum power extraction. In view of improving the steady-state performance of the maximum power point tracking (MPPT), an integral of the error term is included in the sliding surface. The output of PV panels is connected to a DC-DC boost converter to regulate and enhance the voltage up to a desired level. By using SMC with integral term, the steady-state condition is obtained at less than 0.1 sec. With the proposed ISMC MPPT the maximum power extracted is more than 10% than the traditional Perturb & Observe (P&O) MPPT at standard test conditions (STC). The results obtained using the SMC are compared with that of the fixed step size P&O MPPT controller. The performances of the proposed sliding mode controller and the P&O controller are validated through experimentations using a Real-Time Digital Simulator (RTDS)-Opal RT.
