MUSICAL performance - Abstract
The article reports on a performance by the Boston Symphony Orchestra under its conductor, Serge Kossevitzky, which took place in November 1924, and compares it to a previous performance under Dr. Karl Muck. It states that when Muck performed Emmanuel Chabrier's rhapsody a number of year's prior, the audience so loved it, they wanted him to play it again. He refused, however, bowing to tradition. When Kossevitzky performed Rimsky-Korsakov's "Scherzo of the Bee," however, and the audience wanted a repeat, he did, with no opprobrium resulting.
