- Abstract
Until recently, the optical fiber used in core network complies with ITU-T G.652.D, centered on 9.2 um Mode Field Diameter (MFD). The use of noval optical fiber which is compatible to legacy network in intelligently bonded ribbon technology has improved the cable design in terms of cable diameter, splicing loss, manufacturability and cost. This paper discuss the design of 144F Celesta cable with intelligently bonded ribbons and ITU-T G.657 complying fiber with MFD centered on 9.1 urn. By using legacy compatible optical fiber in intelligently bonded ribbon technology, the newly designed cables are light weight, smaller, compact, more flexible, and easy to produce and install as compared to the conventional flat ribbon cables.
